I'm an Irish-born guy who qualified as a mechanical engineer, then worked as a software engineer in a software company based in Cork developing expert systems; then in a software localization company based in Dublin, generally worrying about localization engineering and Brazilian Portuguese; then who setup, built and sold his own software localization company, also based in Dublin; then, finally, who helped setup, build and sell a company, also based in Dublin, which developed certification and transaction switching software for electronic payment networks. That last company was definitely the neatest and, amongst much else, the software determined whether or not chip cards, point-of-sale terminals and ATM's, together with the private issuer and acquirer systems they connect to, were individually, and collectively, behaving themselves.
Outside of engineering, my interests include my family and friends, organ music, classical and choral music, sailing, hiking, travel, cooking, pizza, comedy, beer, wine, history, scientific skepticism, cultural and biological evolution, the FSU and its curious satrapies. And much else besides.
