@Adelaforge at naturalsecurityalliance: If you insert your references in the text in the body of your article using <ref></ref> tags, the reference will automatically show up at the bottom of the page with a link back to the text. For example:

Examples are very useful.<ref>[http://www.example.com/uses Uses of Examples]</ref>

Will show up as:

And the bottom of your page will look like:

My article on the English Spelling System was rejected on the grounds that there is already something about it in English Orthography, and that i should try to edit that one, but i find that piece so high-brow and academic that i can't even begin to think where to start. The title itself says it all. How many people know or use the word orthography? In the past i have tried putting a link to one of my blogs which explains the English spelling system in a way that ordinary people can unterstand, e.g. http://improvingenglishspelling.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/rules-and-exceptions-of-english-spelling.html, but it invariably got deleted.

This was probably because i have had a few books on spelling published, but since then i have put all my research findings on my blogs http://englishspellingproblems.blogspot.co.uk and http://improvingenglishspelling.blogspot.co.uk so that people can use them without having to pay a penny. I am horrified by the misinformation about English spelling on the internet which keeps stoking the never-ending reading wars, so I have spent the past 15 years trying to anlyse and describe English spelling as factually accurately as possible.

@Mashabell: If you type English spelling into Wikipedia you are automatically redirected to English Orthography, so finding the information isn't an issue. I guess the real problem is that if you're writing a wikipedia article based on books that you've written then it is considered original research, which is discouraged here. A good place to put it might be Wikibooks. Perhaps it could go somewhere in the English as an Additional Language wikibook (either on English as an Additional Language/General rules of spelling and capitalization or as a new page). I don't think people would object to a link from English Orthography to the Wikibook. --Ahecht (TALK

@Ghm141201: The basic issue is that your article appears to be written as a student paper or journal article, not a Wikipedia entry. Wikipedia doesn't allow editors to use Wikipedia to publish original research or to write a synthesis of published sources (as described at WP:SYNTH). Your article specifically has a "Methods and Resources" section, which strongly implies that it is original research, and a "Results and Conclusions" section, which implies synthesis. You also spend a lot of time describing what gout is and what a diet is (and the later being described with the general dictionary definition, not the aspects that relate to gout), which isn't needed in a Wikipedia article because those terms can be easily linked to if readers want more information. Unlike student papers, a Wikipedia article does assume that the reader does have some knowledge of the subject at hand and that if they don't, that they can click on the term to read about it. I know that in student papers it's typical to include this, but this shouldn't be in an encyclopedia article. --Ahecht (TALK

@Bexpinknfluffy: No problem, we were all beginners at one point. Articles that are biographies of living people require all statements to be supported by citations to reliable sources, and these citations must be linked to from the text of the article. For example, your article states that "John Roberts was born in 1937 in South Wales, he grew up in the valleys surrounding the mining town of Dowlais." but doesn't provide a reliable source for that information. I don't have access to the journal articles you cited, but it doesn't seem like they would contain the sort of biographical information you included in your article. To add that information you would use the <ref></ref> tags directly after the relevant statement. For example, if you got that information from Roberts's autobiography (I'm just making this up, I don't know if one exists), you would write in the body of your artile:

John Roberts was born in 1937 in South Wales, he grew up in the valleys surrounding the mining town of Dowlais.<ref>{{cite book|last=Roberts|first=John|Title=Autobiography|Publisher=Some Publisher|date=2002}}</ref>

And everything in between the <ref></ref> tags would be automatically replaced with a numbered superscript in the body of your article and automatically show up in the references section at the bottom. --Ahecht (TALK

Different people have different preferences, but I don't care either way. If there's specific content issues on your draft that you want to discuss, you can easily create a talk page for your draft by clicking on the red "Talk" link at the top of the draft. He is one of the oldest (at age 90) Gandhians in India, dedicated to rural development projects and political activism. He has not written any articles and has focused more on rural reconstruction work. Please suggest how such a highly respected (though not widely written about) person can be included in WikiPedia. Please give me suggestions on what changes I should make to my draft.

Thank you for reading the article on the International School of Business, Vietnam. I'm a little confused by the reasoning for rejecting the article; in your comments you wrote that "departments" of a university usually don't warrant their own Wikipedia article, and suggested folding the ISB article into that for the University of Economics, HCMC.

But ISB is not a department within UEH. Rather it's a separate university that simply has a partnership with UEH.

I realize there might have been some language in the original ISB article that could be misleading on this point, so I've removed those sentences.

Again, the International School of Business at UEH, HCMC is a unique university, and is not simply a department of the University of Economics.

It's an internal document and is designed to be an information document for the secretariat's archives. How do I reference it if it is not available to the general public?

@Caroline1978again: The point of references is to make sure that information on Wikipedia is verifiable (sources don't have to be available online, but they do have to be publicly accessible). If a reader cannot verify the information it should not included in a Wikipedia article. Afc Resubmission for Draft: Lao Veterans of America Institute

I was able to add additional references/citations regarding the national and international noteability of the subject organization, including references from the Hmong Times, McClatchy News Organization (which owns the Fresno and Sacramento Bee newspapers and many others), the US Congressional Record, Los Angeles Times, etc. Also new references/citations to organization from National Public Radio (NPR) and its President, Colonel Wangyee Vang.

These are national and international news media sources for the most part.

I do not have access to JSTOR but their are other references in the Los Angeles Times as well as Agence France Press (AFP) to the Lao Veterans of America Institute and its President Colonel Wangyee Vang of Fresno, California. So the organization is most noteable with significant U.S. and international news media attention.

I will try to continue to add more additional references from other newspapers and news media sources regarding the Lao Veterans of America Institute.

Although the image may have been wrong, why did you revert my other edits also? Especially the one to the punctuation in the first paragraph? You went ahead and did the same thing as my edit (corrected the period to the first reference) in your cleanup anyway. Why did you revert all of my edits, even the good one? Notable things usually have significant impact over a wide region, domain, or widespread societal group. Something reported only by the media within the immediate region may not necessarily be notable. Coverage nationally or internationally may make notability more likely, and things that have a demonstrable long-term impact on a significant region of the world or a significant widespread societal group are presumed to be notable enough for an article. --Ahecht (TALK

I've recently been working on a page entitled Silent Teaching. My intention was not to write this in the first person but rather to build awareness through Wikipedia as to the extent of the uses of Silent Teaching, as I found there are pages attributed to silent teaching from other sources. I made valid attempt to relate to these sources through the piece submitted.

Are there any options or suggestions you may have? The only 'published' platform for the silent teaching work is via the Times Education Supplement website and through work with National Autism Society, together with published mentions of the work online.

Is there a way I could construct the writing in a way that may be better received via Wikipedia, as the piece is written to provide an account and an incite into silent teaching and not for the purpose of self-promotion. A number of colleagues were involved in assisting the original draft so I am exploring options if any are available.

@SILENT TEACHING: Unfortunately, Wikipedia limits itself to subjects that have already received wide coverage from reliable sources. Per the policy at WP:NOTPROMOTION, Wikipedia shouldn't be used as a platform to build awareness, as its designed to only cover subjects that people are aware of. 1) People are aware of the subject of silent teaching and a number of these have downloaded silent teaching reports via the Times Education Supplement website 2)The account written mentions specifically work in the area of study via: See how this relates to earlier work [6] by Caleb Gattegno who said: "Teachers should concentrate on how students learn, not on how to teach" - Caleb's work is already noted via Wikipedia and thus the subject is widely known 3)The work in silent teaching has received media coverage via The South Shields Gazette and this is independent coverage and a great number of additional publications have commented on the subject of silent teaching, also reliable and independent

What would be your guidance in developing a Wikipedia page on-going, if any? Could I cite some of these additional sources who have commented independently on the subject of Silent Teaching?

SILENT TEACHING: Unfortunately, Wikipedia limits itself to subjects that have already received wide coverage from reliable sources. Per the policy at WP:NOTPROMOTION, Wikipedia shouldn't be used as a platform to build awareness, as its designed to only cover subjects that people are aware of.
