The staff of the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations is made up by diplomats, assistants, locally engaged staff, interns and reinforcement from Foreign Service in Stockholm, other HQ departments and from civil society.^[5] The mission is headed by the Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations med hjälp av the Deputy Permanent Representative.

Tasks

Representationens uppgift är att representera Sverige i FN och FN-organisationerna i New York, i den lokala EU-samordningen samt i kontakterna med andra FN-delegationer. Det dagliga arbetet består till mycket stor del av att bevaka de många mötena i till exempel generalförsamlingen och dess olika utskott.^[6]

Chancery

In 1948, the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations was located at 61 East 64th Street in the Lenox Hill neighborhood on the Upper East Side, co-located with the Consulate General of Sweden in New York City.^[7] From 1949 to 1954, it was situated at 63 East 64th Street.^[8][9]

Between 1955 and 1963, the mission was based at 8 East 69th Street, also in Lenox Hill on the Upper East Side.^[10][11] From 1964 to 1969, it occupied offices on the 16th floor of 757 Third Avenue in Midtown East.^[12][13]

Since 1970, the mission has shared a building with the Consulate General of Sweden in New York City, although they are located on different floors. That year, it moved to the 38th floor of 825 Third Avenue in Midtown East.^[14] In 1976, it relocated to the 39th floor, where it remained until 1989.^[15][16] In 1990, the mission moved to the 46th floor of One Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza at 885 Second Avenue, where it remains today.^[17]

Residence

50 Sutton Place South on the East Side of Manhattan.^[18][19]

For some time, the residence of den svenske generalkonsuln i New York City, at 600 Park Avenue and East 64th Street, var även residens åt the Swedish UN ambassador.^[20]
