dotCloud is a San Francisco based outfit which specialises in a particular variety of PaaS, involving the use of AWS virtual machines, running their own idiosyncratic architecture. Established in 2008 by Solomon Hykes, it is funded by Benchmark Capital and Trinity Ventures.

The platform that is offered by the company is extremely flexible, and supports web services built under a number of different languages, such as Python, Ruby, PhP, and nodeJS.
A typical application is specified by the standard application code, as well as a "dotcloud.yml" file, that tells the dotcloud engine what services to attach. Various databases supported include MongoDB, MySQL, redis, and PostgreSQL.
