Pharaohs

Notes

  1. The Turin list groups all kings from Menes to Unas in a single unbroken line. The heading is damaged, but seems to read "House of Meni".
  2. The Turin list groups all kings from Teti to Neferirkare in a single group, although there is no heading. The Abydos list records 10 additional rulers not attested anywhere else, and they are thought to represent the rulers lost in the "lacuna" recorded during the sumation of Teti's dynasty.
  3. The Ninth and Tenth Dynasties were almost certainly the same. The division is likely based on a misreading of the Turin King List, which, in its original form, recorded the first 4 kings at the end of one column, and the subsequent 14 rulers in another. This line of 18 kings begins with a lost heading, likely marking them as rulers of Herakleopolis.
  4. Begining with Setut and ending with Merykare.
  5. The Turin King List included a heading for this line of kings, but it is lost. It probably noted their rule over Thebes. The first book of Manetho ends with this dynasty.
  6. The Turin list marks these rulers as "Kings of the Residence Itj-tawy".
  7. The heading for this line in the Turin list seems to be "Kings after the children of Sehotepibra", although the exact reading is uncertain. The Turin list records 51 names, which Ryholt rises to 57.
  8. These rulers are only known from the Turin list, which notably seems to include several personal names.
  9. The Hyksos dynasty is denoted as such in the Turin list.
  10. Theorized to be a short-lived local dynasty, as the Turin list records several names that can't belong to Dynasty XVII.
