Theology at Wikipedia
Lately, I regret making donations and contributions to Wikipedia. I experience it as a hostile environment. Particularly to religious people. And it seems this is what Wikipedia is trying to be.
I'm not sure why Wikipedia expects to be taken seriously on theological issues in Christianity when it excludes scholarlship outside a theological camp that rejects the core claims of that religion: the existence of a supernatural, personal, triune God who is active in his creation. Once you rule out all Christian theologians who believe these Christian tenets, your handling of topics related to Christianity cannot possibly represent Christian theology well. Nor can it be said to be the scholarly consensus in any meaningful way. It is, by policy, excluding the scholarship of those who hold the view. This is why one major mainstream publisher actually markets their materials based on helping Christian theologians avoid having to use Wikipedia as a resource.
For an example of what I mean, consider this. If this sort of open hostility to those who believe the tenets of their own faith is considered the gold standard of objectivity at Wikipedia, why should Christians view this as a credible source or indeed a safe community to take part in?
