I took early retirement from the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Nottingham. Since then I've written a textbook for Springer, Differential Equations, Bifurcations and Chaos.
I aim to improve the quality and readability of Wikipedia mathematics pages. Too many of them are written in an unnecessarily complicated, jargon-filled language which makes them hard to understand. There are also numerous basic errors and inconsistencies that arise from multiple authorship.
Principles
- Keep it simple. Explain things as simply as possible with the minimum of technical language, using plain English wherever possible, especially at the top of the article.
- Keep it short and to the point. Don't confuse the issue by discussing related but different concepts.
- Include a simple example.
- A picture is often worth a thousand words in explaining a mathematical concept.
