Recently I have been working on

• a project to eliminate certain types of bad references entirely from article space which i would like to turn into a collaboration very soon
  • we are at inbox 0 (approximately) on "Making sure you're not a bot", "Client challenge", and "Enable javascript to use search" & it should be viable to get rid of all HTTP status code errors too.
• fun with Lua and structured data. honestly if you'd told me we had Lua now I'd have come back years ago!
  • {{legislature diagram}} — a direct way of making legislature seating charts using a template
  • User:Morwen/succession/1 — a concept for making automatic succession boxes driven off lists.
  • User:Morwen/seat finder — I'd been updating lots of UK places for the 2024 electoral boundary changes and then I realised we already have the polygons for the constituencies on-wiki for display, and so it would be possible to write a template that you fed in coordinates and it gave back a seat. this is a proof of concept for that template.

Crikey, I've been here a long time. I came to the free-culture movement from the free software movement, in which I was active during the late 1990s and early 2000s. I joined Wikipedia in 2003. My first mainspace edit is reportedly the creation of Volkskammer, but I was surely editing as an IP before that. (Me and a friend had just got back from Berlin where we had hit the Ostalgie trail and gone to various museums, if you're wondering.) I became an admin later that year.

Back in the day, it was all green fields, and while the utility of the wiki model was evident, we were slightly appalled at the systemic bias of the encyclopedia as it existed; so I wrote and stubbed innumerable articles about national leaders and world geography, along with stuff closer to home (including two articles or maybe three about Prime Ministers.)

At some point I started making locator maps for subnational entities. These were really crude affairs and have since been largely replaced by better maps by people with actual graphic design skills, but it always amuses me when I see, either on this website, or another, a locator map with the exact shade of pink that I believe I picked out arbitrarily over 20 years ago now.

I started the article about the 7 July 2005 London bombings. The next day I was interviewed by The World about this and Wikipedia. They used a sentence of me, in which I inadvertently predicted twitter's use in grass-roots news gathering. Nobody has ever interviewed me about making the article about Danger Mouse.

Since I'm bragging, I believe I technically suggested the first ever WikiMeet for the English Wikipedia, and also claim to be responsible for assuming good faith, the use of templates to sidelink articles, image tagging, and possibly individual articles about episodes of television series. I would like to apologise for some of these.

Around 2007 I became less active, partly because of frustrations with the site but ultimately also because work got busy, and therefore have dropped in the high score table from #22 (in late 2006) to #1894 as of 2026. During some of this period I was involved in openstreetmap, mapping Leicester and central London.
