The premiership of John Turner began on June 30, 1984, when the Cabinet headed by John Turner was sworn in by Governor General Jeanne Sauvé. Turner formed the 23rd Canadian Ministry and therefore became the 17th Prime Minister of Canada following the resignation of Pierre Trudeau. Shortly thereafter, he called the 1984 election, which he lost in a landslide. His premiership is the second shortest in Canadian history, at 79 days.
