Restaurant articles redux
Extended content |
|---|
|
I am continuing to encounter problems with your (in my opinion) poorly-made articles on restaurants, more recently your failure to update these articles or even come back and add significant content to them. Here is one example, taken from the category of restaurants in Minneapolis: On the Vinai (restaurant) article, user JoeNMLC added a tag noting that it was missing some pretty important information, including its history and the type of restaurant. In your favor, you did go back and add the type of cuisine served, as well as some additional sources, but the article still looks incredibly bare. An article with only one source and barely any information would probably not even pass the least seasoned reviewer on WP:AfC. So why do you think that would be an acceptable product for mainspace? Finally, reading through WP:CORPTRIV, I do not think that inclusion on a New York Times list of "best restaurants" or an award nomination makes a restaurant automatically notable. You need to show much more than that. Your initial revision of the Vinai article only had a NYT list as a source, and CORPTRIV says "inclusion in lists of similar organizations, particularly in "best of", "top 100", "fastest growing" or similar lists" do not count towards WP:SIGCOV, even if the list itself is notable. I know you could probably make these articles and show a case for notability at the same time if you actually tried - look at what you did at, idk, Café de Olla, or your many GAs on Portland restaurants, and replicate that. We are not in a race to make an article on every restaurant the NYT has ever listed or the James Beard awards have ever nominated. Hell, even some of the restaurants on the "Oscars of the food world" list still don't have articles, and probably should! wizzito | say hello! 22:39, 4 April 2026 (UTC)

Statue of Swami Vivekananda (Seattle)...
Hey Another Believer!
Last night I came across a news article in the Seattle Times in regards to the recently installed statue for Swami Vivekananda in Westlake Square.
Figuring that an article must've been written on Wikipedia about the artwork (I had almost even odds it would've been created by you!), I checked. I noticed your attempt was changed to a redirect due to lacking notability. Perhaps this newspaper story could help restore the page, or at the very least, allow for expansion at the Westlake Square article.
Happy editing and all the best!

The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to £2000 ($2680) in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. Sign up in the Contestants/participants section on the contest page if interested. Even if not interested in prizes you are still warmly welcome to participate in it as an editathon! Hopefully we can achieve something significant in the month of May together! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:40, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

Robert McClenon (talk) 09:28, 22 April 2026 (UTC)- @Robert McClenon Thanks! I think this is the 120th draft about a Drag Race episode accepted at Articles for Creation since November. ---Another Believer (Talk) 11:56, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- By a variety of reviewers, I assume. That is because an excessive number of Drag Race episodes were moved from article space, where they belonged, to draft space. The ones that I review and accept are the ones whose names look like they may be Drag Race episodes, and I check whether they were unnecessarily moved to draft space. CostalCal (talk) 22:29, 25 April 2026 (UTC)Hi
I wanted to get your thoughts about a revision you made recently (there was no change note).
I thought I'd work through the stubs you created for List of public art in Houston. In Houston, one artist may have several pieces throughout the city, and so my original plan was to have a section discussing the art, and then a separate section listing other related public art pieces in Houston (in a separate section so if the reader does not want to know about the others they can skip it).
There was something you didn't like about that (?) because you deleted the heading for one of these topics (but not all of them). Since you created these stubs, I assume you've still got them on your watchlist and so you'll see me working on them for a while. So, I thought I'd share my thinking and then get your reasoning. Wikipedian-in-Waiting (talk) 01:32, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Wikipedian-in-Waiting Oh! I thought the heading wasn't necessary and the text was fine in the main part of the article body (and because it was just two sentences long). But if you prefer the heading, by all means feel free to add back. And thanks for your work on public art articles! ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:59, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
- That's a good point. It doesn't matter to me either way, but I didn't want to be kinda bugging you for however many stubs there are! Wikipedian-in-Waiting (talk) 02:30, 26 April 2026 (UTC)

WikiCup 2026 May newsletter
Extended content |

|
The second round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 April. As a reminder for contestants who just joined or are unaware of recent changes to our round-points system, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year. Round 2 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; nine scored over 500; and fourteen scored over 300. The top seven contestants had at least one featured article (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 13 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 106 good articles, 22 good-topic articles and more than 40 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 3 In the News articles, and they have conducted over 200 reviews. The tournament points table has been updated. Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
