Introduction
Since November 2025, I have authored or improved articles within the topic of astronomy. These articles include:
- 2025 UC11 (principal author)
- VP8 Image Analyzer
- Local (astronomy)
- Reedy Creek Observatory
- Roche limit
Prior to working on these articles, I was not a new reader of Wikipedia, but like many readers who have followed Wikipedia from the beginning, I had made an extremely limited number of changes to existing articles over the years.
About my username
On February 6, 2026, I changed my username to Sir Wilfrid.
The username is a favorite character from a movie I first encountered in my teen years, Witness for the Prosecution. Sir Wilfrid Robarts, played by Charles Laughton, was the advocate for the defense, and the defenseless. I thoroughly enjoyed this courtroom drama, which first appeared as a 1953 stage play written by Agatha Christie. Sir Wilfrid was the advocate's advocate, fair-minded, principled, hard-working, brilliant, sympathetic and skilled. This fictional character is a star whom, as in Robert Frost's formulation, we can "stay our minds on and be staid," imitable if never quite wholly achievable.
I also have enjoyed the few times I have been privileged to advocate for keep in the cases of Wikipedia articles on the verge of extinction in AfD discussions. Sir Wilfrid didn't always win, but he always tried his hardest. That is why he was such a trusted advocate. If I am advocating for and improving an article on Wikipedia, one can be sure it's because I view it as an asset to the encyclopedia.
I suppose that makes me an "inclusionist." But be assured I may sometimes agree with my Wikipedia colleagues on certain deletions, even if I do not always make my voice heard in those discussions.
