From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Use
{{Rabbit URL tracker}} is a maintenance template used to mark articles that contain one or more citation URLs with AI-related tracking parameters (for example, utm_source=chatgpt.com).
The template is intended to assist editors by drawing attention to such URLs for review. It does not make any judgement about the quality or reliability of the sources.
Scope
This template may be used when citation URLs include tracking parameters associated with AI or AI-assisted tools, including but not limited to:
utm_source=askpandi , utm_source=claude,utm_source=chatgpt.com, utm_source=copilot,utm_source=gemini, utm_source=grok,
utm_source=groq ,utm_source=jasper, utm_source=perplexity
Detection is based on URL parameters only and does not indicate how the cited source was created.
Meaning
The presence of this template indicates only that:
- One or more citation URLs contain AI-related tracking parameters
- The article may benefit from editor's review of those URLs
The template does not assert that article content was generated by AI, not assert that cited sources are unreliable and not require removal or modification of any citation or URL
Editorial guidance
Editors reviewing articles tagged with this template may choose to:
- leave the citation URLs unchanged
- remove only the tracking parameter, if appropriate
- take no action
Any changes should follow normal editorial judgement and Wikipedia policy.
Example:
https://example.com/article?utm_source=chatgpt.com
may optionally become:
https://example.com/article
Editors should not remove entire citations without an independent, policy-based reason.
Script support
This template is compatible with an optional user script known as Rabbit URL tracker. The script:
- Detects citation URLs containing AI-related tracking parameters
- Displays affected URLs in a collapsible list within the template
- Allows editors to add the template manually
- Does not perform automatic edits
Use of the script is optional. The template may also be added manually by placed {{Rabbit URL tracker}} on top of an article.
Removal
This template may be removed once the affected URLs have been reviewed and no further review is considered necessary.
For general guidance, see Help:Maintenance template removal.
