The Mercurius Scoticus was the first Scottish newspaper, although it was largely a reprint of London editions.[1] It was launched in Leith in 1651, and closed the following year.[2] It was attributed to Francis Nelson.[3]

Number 2 was published on 30 September 1651 and number 39 on 31 October 1651.[3] It offered 'perfect particulars of every daies [sic] intelligence'.[3]
