Independent Catholic churches is a common name for Christian denominations (or congregations) which claim apostolic succession for their bishops, and to perform valid sacraments, but are not in communion with Roman Catholic Church, Oriental Orthodoxy or the [[Eastern Orthodoxy].

Usually, neither the Anglican Communion nor the Old Catholic Churches under the Archbishop of Utrecht; which also claim valid apostolic succession are included under this heading, although both confessions have an important part on the history of many independent churches. A number of denominations (schismatic local churches (like the Chinese Patriotic Church, or recent traditionalist splinters of mainstream churches reject the appelation "independent".
