Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, Bill's Reservations. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Bill's, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Smallangryplanet (talk) 12:22, 23 January 2026 (UTC)

Hi there, are you available to help me? Bill's Reservations (talk) 10:18, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

Your username

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Bill's Reservations", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, website, or role, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. If you are having trouble, you may want to try using the unblock wizard.

Before requesting a new username, check if it is still available. If the search says "There is no global account for [username]", the username is free to use.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the edit. Cabayi (talk) 11:42, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, Bill's Reservations, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Billsrest (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. Cabayi (talk) 11:43, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Bill's Reservations (talk) 12:51, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
There are multiple concerns in play here.
  1. You are engaging in undeclared paid editing (UPE) contrary to the WMF's terms of use. You need to declare this according to the WP:PAID policy.
  2. The new username you requested represented a role. The username policy does not allow usernames which represent a group, organisation, or business, a role within them, a product, a service, or a website. Your real name is not required, just something unique to you that represents YOU, not your job.
  3. A previous account, Billsrest (talk · contribs), has also indulged in UPE on Bill's. Billsrest had been cautioned about their COI. This places you in the position of being Billsrest's sockpuppet or meatpuppet.
  4. Once you have resolved those issues by a successful appeal (which I will not be handling), you will need to refrain from editing Bill's but to make edit requests using the wizard. The article on Bill's is an encyclopedia article. It is not part of Bill's website, or social media.

Hi Cabayi,
Thank you for reply, you are the first to reply with some advise so thank you for that.
When I did the conflict of interested it asked to provide the payment for editing but I don't have that as editing the Wikipedia isn't my job, I've just been asked to try to edit it so it reflects the correct information, as for the other account I had no idea it existed.
So I should do a username change to some unique not connected to Bill's? is that correct.
I'm dyslexic and I'm getting super confused with all the wording/writing so a little more guidance would be well appreciated.
Thank you. Bill's Reservations (talk) 13:16, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
  • "editing the Wikipedia isn't my job" vs "we just want to change ", "we don't offer", "our new logo design"
  • "I work for Bill's"
Please don't gaslight yourself. You're a paid editor.
"So I should do a username change to some unique not connected to Bill's? is that correct." Yes. Cabayi (talk) 14:09, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
"Excuse me? I am very sorry but that is incredibly rude. I am simply asking for help, as you have offered to me above. I work for Bill's, yes, in their reservations team. I am not an editor in any fashion.
All I need your assistance with is how to change the page. If you cannot do that please point me in the direction of someone who can." Bill's Reservations (talk) 14:52, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) "Editor" refers to your role here, on Wikipedia. A user who submits content to Wikipedia is an editor. The two terms "editor" and "user" are considered interchangeable.
Since you work for the company whose article you are trying to change, you are a paid editor by Wikipedia's definition. That obligates you to avoid making changes to the article directly.
The preferred method for you to submit changes is to use the edit request wizard tool. Your changes will then be reviewed by independent editors; depending on their evaluation, they will either post them or send them back to you for revisions. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 16:06, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
Most Wikipedia editors are here for free. If you're paid to be here/editing as part of your job, it's incumbent upon you to first learn how things work here before attempting them as part of your fiduciary duty to whomever is paying you(like your boss). Most of us volunteers are willing to answer your questions, but we won't handhold you because we're not being paid and have little interest in you being paid. I regret that some comments appear rude to you, but we're not here for our own interests.
We are sympathetic if you have a condition that affects how you participate here, but it's up to you to manage any such condition. We can only do so much for you.
Please read WP:BOSS, and show it to your boss. 331dot (talk) 16:19, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
