HI :)
I just saw this edit of a really long write-up about a high school student, kinda like a resume with all their roles and achievements.https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mitchell_County_High_School&curid=23905586&diff=1307840488&oldid=1307750931
And I know I should revert this but I don't know under what. Like NOPV, WP:NOTRESUME, promotion or like all of the above. I'm probably over thinking this (I am) built I just wanted to ask.

- No. 67.246.146.194 (talk) 13:19, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
- Not OP, but I'll provide the context anyway: earlier in the summer, there were a couple of rounds of vandalism to Rocky & Bullwinkle (2014 film), falsely claiming that David Spade had voiced the lead character in it. You were involved in reverting one round, and this IP was involved in reverting another.
- So I don't know why 67 is bringing this up two months after the fact, to you (and me, even though I had nothing to do with it, and merely removed the page from a bunch of redlinked categories around the same time) instead of the actual vandal (who, in fact, has already been blocked) — and 67's also cruising for a temporary editblock of their own if they don't stop harassing people who had nothing to do with it — but that's the missing context. Hello,
I saw someone added an unsourced addition to this guy's page that you reverted. It was then re-added which I reverted. Do you have the power to lock the page or otherwise prevent the back and forth without citation?
Thank you. Manamanadodododo (talk) 01:10, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
- Also note - when they redid it, they re-added a link that already existed and makes no reference to their claim. Manamanadodododo (talk) 01:12, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks for the message. We have the technical ability to lock a page if it's going through a lot of vandalism, but the rate of changes to Michael E. Farbiarz doesn't justify it, based on Wikipedia's guidelines. Your best bet is probably to add his article to your watchlist so you can see when it's edited. Joyous! - Ok. I'm not on wiki much and randomly decided to log in when I looked up the guy, saw the claim, and tried to figure out its veracity. But if I happen to return and see it changed again without a source, I'll repeat the undo.

Guide to temporary accounts
Hello, Joyous!. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
- When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:
~2025-12345-67(a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5). - All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
- A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
- As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
- There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
- There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
- Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
- Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.
Impact for administrators
- It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
- It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
- Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
- Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
- Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.
~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR
, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67) - See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.
Useful tools for patrollers
- It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options →
Enable the user info card
- This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
- Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
- Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
- The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Blocking the /64
Hi Joyous! Have you read WP:/64? I definitely recommend following that advice. Twinkle has an option to do that by default for IPv6 too. (I just blocked 2409:40d0:ed:2637::/64 since that user had already been bouncing around different addresses within the /64 range. You had blocked a single address on that range while I was looking at it.) Regards. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 04:49, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hey Daniel. Weird, bec/ I generally DO block the /64, and it's my default on Twinkle. Let me dig around to see what happened....[moments later] Aha! They had multiple partial blocks, and Twinkle wouldn't do it, so I had to block by hand and didn't tick the right boxes because I don't normally do it that way. Thanks for catching that, so I'll be more careful in future when I have to [ugh] do the block the hard way. Joyous! Noise! 14:05, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
- Cool, no worries. You might find RangeHelper a little bit helpful for that since (among other features) it adds several quick navigation links including /64 links for IPv6 addresses. That being said, based on the administrative work you do, the script I'd really suggest you try is Unfiltered (it overlaps some with User:Ingenuity/AbuseFilterContribs which you use, but see the note at the top of that page). Daniel Quinlan (talk) 17:49, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
I see you deleted an important early life fact, please explain
I cited in Morgan Jay's page "His father, Cayetano Venticinque, was a Sicilian singer who performed under the stage name Ricardo Roda. Venticinque moved with his family to Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1948, later leaving Argentina during the 1970s. He died of cancer in Italy, in 1993, when Morgan was six years old." This was under the Early Life section. I was wondering if you could please explain why you deleted this section? Jay talks about it on podcasts and I've done the research and cited it for his page. Blocking underlying IP
Issue with a newer editor
Hi Joyous, I'm having concerns about the potential competency (as much as I hate to say it) about User:Magician Abby. There was an ANI thread last September about their good-faith yet questionable edits to Pennywise. They said (or at least implied) on ANI and on their talk page that they would get a mentor, but the edits have continued with no mentor in sight at the Adopt-A-User. They first started editing in August, and have received warnings from me and from other users for things such as a personal attack, vandalism (which they even admitted), several WP:OR and WP:SYNTH issues, moving pages without prior consensus, and more.
I know they are clearly trying to help, but I think they need to have someone hold their hand, especially since going to ANI did not result in much. I'd love to see this user contribute constructively, especially since their main article of focus is one I brought to GA. Can you let me know what you think should happen next? Gommeh 📖 🎮 23:21, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- Wow. That's...a lot. She's clearly not getting what "original research" means. I've commented back to her at Talk:Pennywise. Maybe if we said something like "You should only add information that was written by another human who isn't Stephen King." I don't know if that would help. At some point, I think there's some willful misunderstanding, like not going through with the mentorship option. YOU have gone above and beyond with your patient replies. I'm impressed. Joyous!
