May music
Bach's cantata was performed 300 years ago, by occasion. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:35, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: very nice! Thanks. It's a long weekend here with a public holiday tomorrow, we did a little trip up to Lincoln — Amakuru (talk) 20:24, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! - Today's main page has again memories of three people who died, for two just the name and for the third an image (great!) coupled with a little bit from her life which seems too little for my taste. What do you think? - A friend of mine sang in Verdi's Requiem at Trinity Church, - you can watch the lifestream (Verdi about 30 minutes into it). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:47, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
- The hook for Barbara Frischmuth was improved. - Nothing new: another RD article is on his last day on WP:ITNN, a neglected composer to make it worse, and I'm travelling. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:28, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- Recommended reading today is the one: Christfried Schmidt, a story about patience. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:12, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

- RIP, and very nice pics thanks for your work on this, Gerda. — Amakuru (talk) 20:46, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- For a change, that was rather little work because the article was in good shape from the start. More work for the next two: May Abrahamse (pic with uncertain licensing), and Vakhtang Machavariani, nominated nominated, marked ready --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:41, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

- all Verdi today: tenor Luigi Alva and the premiere OTD of his Requiem, see my talk - remember that early in the thread there was a link to a performance? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:32, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: yes, lots of Verdi! I'm not that familiar with the Requiem, I'll have a listen to the performance. The 2010 one in Idstein sounds like it was nice too. — Amakuru (talk) 22:47, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

- reasons to look at Bach (and listen): it's a recent GA (not by me), he assumed the position of Thomaskantor OTD in 1723, he's up for PR, and several of his cantatas for GA, and his Easter Oratorio for FAC --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:54, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- another reason: the village organ he played, and we can still listen to its sound --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:35, 31 May 2025 (UTC)

- Hi Gerda Arendt sorry for being unresponsive here lately - I was away for the whole of last week on a visit to the Lake District in northern England with a youth group. It was quite rainy at times but we had some sunshine too and the scenery is always stunning there, as well as the outdoor activities - we had a day on the mountain as well as doing some caving, rock climbing and abseiling. I've uploaded a few pictures for your enjoyment:

Interface administrator changes
- Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
- An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
- An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in May 2025 to reduce the backlog of articles in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!

Articles for Creation backlog drive

Hello Amakuru:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in June!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 1 month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 June 2025 through 30 June 2025.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 3200 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the mailing list or alternatively to opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page.
DYK - Fire Walk with Me
Hi Amakuru - thanks for pinging me about the DYK for Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me going live on the main page. To be quite honest, I wasn't expecting it to be published today, given the points you raised at the talk page and the fact that these points remain unresolved. I hope I didn't commit any kind of faux pas by responding to your queries. As I explained to Daniel at the talk page, I would have acquiesced to ALT1 if you'd insisted.
I'm happy to continue the conversation at the talk page if you like. Since you originally raised the issue, I'll defer to your decision on whether to keep on discussing it. Namelessposter (talk) 01:47, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

DYK for 2023 EFL League One play-off final
On 26 May 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2023 EFL League One play-off final, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Sheffield Wednesday required a "miracle" to qualify for the 2023 EFL League One play-off final? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2023 EFL League One play-off final. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 2023 EFL League One play-off final), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
The World Destubathon
You are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. It's currently planned for June 16-July 13, partly due to me having hayfever during that period and not wanting to run it throughout July or August in the hotter summer and will be run then unless multiple editors object. There is currently $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. As 250 countries and entities is too much patrol, entries will be by user, but there is $500 going into prizes for editors covering the most countries. Sign up if interested! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:10, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
Request to revert move
Hello @Amakuru:, I saw that you can revert titles. Can you please revert undiscussed move from Saraikistan to South Punjab Province by blocked sockpuppet Vk8435820, who moved the article on 18 April 2023 without discussing anything. Saraikistan is far far more commonly used than "South Punjab", it's a humble request that can you please revert the title back to Saraikistan. FujaFula (talk) 23:09, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for your travel pics! - I have Easter Oratorio on the main page, but of course told the story, which is admittedly complex, on Easter Sunday for the music's 300th anniversary. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:58, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

ANI proposal submitted by "me"
Hey Amakuru, I just wanted to follow up on my ping of you at ANI. I made a comment there which someone else turned into a proposal, which I'm quite upset about. I'm far too involved to have ever considered making a proposal, and for that reason, I would not have done so. I promise if I were to make such a proposal regarding a long time editor it would be much more detailed with diffs and less focused on my personal feelings. I was attempting to add my personal perspective, one which obviously, in of itself, should not have been considered a formal proposal. I don't want my name behind a half-assed proposal... Nor am I the right person to be making such a proposal because of my involvement. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:15, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh: thanks for the message, and for your acknowledgement of your involved status with respect to Dicklyon. For my part I apologise if my tone was overly harsh against yourself. I think like everyone involved in that saga on whichever "side" of the debate, I'm just getting quite frustrated by the whole thing. From my point of view, I'm frustrated that this has blown up now for two reasons - firstly, while Dick has had his faults in the past, he seems to have made a genuine effort to mend his ways re civility. And secondly, in the vast majority of the cases, whatever you may say about the way he goes about it, the argument he's making is objectively the correct one. For better or for worse, MOS:CAPS and WP:NCCAPS are actually very objective and clear in how they tell us to go about this and much as you and others may disagree with those guidelines, I just don't think banning the person arguing for the extant guidelines is the way forward. Get the guidelines changed if they aren't fit for purpose, and if that fails then accept that the community as a whole views things through the same lens as Dicklyon. It's that simple IMHO. Anyway, as with most things we will get through this. Wishing you a pleasant Wednesday and happy editing. — Amakuru (talk) 16:43, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
- I don't expect everyone to check the edit history when the signature indicates a proposal was made by a person, I don't think your jump to the conclusion that I submitted the proposal was at all unreasonable. Regarding civility, I don't find he's been uncivil in any way in the last little bit that's actionable, beyond digs and aspersions, such as often implying I dislike him only because of the NFL Draft discussion, and discounting my take or criticisms because of that, when it goes far beyond that.
- Regarding MOS:CAPS and WP:NCCAPS, that's fine, I don't see a large chunk of what he does as inherintly against policy. In my post-RFC remarks (regarding the NFL Draft specific incident) I acknowledged that I think the outcome is wrong, but I appreciated The Wordsmith's close and interpretation of the guidelines that we have in place, and that the close adheres to those guidelines, but that the guidelines cannot possibly encompass and explain what is and isn't a proper name, and that I actually don't have the answer to that. That's one of the biggest problems in this regard and this area. How the hell do you determine what is and isn't a proper name? I can't formulate a guideline that's all encompassing in that regard, and that's been a frustration of mine and others.
- My issue often comes from the fact that, in some cases (which I very much wish I had started bookmarking when I came upon them), there have been past move discussions, sometimes in which he was the one who started them, which ended in no consensus, that he comes back to a year or two later and moves anyways. He does not believe in starting discussions when he's extremely confident he's correct, even in situations where I've explicitly stated I opposed a move of a page. It's also often felt like the system was being gamed in new venues being the points of discussion, and with the move discussions in which he wants to be downcased being added to a list of move discussions at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters#Capitalization discussions ongoing (keep at top of talk page), which I acknowledge isn't a violation in of itself, but it lends itself to a certain subset of folks who typically prefer to go a specific way. To add onto that, they're obsessed with tagging things as errors in capitalizations, in order to add them to a maintenance report so that they can bypass the redirects (often in violation of WP:NOPIPE, and which are clearly not errors but are alternative capitalizations), even going so far as to edit hundreds of past DYKs and ITNs entries that have already been processed from more than a decade ago. An example of this being a move discussion which closed as move (with minimal participation), in which they then tagged the redirects as miscapitalizations, but was later reopened and concluded as not moved (leaving the originally capitalized titles). I tagged those as micapitalizations in order to begin fixing and undoing the mass changes they made to various articles, but this was objected to and repeatedly reverted across a number of redirects that I tagged in order to find and fix links.
- Anyways, I'm not intending to make my case here and to you alone, that would be unfair and inappropriate. I have strong feelings on the individual, and despite what they may think, I'm not just upset about "losing" (as they often put it), but about a larger pattern of disrespect and behaviour towards the considerations and perspectives of other editors. With all of that said, I'm not ever meant to be a proposer of any punishment regarding the individual from my perspective because I've obviously been involved and taken that opportunity away from myself. I can, however, begin to start documenting and bookmarking these instances, if I can will myself to come back and continue in my areas of interest (NFL, featured lists, redirects, new pages patrol, etc). I just felt it important to clarify that, again, despite what they may say, I'm not upset about "losing" a discussion, that's what discussions are for, but because I have witnessed a number of editors driven off the site by what's been routinely done for so long. I can't say I'll carry out the fight, but I want to be clear... I recognize the policies we have in place (and view them as flawed, but I don't have solutions to them, so I must adhere to them for the time being), I did not make the proposal that had my name on it, and while I support the outcome of said proposal, I don't believe in making such proposals without proper details being linked and added. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:30, 11 June 2025 (UTC)

So Near, Yet So Far
Wikipedia is not about obeying a rule of grammar, but about how reliable sources capitalize this film, e.g. the Library of Congress entry, and the actual script for the film (fourth page, "Eagle title: So Near, Yet So Far"). Clarityfiend (talk) 09:06, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Clarityfiend: I don't doubt that there are sources which render the film title as all capitalised, but in general the WP:MOS stipulates that we should follow our house style even where a majority of sources do otherwise. In any case, both So Near, yet So Far and So Near and yet So Far have seen RMs on the talk pages and have been stable at those titles for many years, so it seems like an RM is required to change it now. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 11:30, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- I've started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters#So Near, Yet/yet So Far (film) and So Near and Yet/yet So Far (song). Clarityfiend (talk) 12:07, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
Draft redirects
Hi Amakuru. Please don't delete draft redirects like Draft:Tertiary Education Commission (New Zealand) and Draft:2025 French Open. Draft redirects are excluded from WP:G13 (abandoned drafts) because of a consensus that they should be left. And WP:G6 is not a catch-all for deleting any page that people seemingly wouldn't care about deleting. There isn't a technical maintenance reason why draft redirects need to be deleted, so it's not a proper use of G6. ~ Jenson (SilverLocust 💬) 23:41, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @SilverLocust: thanks for bringing this to my attention, I wasn't aware of the consensus you mention above, or indeed of a reason why it makes sense to keep such redirects, but as you say they're not really doing any harm. As for the mode of deletion, ordinarily I would have simply suppressed the redirect when making the move, which is something even a page-mover could do, but in the two cases above I forgot to do this at the time of moving and so deleted them as what I thought was a simple G6 ("housekeeping") afterwards. In future I will do neither of those things and simply leave the redirect in place. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 11:20, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
Incomplete move?
I was going to request a move for Lippe (disambiguation) to Lippe but it seems in 2016 you closed an RM, yet whilst the district was moved the disambiguation page never was from what I can glance from the logs. Talk:Lippe_(district)#Requested_move_25_July_2016
I presume this is an error and that the disambiguation page should be titled Lippe, if not I will start an RM for it. Traumnovelle (talk) 09:41, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Traumnovelle: oh yes, you're quite right, I clearly just forgot to do the second part of the move
. I have completed it just now, there doesn't seem to be any issue with that. Thanks for noting this — Amakuru (talk) 10:03, 20 June 2025 (UTC)

Just for info, as pings can be unreliable, I've started a discussion at the talk page since the move obviously isn't uncontroversial as I originally assumed :-) Danners430 (talk) 10:08, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
Notice of intention to move
Per Doomsdayer520's comment here, I wanted to notify you that I intend to request an uncontroversial move for Timeline of US intervention in the Syrian civil war to Timeline of United States intervention in the Syrian civil war. Since you last moved the page, I am notifying you. This move will coincide (hopefully) with the uncontroversial move of US intervention in the Syrian civil war to United States intervention in the Syrian civil war. Please feel welcome to ping me in reply here or ask follow-up questions on my talk page. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 04:22, 26 June 2025 (UTC)
WikiCup 2025 July newsletter
The third round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 June. This round was again competitive, with three contestants scoring more than 1,000 round points:
BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,314 round points, mostly from articles about athletes and politicians, including 20 good articles and 48 did you know articles
Gog the Mild (submissions) with 1,197 round points, mostly from military history articles, including 9 featured topic articles, two featured articles, and four good articles
Sammi Brie (submissions) with 1,055 round points, mostly from television station articles, including 27 good articles and 9 good topic articles
Everyone who competed in round 3 will advance to round 4 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for round 3 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 4 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 1 featured picture, 9 featured-topic articles, 149 good articles, 27 good-topic articles, and more than 90 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 18 In the News articles, and they have conducted more than 200 reviews.
Remember that any content promoted after 28 June but before the start of Round 4 can be claimed in Round 4. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! MOS:GEOCOMMA
Hello.
I see that you have reverted some article moves that I made to make the article titles comply with MOS:GEOCOMMA.
A discussion on a local talkpage obviously cannot override the wiki-wide manual of style. MOS:GEOCOMMA does not mention an exception for article titles, and thus there isn't one. If you want those articles without the required closing comma, you will have to start a centralized discussion.
Will you self-revert, or will I have to revert you? HandsomeFella (talk) 15:37, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, you are now officially gaming the system, something that has gotten many editors blocked before.
- You will be reported. HandsomeFella (talk) 16:16, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @HandsomeFella: and thanks for the note. No reversion is necessary or permitted here, however, by either me or you, as per WP:RMUM. I was the one reverting you following undiscussed moves on the affected articles, and the history shows these are clearly controversial moves anyway. The discussions I mentioned in the move comments, Talk:2011 Philadelphia, Mississippi tornado being a recent one along the same lines, resulted in a clear consensus for the form without the trailing comma in page titles; in this case the readability concerns for the title – having a series of short phrases separated by commas – outweigh strict application of MOS:GEOCOMMA in a title setting. I also see that you recently held a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (government and legislation) which didn't result in any consensus for change. Note that for some cases of this comma issue, e.g. Rochester metropolitan area, New York, we have bypassed the issue entirely by moving the state name to the end, so if you can come up with a sensible solution along those lines for elections and gain consensus for it, I might be persuaded to support. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 16:23, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- The MoS is clear. If you want to challenge MoS, the burden to start a discussion is on you, not me. HandsomeFella (talk) 18:48, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- @HandsomeFella: it may be clear to you, but WP:AT decisions are always nuanced and there are various issues to be balanced. The bottom line, though, is that undiscussed moves are always subject to reversion if they're contested within a reasonable timeframe. You threatening to reinstate your bold moves, knowing that they were already challenged, would be a straight-up violation of the WP:RM principles and had you done so, I could have requested for them to be reverted once more at WP:RM/TR. I'm sure you know all this, you've been around the project long enough to be aware of the processes. The next step is for you to open a WP:RM discussion if you wish the moves to go ahead despite my objection and explanation of why your reasoning may not have consensus. Escalating it to the drama boards seems entirely unnecessary to me, but YMMV. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 18:56, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- "WP:AT decisions are always nuanced and there are various issues to be balanced". Sure, some articles should have the comma, and some shouldn't. That's "balance", right?
- "You threatening to reinstate your bold moves, knowing that they were already challenged, would be a straight-up violation of the WP:RM principles and had you done so, I could have requested for them to be reverted once more at WP:RM/TR".
- But instead you chose to edit the redirects. Thanks for admitting that you gamed the system. HandsomeFella (talk) 20:27, 30 June 2025 (UTC)

July music
Kafka's birthday again, 12 years after the one with the Google doodle. I admire the flowers for blooming although it looks dry. It took a week to get the composer of Mission: Impossible to the main page. The concert I listened to was remarkable, pic added to the performer. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:05, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
Check out my talk, - if you have little time, listen to Gilda Cruz-Romo in the final scene of Aida, If you have more read her article, and if you have still more check out my music, some sung with me in choir, some played by friends, all heard with friends. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:39, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
Nicolai Gedda would have been 100 today. If you have little time, just listen to his flower song. If you have more read about Helena Tattermuschová, the cunning little vixen. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:16, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
Today you can listen to what the DYK says. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:05, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
- I will check these out tomorrow, thanks Gerda Arendt! Very hot and busy day today... — Amakuru (talk) 22:47, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
- You could also listen to yesterday's concert of all Brahms. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:00, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt Ooh nice, I'll check that out. You may recall that I played in the Brahms fourth symphony in 2023; also did the second symphony earlier this year, I guess whoever picks our music is a fan of Brahms as well 😊 — Amakuru (talk) 16:11, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- The orchestra is focused on Brahms this year, and 2 of 3 encores were also by Brahms (Ravel the other). - Today is Bastille Day, commemorated by a DYK as my "story" and a visit to the Bastille Opera in "music". I like the interview coming with the story, on the day before the big event, but for pomp and circumstance, the affair with 600 singing children and orchestra, and the singer dressed in the national flag, was also captured on videos, much slower. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:42, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- I remember a 2016 TFA in today's story, in memory of 16 July 1916. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:22, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- Check out places for a great smile, - he had just stepped in to play Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2, successfully! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:54, 18 July 2025 (UTC)

- Thank you! - Three of "my" recent deaths bios are on the main page right now, one my story today, Gary Karr, and I loved to find his breakthrough concert in 1962 as a video. In my music today I match it with 9 other double bassists, 7 conducted by a person who's birthday is today - coincidence ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:43, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Four yesterday. - Béatrice Uria-Monzon and her story, Julia Hagen and her no story --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:39, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- RIP to Béatrice, very sad she was too young. And that's a shame about the non-story. It's tough to find hooks sometimes, in the way they're required by the process. I sometimes think DYK struggles to identify what its real purpose is. Hope you're having a good weekend and keep up the good work. — Amakuru (talk) 08:30, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
- I keep expanding the mezzo. I didn't add (what I just found looking for Ozawa) that she played Venus nude, sure that it would attract a possible DYK, and I'd hate it. I don't care about number of clicks but say something substantial about the subject. - I don't think the no-story is over, see WT:DYK#not interesting?. It was easy to find a hook because I didn't want to make the person known but the event, and a former red link wass a chance - my kind of abuse ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:56, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
- She is off the main page but on for GA, - in case of interest. - On Bach's day of death, I decorated my user pages in memory of his music, and my story ends on "peace". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:38, 28 July 2025 (UTC)

POTDs - help?
Hi Amakuru, hope all is well with you. It seems like I've been mostly running POTD myself lately, which has been fine, but I'm getting to the point where I need to ask for help so I don't have to do this every day (specifically, the point where I start making silly mistakes that get me in trouble with @Schwede66 🙂). I don't know who else to ask, so I'm asking you since you worked on POTD for so long. Jay8g [V•T•E] 20:21, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Jay8g: yes, I'm very well thank you. Just trying to enjoy the sunny weather we've been having lately. Hope you are likewise. I know what you mean about POTD, it's good fun to do but can definitely become all-consuming if you're not careful. Happy to step in and help you out with scheduling some, I'll try to get started on that tomorrow. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 21:21, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- Haha, Jay8g, you weren't in trouble at all. Admittedly, it's a bit hard to judge online interactions. I wrote my note to you with a smile on my face; not grumpy or anything like that. Schwede66 02:28, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
Destubathon runs until the 16th of July
Hi, just a courtesy message to notify you in case you haven't seen the Wikipedia:The World Destubathon contest update in the last few days that we've decided to run the full month until the 16th of July. For those who have been too busy to contribute, we would love some help in reaching 4000 articles by Wednesday night! At present we're about 480 articles short!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:41, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Dr. Blofeld: thanks for the note and for your hard work on the contest... I've not destubbed anything for a while now, obviously not in the running for tupperware, but I'll try to get another few out if I can! — Amakuru (talk) 17:41, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- I thought you did a few very recently! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:48, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
Boring Tsunami
Banished tho I am from the sacred turf of ITN/C, I agree with you and others who advocate pulling the tsunami blurb, which from what I've seen on major news sites has had very little tangible effect on anyone anywhere. Time to wave goodbye to this errant snooz. – Sca (talk) 16:42, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Sca and hope you're well. You're quite right about this. ITN is such an inconsistent hodge podge that calls the project's reputation into question, I can quite see why there are strong calls to abolish it. In the meantime, all we can do is try to argue some common sense into the process even if nobody listens... Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 17:21, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

- Hi @Dr. Blofeld: thanks, that means a lot... I'm glad I could contribute something to the destubathon even if I wasn't in the running for any major prizes. Would have been nice to contribute a bit more but limited for time as ever. Thanks again for running the thing — Amakuru (talk) 18:50, 18 July 2025 (UTC)

A Peculiar Family
Hi. Note that Thomas's wife was Priscilla German Reed. His mother was Frances, but she had nothing to do with their theatre. Note also that where the reviews say that someone did an "illustration", they just mean their portrayal of a particular character. The German Reeds called their theatre the Gallery of illustration because, until later in the Victorian era, the theatre (except for Shakespeare and opera) was considered a place of ill-repute, and men would not take their wives and children to see "plays" at a "theatre". So German Reed called his theatre a "gallery", the works "entertainments", and performances presented "illustrations", and many of the works were intended for a family audience. -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:52, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Ssilvers: many thanks for your corrections on this, much appreciated. This isn't an area I know much about, I just wanted some content to go with the Picture of the Day entry I was creating at Template:POTD/2025-07-30 and there seemed to be enough content that I could find in the contemporary papers to put together a short article on it. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 17:59, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
- Your new article is good. You may want to read through the article on the German Reed Entertainments, as it was really a very interesting little part of British theatre history -- they provided family-friendly musical entertainments in a time when the alternative was Victorian burlesque and bawdy adaptations of French pieces at theatres where one could, for the right fee, take home a young lady from the corps de ballet. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:16, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
POTD page move broke some transclusions
Your recent POTD page move broke some transclusions. Would you like to tidy them up so that the conversations make sense? Wikipedia:Database reports/Transclusions of non-existent templates keeps track of transclusions of nonexistent templates, and when a POTD is created for 2025-08-03, at least some of the conversations won't make sense anymore. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:49, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Jonesey95: thanks for the heads up, and I think I've fixed the ones that were specific to that particular picture/article that is now in October. I've just added a new entry for the 3rd August, and I think all the other remaining transculsions are relevant to that one now. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 23:12, 21 July 2025 (UTC)

- @QuicoleJR: thank you, that's much appreciated! It was a bit of work to round up the citations, and I found a few "facts" that didn't seem quite accurate along the way, but it was good to get it into shape. I did feel a bit guilty after pulling it from ITN earlier, so thought I'd better muck in and ensure it got respoted ASAP. Cheers and happy editing — Amakuru (talk) 22:31, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
