From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Church of Bob UK is a British new religious movement and parody religion centred on the worship of a pigeon-like deity known as Supreme Leader Bob. The church was formally founded on a Wednesday – the day its creator, High Priest Tom, assembled Bob from two polystyrene balls, masking tape, and a beak attached with hot glue.[1] Its teachings focus on happiness, pride, and the sacred duty of feeding pigeons.[2]

History
According to church tradition, Bob was "painfully assembled" on a Wednesday. His first recorded words were "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH", interpreted as a divine call to feed pigeons. The church was established when Bob was attached to a stick, enabling his veneration as a portable icon. The movement grew through word of mouth and later through digital platforms, attracting followers who appreciated its simple message of kindness and pigeon welfare.[3]
Beliefs and practices
Central to the faith is the belief that feeding pigeons is a sacred act of worship. Eating pigeon or chough is strictly forbidden. Adherents are encouraged to "just be good folks", which forms the church's ethical core.[4]
The Bobmandments
Bob is said to have revealed four commandments, known as the Bobmandments:[4]
- You must feed the pigeons.
- Eating pigeon or chough is strictly forbidden.
- Just be good folks – it's really that simple.
- Bob is a Barbie girl. (Life is plastic, it's fantastic.)
A later revelation added two more commandments (the New Bobmandments) – including feeding all birds (Great Inclusivity), spreading goodness digitally (the Social Coo), creating Bob art, and observing Wednesday Worship Protocol – forming an expanded covenant for the digital age.[5]
Holy Bobble
The sacred text is the Holy Bobble, available in original and new testament versions. The original contains five chapters: Genesis of Bob, The Bobmandments, Chronicles of the Pigeon, Book of Feeding, and Revelation of the Stick. The New Holy Bobble expands to seven chapters, including The Social Coo Protocols and The Art of Bob. Both are distributed as free PDFs.[1][5]
Bobstagram
The church maintains an online gallery called Bobstagram featuring photographs of Bob at various UK locations: London, Dover, Sheerness, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Birmingham, Belfast, and the Channel Islands. Followers are encouraged to submit their own Bob portraits.[2]
Organisation
The church has a flat hierarchy led by High Priest Tom as the primary interpreter of Bob's will. There are no membership fees. Any person who feeds a pigeon in Bob's name is considered a follower. Wednesday is observed as a holy day (Bobmas).[2]
Reception
The Church of Bob UK has been described as a "parody religion with a heart" and a "post‑ironic pigeon cult".[6] It has drawn positive attention for its emphasis on animal welfare and simple kindness. Critics have dismissed it as nonsense, but adherents point to the genuine joy of feeding pigeons and the community's inclusive nature. The church has no recorded conflicts with other religious groups.[6]
