WikiProject Crusades is a proposed upcoming revival and major expansion of the Crusades Task Force of WikiProject Middle Ages and WikiProject Military History. Our goal is to improve the coverage, quality, and scope of Wikipedia’s crusades-related articles with high-quality sources, well-written prose, and extensive information.

To improve articles, this WikiProject will employ a variety of strategies. We will have a list of “vital articles” of utmost importance to our project in particular; 150 articles of 3 levels of importance will be hand-picked by members of our project to prioritize (Levels 1 and 2 have been created [but are open to change], and level 3 is in the works!). You will also be able to place good or featured article nominations and DYK proposals in the studium, where individuals with extensive knowledge on the topic can quickly review each other’s work without the usual wait.

Additionally, editors will be able to nominate articles for members of the project to improve and suggest articles for creation and expansion. Users will also be able to ask members questions about the crusades in the tavern, a crusades task force version of the teahouse.

Inviting editors to join the project is easy with the invitation template to post on people’s user pages (see below!).

But why make a dedicated WikiProject for the crusades rather than a task force?

1. The crusades are a massive topic spanning well over 200 years of history in various countries, and it makes sense for the topic to have a dedicated group of people working on it rather than a mere task force.

2. The crusades already have a group of skilled and dedicated editors, so creating a WikiProject for them to collaborate, communicate, and work together would be a net good. It also guarantees that the WikiProject has people who would be interested in joining.

3. Many articles of utmost importance to the crusades are listed as mid or low importance to WikiProjects Middle Ages and military history, downplaying their significance to the topic and making it so that they are not prioritized.

4. English is not the first language to have a WikiProject devoted to the crusades; French Wikipedia has one too, proving that the idea has been executed before and certainly works.

The WikiProject will be rolling out steadily! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page!
