History
The 1984 "DMR" Information System Development Guides
The first publication of methods that are at the source of Macroscope were two "Information System Development Guides": Part 1 Managing the Project[3] and Part 2 Developing the System[4]. They were sold in book stores for CA$20.00 each. The same books were published in French in 1984. These two methods were known as the "DMR" methods.
The two methods were based on fundamentals or principles that established the general approach. The methods were described in terms of processes, techniques and deliverables. The main approach for system design was by integrating the French Merise[5] data and the American Gane and Sarson[6] process modelling methods.

The 1990 "DMR Productivity Plus" method
Also known as P+, the 5 guides making the DMR Productivity Plus method were published under licence by the Research and Development department of DMR Group Inc. in 1990. They were: Project Management Guide, System Development Guide[7], Prototyping Guide, System Owner's Guide and Sample Set of Phase Reports. The 5 guides were also all published in French and Dutch.
Over the addition of prototyping and system ownership, the System Development Guide tripled in size and had additionnal chapters on development workshops and adaptations for packages, evolutive prototyping, etc.
The 1993-95 "P+OnLine" method
In 1993, DMR Group Inc. developed a hypertext version of the P+ method guides under Microsoft Windows version 3.1 using the Help facility. (need reference)
In 1994, P+OnLine version 2.2, the first edition to indicate a version, was implemented
Contribution to SPEM Parts of Macroscope are used to depict the capabilities of SPEM 2.0.
Knowledge Organisation
Macroscope knowledge is divided into five domains, each of which provides specific methods to achieve its goal.[8] The domains are: ArchitectureLab for enterprise architecture, ManagementSuite for project management, ProductivityCentre for system development and maintenance, ResultStation for program and portfolio management and StrategyForum for enterprise strategy. StrategyForum
StrategyForum is the domain of Macroscope that addresses the issues of business strategy, strategic management and governance. This aims at assisting enterprises to confirm or develop business and IT strategy. The role of StrategyForum is to define the change at a high level and govern the destiny of the enterprise in an ever-changing environment. This domain covers all matters affecting the survival and growth of the enterprise.
Principles
StrategyForum is knowledge-based and its main focus is the fit of the organization with its environment. Fit is achieved by: Integrating multiple strategy/organization perspectives; Anticipating the strategic future instead of extrapolating it from the present; Integrating knowledge, that is, by linking strategic thinking and action when driving the organization toward strategic targets (steering); Committing resource or function strategies to the addition of business value; Profiling strategy-related processes tailored to the organization and its strategic issues.
