Your move of these categories started populating redirects like Category:B-Class pages so I had to revert them. Hi, sorry to bother you. I'm reaching out because you create a lot of Canadian media related articles and I value your opinion. See Draft:Dawn Wells - the subject showed up, tried to write an autobiography, didn't have much luck so I stepped in and rewrote it. The only real claim to notability is the 2023 Atlantic International Film Festival, the sources there are I believe are everything we got. Is that good enough or no, in your eyes? Hi Bearcat, it's been 14 years since you placed the Chak Hinauta article under semi-protection, and I think it's time to unprotect it. The article has seen only 21 edits since the protection and just 247 views in the past year (see here), so I doubt this will be the target of a lot of disruption. Many, many users have been editing that article at once that it's so hard to revert. I remember you from one case (maybe Titan Stub?) and so I have replied to you. I saw your "no redlinked categories" edit got reverted and that you've been a big contributor to Wikipedia for a long time. I am concerned about this user's desire to create redlinks (not just categories but in prose as well) and the overall low quality of their large edits... removing things that add to articles such as File:Commander-X16-Develper-Edition.jpg, not using links appropriately, overall strangeness and removing Template:AFC submission when it explicitly asks not to be removed.

I'm aware that Wikipedia has guidelines against biting new users, but running entire articles through artificial intelligence (this is why I believe that's what's happening) is disruptive. They have not been formally warned and I will not continue undoing their undoes for now. Incidentally, this user page has been deleted by User:BusterD for misuse of Wikipedia as a web host. I saw you reverted the seven or so pages I added to include Category:Villages along Sunday Creek (Ohio) - Wikipedia due to it being a redlink. I was planning on creating the category page for it today, after all it was created like 24 hours ago. The Digital Yoog Media website explicitly lists Wikipedia page creation and promotion as part of their services, indicating potential COI (Conflict of Interest) or paid editing activity.

Based on these observations, I believe this may warrant the use of the template:

I am flagging this in good faith, as I suspect the article may have been created or edited as part of a paid or promotional campaign without proper disclosure, potentially violating Wikipedia's guidelines on undisclosed paid contributions.

In the future, could you please turn draft categories into links or wrap them in {{Draft categories}} instead of removing them entirely? Removing them leads to less work for future reviewers if they accept the draft. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 17:42, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

As I am constantly pointing out to people, you're seeing the one draft that crossed your field of awareness and/or the one draft you want to consider approving as an AFC reviewer — but when I'm working on DRAFTNOCAT and USERNOCAT cleanup, I have to smash through hundreds of pages all in one go, because the reports only run once per week, which means I have to deal with a much, much more onerous pile of work than draft creators or reviewers do.

Drafts are frequently filed in (a) redlinked categories that do not exist at all and could not stay on the page even if it were in mainspace, (b) inappropriate categories that the page wouldn't belong in even if it were in mainspace (e.g. filing a musician directly in Category:Music, where no individual musician ever belongs), or (c) duplicate parent-and-child categories that the page wouldn't belong in even if it were in mainspace (e.g. filing a person in both Category:American people and Category:American lawyers at the same time). And draft creators frequently don't wait for AFC review, and often move their own drafts themselves — meaning that the drafts don't always have any oversight from an AFC reviewer to remove bad categories at the approval stage, because draft creators aren't always waiting for AFC approval at all.

So "just disable all categories but leave them there even if they're bad ones" simply isn't an option — every inappropriate or nonexistent category that gets left on a draft in disabled form just means more cleanup work down the line. So bad categories have to come off now, and cannot just be deferred for another round of hitting the same page again to do more category cleanup days or weeks later. And since there are hundreds of pages to deal with in one shot, I also can't spend five minutes investigating every individual category on every draft for its goodness or badness — if I'm getting through the bad category reports at a rate of just 12 categories per hour (5 x 12 = 60), then it will take me 24 to 48 hours to get through the entire report, which is not an investment of time that anybody has a right to demand of me.

And there simply isn't any rule that categories on drafts must always be disabled and can never be removed under any circumstances, because draft content is not sacrosanct.

So, of course, if you come across one or two categorized drafts in the process of regular editing duties, then by all means feel free to just disable the categories if you want to (though bad or nonexistent ones that even a mainspace article wouldn't belong in always still have to be removed regardless) — but when I'm having to work with the full cleanup report, and get through batches of hundreds of pages in one go, I have to get through the batch in the shortest amount of time possible, which means I don't have the time to invest extended research time into the appropriateness of every individual category on every individual draft, and "so then just leave bad categories on the draft anyway and then hit the page again for more cleanup later on" is not an acceptable alternative.
