Steve Foerster

Hi!

I'm a writer, technologist, and educator with an international focus who is primarily based in Northern Virginia and Hawaiian Beaches, Hawaii.

I'm a co-founder of Success Learning Center in Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria, which offers professional training in business and technology topics. I'm also the host of EdUp Global, a show with conversations and commentary about global postsecondary and higher education.

I've worked for colleges and universities in various staff and administrative capacities, usually involving distance learning, but I've also developed and taught online IT and business courses for Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University, among others. Many institutions where I've worked and taught have used Moodle as their learning management system, so I've done quite a bit of Moodle administration. As a fan of the free culture movement, I appreciate Moodle because I support the use of open source software and open educational resources (OERs).

I've also done professional training, first as a curriculum developer for MicroStrategy, a large business intelligence firm founded by Michael Saylor, whose other major project, the Saylor Academy, produces online courses and textbooks as OERs. Since then I've managed online sales and technology training for Cogent Communications, a global telecom.

My writing has appeared in University World News, and for several years I edited a blog called eLearners News for Education Dynamics.

On a personal note, I have four children all in their twenties, two bonus children who are 11 and 13, and a grandson who is still zero years old. (He's a newbie.) In my spare time I sing in my parish choir and have written a choral anthem or two.
