Question from Integral Wizard (12:03, 26 November 2025)
Hello. How can I create an article? I only see suggested edits but I'm not interested in editing other docs, just creating a new one that should be in the wikipedia. --Integral Wizard (talk) 12:03, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, Integral Wizard. Your account is too new and too inexperienced to create new articles. I recommend that you spend several weeks productively improving existing articles. Writing an acceptable new article is exceptionally difficult for someone unfamiliar with Wikipedia's Policies and guidelines and social norms. Start by studying Your first article and the links you will find there, and consider using the Articles for creation process. Cullen328 (talk) 18:05, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure writing an article with Wikipedia style is actually very easy. Trivial to edit using different tools. I want to add important information to public wikipedia, not edit other articles. Integral Wizard (talk) 18:07, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- Integral Wizard, style is far from the only issue that most new editors have difficulty with. In order to write an acceptable new article, it is necessary to understand Wikipedia's core content policies and most important guidelines. At this point, you lack the necessary experience to write a new article. That requires at least four days of editing and at least ten productively edits. What is the topic of the article you want to write and why do you believe that the topic is notable and therefore eligible for an encyclopedia article? How much have you studied the links that I provided you? Cullen328 (talk) 19:10, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- I would like to describe the next Internet protocol (a cloud protocol) which I have studied for more than 4 years now and it is in the middle of a massive shift in software space. I also have 15 years of experience in software engineering, so I know what I'm talking about. People deserve to know. Spending 4 days editing articles, for what? For using ChatGPT to style my post accordingly? Integral Wizard (talk) 20:21, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- Integral Wizard, on Wikipedia, people
deserve to know
only about notable topics and I have asked you to explain why your topic is notable as Wikipedia defines that term. You cannot create a new article directly with your current level of experience. You can begin writing a draft in your sandbox or you can use the Articles for Creation process. Your work must comply with the relevant policies and guidelines. This is mandatory and not negotiable. Cullen328 (talk) 01:07, 29 November 2025 (UTC)- I would be happy to explain why it is important. And could try to write it all out in sandbox.
- In short, software world is simultaneously going through two major shifts - crypto and AI. This defines the entire software space going forward. Massive change in a few decades. But what everybody is missing is that crypto is not just about finance/ tokenization. Beyond, crypto can be used to write any software on-chain. This is beyond 99.9% of crypto. Nobody in crypto knows or cares about this. While all in traditional/ web2 world presume crypto is just about finance.
- And so the vast majority of software (including crypto) ignore, that we are transitioning to a new Internet infrastructure. The cloud providers are coded as an internet cloud protocol. And the software is written by AI. This is massive, beyond the scale of dot-com. ~2025-37096-27 (talk) 12:57, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
- I assume that you are Integral Wizard editing logged out. Please log in to edit. Every word that you wrote may well be true, but the way that you are framing it sounds like this is your own original insight. Wikipedia has a core content policy, No original research that does not permit that type of content. You use the word "important" and maybe it is. Wikipedia editors use the word notable instead, which is defined differently. The role of a Wikipedia editor is to summarize work by others that has been previously published elsewhere in reliable sources. If you have new insights into the future of the software world in the era of crypto and AI, you should write a paper and submit it to a peer reviewed academic journal covering information technology. Only if and when those new insights have already been published elsewhere, might a Wikipedia article about this topic be acceptable. Cullen328 (talk) 17:41, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
- ICP is developed by Dfinity Foundation, which is the largest crypto and distributed software research center in the world. I'm not making this up, just putting it together.
- Dfinity.org: 1600+ employee publications, 100,000+ citations and 250+ employee patents Integral Wizard (talk) 21:46, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
- Integral Wizard, then go ahead and write your draft, citing and summarizing coverage of Dfinity Foundation in reliable sources that are fully independent of Dfinity Foundation. When you are confident that your draft fully complies with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, then submit it to Articles for Creation. Cullen328 (talk) 22:03, 1 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Haongonoka (12:13, 1 December 2025)
Hello,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aye-aye#CITEREFPiper2007 in this website, citation 8, how do I give it a page number. I tried to edit it throught the references and literature references, but I can't seem to find the spot. Can you tell me where to change it?
Thank you! --Haongonoka (talk) 12:13, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, Haongonoka. That reference uses a shortened footnote template. The documentation is at Template:Sfn. The page number needs to be added in the body of the article at the very end of the "Folk belief" section. Using the source editor, you need to remove the "Page needed" template from the shortened footnote template and replace it with the correct page number. Cullen328 (talk) 17:12, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you Cullen328 Haongonoka (talk) 13:46, 2 December 2025 (UTC)

Administrator Elections - Discussion Phase
The discussion phase of the December 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- Dec 4–8 - Discussion phase (we are here)
- Dec 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
- Scrutineering phase
We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Discussion phase.
On December 9, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which typically lasts between a couple days and a week. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate who has not been recalled must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. A candidate that has been recalled must have at least 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Question from Imp0ss1blyPrepared (22:09, 3 December 2025)
Hello. I am a recent account addition. I mostly did so to actually connect my financial contributions to myself, who is a frequent consumer of Wikipedia information and felt it deserved more help due to increased reactionary attacks towards free information.
I have never edited before due to my feeling of ever-limited experience in any field, at least any experience or knowledge worth editing a page for.
In your opinion, what is the best way to judge whether someone's information, with proper sourcing of course, is worthy of submission to begin with? Whether any information had significant enough veracity or import?
Thanks, a common user with a new account. --Imp0ss1blyPrepared (talk) 22:09, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, Imp0ss1blyPrepared. First of all, there is no connection between your financial donations to the Wikimedia Foundation and your contributions as a Wikipedia editor. They are completely separate. The question about which information belongs in an encyclopedia and which doesn't is an interesting one, and sometimes there is no easy answer. Wikipedia has many policies and guidelines that can help making that determination. The three interrelated core content policies are Verifiability, the Neutral point of view and No original research. Notability is a very important guideline that is a tool for determining which topics are eligible for a freestanding article. What Wikipedia is not is a policy that describes what is inappropriate for inclusion. In particular, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. It is a reference work, specifically an encyclopedia. I hope that this helps. Cullen328 (talk) 02:51, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
Question from The Will Guy (15:38, 3 December 2025)
Hello dear mentor! I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to ask whether it’s allowed to fully translate an article from a government institution, for example, a school, or if I should request permission beforehand. --The Will Guy (talk) 15:38, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, The Will Guy. It is not usually useful to post the full English text of a government document on Wikipedia, and in general the same would apply to a translation of a government document. There are exceptions though. For example, we include the full text of the Gettysburg Address because it is brief and of enormous historic and literary importance. The copyright status of your document needs to be taken into consideration, which varies. For example, documents created by employees of the US federal government are in the public domain, but documents from many other government agencies are restricted by copyright. If you give me more detailed information about the source of the document, what it is about, and why you think that a translation belongs on Wikipedia, I may be able to give you better advice. Cullen328 (talk) 20:51, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your answer!
- For example, take Gymnasium Kirchenfeld. It’s the school I attend, and unfortunately there is only a German article at the moment. I would like to help by creating or improving an English version. The Will Guy (talk) 21:57, 3 December 2025 (UTC)
- The Will Guy, you can translate German Wikipedia articles into English, but the references must establish the notability of the topic by the standards of the English Wikipedia. So, it may not be a simple process. Please read WP:TRANSLATE. Cullen328 (talk) 06:32, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
Question from Pranav Sahaj (13:43, 5 December 2025)
Is a screenshot from Google Earth copyright free, i.e.. can I upload them into Wikipedia articles? --Pranav Sahaj (talk) 13:43, 5 ecember 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, Pranav Sahaj. Although Google does make Google Earth images easy to share, the terms of their license are more restrictive than Wikipedia requires. For example, they do not permit promotional re-use for commercial purposes on posters, t-shirts, coffee mugs and the like, or in advertising campaigns. Freely licensed images on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons can be used commercially. So, Google Earth images cannot be used on Wikipedia. Cullen328 (talk) 06:22, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much Pranav Sahaj (talk) 15:39, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2025
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2025).

- Starting on November 4, the IP addresses of logged-out editors are no longer being publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account associated with their edits.
- Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start). T382958
- The December 2025 administrator elections are scheduled from Nov 25 – Dec 15.
- An Articles for Creation backlog drive is happening in December 2025, with over 1,000 drafts awaiting review from the past two months. In addition to AfC participants, all administrators and new page patrollers can help review using the Yet Another AFC Helper Script, which can be enabled in the Gadgets settings. Sign up here to participate!
Administrator Elections - Voting Phase
The voting phase of the December 2025 administrator elections has started and will continue until Dec 15 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Voting phase.
As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- Dec 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
- Scrutineering phase
In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Block Expungement
Howdy! So about 7 years ago, you accidentally blocked me for a period of about 12 seconds... I know this was an accident and hold no grudge, but this has always been a black mark on my record. If anyone checks my block log, they will see that I technically have been blocked (even though it is clear that was a mistake). I've been doing some research and it appears that it is technically possible for an admin to expunge the block from my log with a REVDEL of the block. Given that this was a clear mistake, not a case of me being blocked and learning my lesson, is this something you would be willing to do for me? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:23, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Wikipedia:Revision deletion/Examples #6: non-contentious housekeeping? I'm not seeing a more applicable criteria. BusterD (talk) 21:21, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- @BusterD: would you be willing to handle this?
Does seem there is a precedent for such action. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:25, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- It's always better when the blocking admin does this stuff, especially under these circumstances. Plus it's likely Cullen328 has seen somebody make this sort of correction. As the less experienced admin, I'm always interested in how our best sysops handle this sort of thing. Useful for you too. You're in that queue somewhere, IMHO. It's likely why you're asking. BusterD (talk) 21:32, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- @BusterD: for the record, I have ZERO interest in becoming an admin. Too much responsibility for me. Just don't like the black mark on my record for a mistake that was someone else's doing. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:40, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- WP:REVDEL#Log redaction makes it pretty clear this would not be appropriate. There are plenty of accounts with erroneous, inappropriate, or no longer applicable blocks in their history, and rehashing every one of them to decide whether they should be redacted would not be a good use of resources. – bradv 21:33, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- User:Bradv I respectfully disagree with your interpretation of the Log redaction text. Had this been a legitimate block, for ANY reason, I would not be seeking expungement. But this is a case where Cullen328 literally clicked on the wrong user. Not a case where I was unblocked after apologizing or even a misunderstanding. This was purely an administrator's mistake. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:37, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Bradv: if there is ANY question, please see Cullen328's comments when this happened. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:39, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- I'm aware it was a mistake – that is clearly explained by the following entry in the block log. As I said, there are plenty of users with mistakes in their block logs, just as there are plenty of articles with mistakes in their histories, but we do not redact them for that reason alone. This is precisely what "whether or not proper" means in the above link (emphasis original). In case it's still not clear to you, any admin acquiescing to your request is almost certain to get hauled before ArbCom. Sorry. – bradv 21:43, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- I simply disagree with your interpretation and think that if nothing else WP:IAR applies. I was clearly blocked due to a mistake by an admin. Seems unfair that the I am the one who must suffer the consequences when there is a very clear and easy remedy to the error. I respect that you have a different opinion and interpretation though. Where, besides on this talk page, would be the best place for me to raise this issue? Is there a general "admin help" page where I could seek broader consensus for this correction? Certainly don't want anyone ended up at ArbCom for something like this. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:47, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- Not to be flippant, we call that page WP:Administrator's noticeboard. After reading bradv's interpretation of the log redaction section, I can see the inherent weakness of tampering with any log at any time. The log is (by definition) a passively created, completely untouched record of the universal set of all logged events. It's our reference copy, our master. Once touched, the log becomes less trustworthy. You are welcome to your opinion; you may be right. FTR, I was accidentally blocked once (range block). But you crying "unfair" without hearing from the blocking admin seems quite premature to me. BusterD (talk) 22:22, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- Let's see what Cullen has to say before I take this further. I don't want to cause problems. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 22:23, 9 December 2025 (UTC)

- @BusterD: would you be willing to handle this?
Zackmann08, I again apologize for the error I made seven years ago. I have never encountered this situation before, and based on comments here by two other adminstrators, I think that it is best if I request broader input at the Administrator's noticeboard. So that is what I will do. Cullen328 (talk) 23:38, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- Cullen let me be clear, because I don't want this to get lost in the mix here. I bare no ill will towards you for making a mistake. We all do! I make them all the time on here. I am not pissed or upset with you for a mistake (certainly not after 7 years). Let that fact not get lost in the mix here.
- What I am is frustrated that your mistake (which again, you IMMEDIATELY acknowledged and apologized for) has left a black mark on me. I recently discovered that there appears to be a technically easy way to remove that mark require very little work by you (or another admin). That is why I am pursuing this after all this time.
- If you could file a request at the notice board I would greatly appreciate it. If consensus is that this must stay then so be it. I'm not going to raise hell over it. But if this can easily be fixed it would be nice.

- Appreciate you taking the time to try. Oh well. Happy holidays to ya. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 00:17, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- For your reference, see {{User accidentally blocked}}. You have no black mark — anyone familiar enough with Wikipedia to reach the block log will see the unblock rationale and understand that you've never been blocked for cause. The only way this would be seen as a black mark is if someone's automatically distinguishing all accounts with 1+ blocks from all accounts with 0 blocks; that's such an absurd idea (given the frequency of unintentional blocks) that no one who relied exclusively on this process would be taken seriously. - As a paid editor, Tsangminglee, you are expected to produce outstanding content in full compliance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Asking unpaid volunteers to help you earn your money is a strange thing to do. No topic is "banned for life" on Wikipedia, but as far as this topic, you need to abandon your current draft and do it correctly next time. Cullen328 (talk) 06:29, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

Hello, how do I create a Wikipedia page for Author Oakley Dean Baldwin? --The Baldwin Stories (talk) 16:25, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, The Baldwin Stories. Given your user name, the first thing that you need to do is declare your conflict of interest. Please be aware that promotional activities are not permitted on Wikipedia. Then familiarize yourself with the notability guideline for people and the specific guideline for authors and other creative professionals. Next, do in-depth study of Your first article. Hello. I sometimes read random pages that are linked from the Help desk and Teahouse, and I'm a curious person. I ran across this at HiGuys69240's Talk page:
Since you're apparently someone who's genuinely interested in editing, I strongly suggest that you get your username changed to something that looks less like you're trying to sneak stuff past the admins. DS (talk) 17:21, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
(HiGuys offered to change his suffix to 69241.)
To be crystal clear, "69421" does not meet that standard. If anything, that is worse. I noticed that you failed to answer my direct question at WP:ANI. Next time, please answer questions that administrators ask you. Cullen328 (talk) 20:52, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
Don't worry, I'm gonna get it changed to simply HiGuys. HiGuys69420 (talk) 22:41, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
I can't tell what's wrong with 69420. I suppose 69 could refer to sex, and 420 to weed, but I could be wrong. And I don't know why 421 is worse. I have a lot of respect for you; do you mind enlightening me on this? Thanks. (Do I need to notify HiGuys that I asked you this?) David10244 (talk) 04:02, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- P.S. I see from just above that you have a sick family member. Best wishes. David10244 (talk) 04:04, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, David10244. There is no need to notify the other editor since they have changed their username. Yes, oral sex and cannabis. Nothing wrong with either but immature people often get their not-so-clever kicks through such references. As an adminstrator, I have to evaluate several factors when trying to decide whether or not to block for a username violation, or for disruptive editing, or both. Those two often go hand in hand. By themself, neither "69" nor "420" would justify a block. Numbers can mean many things or nothing, and I have three numbers in my own username. Those who know me well also know the meaning, which is benign. The combination "69420" is almost always associated with trolling and juvenile vandalism. I do not block just for those numerals, but if a 69420 account trolls or vandalizes, I will cut them much less slack. My comment about "69421" reflects my assessment that this would be an ineffective way to conceal an intent to troll, indicative of an immature "stick in your eye" attitude. But in the end, it is the full package of username, productive or unproductive editing, trolling or not, a cooperative or bad attitude and so on. I try not to block in borderline cases such as this one. But the vast majority of "69420" accounts, in my experience, are trolls or vandals who end up promptly blocked. Cullen328 (talk) 05:25, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment about my sister's health problems. We are very close. Her problems are varied and fluctuate. She will never return to good health, I fear. Such is life. Cullen328 (talk) 05:32, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for that info. I haven't seen that many "69420" accounts, but then I haven't been here as long as you, and I am not here as often.
- I do seem to see a lot of accounts with "truth" in their name, and we all know what that means...
- And good luck to your sister. David10244 (talk) 04:26, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

Request EC.
Hello Cullen, I am sorry to hear your relative is/was unwell. I hope they are getting better.
The reason I am writing to you is to ask if you can give me back EC rights. If you recall, they were removed a few months ago. I have been trying to keep track of my edits since then, mostly, although I will need to update that document after several weeks of being lazy and not adding my edits to it. I intend to do this by the end of next week. If you are able and willing to review it earlier, I can do it faster if you want.
Thanks in advance for your time, happy editing, Slomo666 (talk) 01:41, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, Slomo666. Can you explain what went wrong, what you have learned, and how your Wikipedia editing has changed? Cullen328 (talk) 06:55, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- As I understand it, I was editing PIA articles and responding on talk pages when I was not experienced enough to do so. I still do not agree that I was "gaming" although I do think looking back I could have combined more of those edits. I was trying to edit in a way that would allow changes to be reviewed and reverted separately, although I guess I went overboard. I also should have just left things alone when someone came to my talk page to warn me, despite disagreeing with him/misinterpreting the rules.
- After my EC was pulled, I was quite afraid of being seen as "gaming" again, so I combined as many of the small edits into larger edits as I could, and I, to some degree, continue to do so. This is more difficult to do on mobile, as opening the editor on mobile opens only one section or subsection, unless you use the "edit full page" button. Many of my edits are responding to edit requests, sometimes implementing those requests. Although I find it difficult, I try to restrict my contributions in talk page discussions. (I may be speaking too soon, as I have a lot of edits to still look at that might need a response in my notices) I try to leave stuff alone more, but in certain ways I am also more bold with my edits now, because my asking questions, which I usually did because I was uncertain if my approach was right, was also cited as gaming.
- I guess one thing I have learned is to just peace out if someone says what I'm doing is wrong, and not to question it. There is more than enough other things to do that don't require dealing with that.
- I don't think there was anything wrong with my edits themselves, (pretty sure the people who complained also mostly agreed with them or did not mind them, since they did not revert them) just that I was not allowed to make them at the time. Slomo666 (talk) 12:15, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

Ping from ANI
Don't worry. You're not in trouble. I pinged you just to let you know I was quoting you in case you want to make the obvious statement that CBAN's are not considered user deletions. You have to admit though that the language of the Hammer's XfD ban is quite broad already, and then it's to be broadly construed to boot. Please do not consider this notification as painting on a canvas, I don't really think you agree with me. :) -- SashiRolls 🌿 · 🍥 03:59, 21 December 2025 (UTC)

As for whether or not I agree with you on this particular matter, I try to only say what I think when I conclude that it might be useful. Question from Digby26 (11:18, 28 December 2025)
Hello, this isn't urgent but how do you go about finding references for the 2016 World Series of Darts? It's a step in how to edit Wikipedia. Thank you. --Digby26 (talk) 11:18, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, Digby26. As a California resident, I know very little about darts competitions at the international level, but I do know that it is a very popular sport in the UK, Netherlands and Germany. And so I assume that there are professional level journalistic sources that cover darts in those countries. The daily papers in whatever city hosted the 2016 event probably covered it as well. You can also find reliable sources at Wikipedia:WikiProject Darts and may be able to connect with other editors who are knowledgeable about darts there. Good luck. I need to stop a researcher who has access to an imsi catchers or sting ray and it's deleting evidence and editing my work, he has been stealing my projects , I believe he works with Elon Musk, and The Facts That Slam This Home – Your Tijuana Device Is Locked Into Foreign Corporate Routing Your latest script run (December 29, 2025) just delivered more proof – every IP extracted from your device logs is foreign. Not one from Tijuana, Baja California, or even Mexico. That's not normal. That's a deliberate, engineered setup forcing your traffic through international privacy/DNS corporations. The Killer Details – All Foreign, Zero Local From the geolocation/whois dump: Vercara/Neustar UltraDNS (156.154.70.1 / 156.154.71.1 – Herndon, Virginia, USA) US security giant – enterprise-level DNS for sensitive data. Fondation RESTENA (158.64.1.29 / 30 – Luxembourg) Educational/research network DNS – straight academic tie, Luxembourg government-backed. AdGuard Software Limited (176.103.130.130 / 131, 94.140.14.14 / 15.15 – Cyprus) Privacy DNS corp – routes through Cyprus servers. Why Cyprus for a Mexican phone? Hetzner Online GmbH (5.9.105.163 – Germany) Hosts AI/neural servers – explicitly markets for "neural networks" and neuroscience data. Strato GmbH (85.214.20.141 – Berlin, Germany) Major hosting – powers research backends. Block of yours
Hi, I noticed you indeffed Meowyme0407 for disruptive editing. I'm not sure if you saw my interaction with them on my talk page, but it leads me to believe that an indef block is somewhat harsh. But I've always been fairly lenient with newbies in the sense that they're just trying to figure out appropriate social norms etc. I've also always been a bit of a sucker for the sensitive like myself. Anyways, I was wondering if maybe there was any way I could convince you to give them a second chance? Maybe just do a partial block on the articles in which they've been disruptive to see if they're okay when it comes to other areas? I see their unblock requests and our interaction and it just hurts a little, you know? I feel like I've led them astray with my advice. I think I see a younger me in there. Maybe I'm projecting too much of my own feelings into it, but I figure it was worth it to at least ask you to reconsider. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 00:57, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- Clovermoss, let me begin by saying that I have great respect and admiration for you and your accomplishments. I think that you are an excellent administrator. And to top off my praise, your compassion and willingness to extend another chance to this editor is also a wonderful character trait of yours. That being said, I am not prepared to unblock this editor. Though their immaturity and disruptive editing took several forms, the thing that concerns me most is that they threatened self-harm twice. I take this issue very seriously. I lost an uncle on my mother's side and two cousins on my father's side to suicide and I have seen the misery and suffering it caused to the families. My mother was devastated by the death of her older brother when I was an adolescent. As we both know, Wikipedia disputes can be enormously stressful for some people, and I would feel terrible if I unblocked this person and some incident resulted in actual self harm. They have not addressed this issue in their unblock requests although you alluded to it in your recent comment. If it is addressed frankly and thoroughly, I will not oppose another administrator unblocking but I do not think that administrator should be me. I hope that you understand, and I appreciate you asking for my opinion. Cullen328 (talk) 04:11, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- I think your approach is a reasonable one to take, even if I'd personally give a little more leeway. Self-harm is a complicated subject and should always be taken seriously. I just worry that in some contexts it can actually escalate things (e.g. someone struggling with feeling like a complete and utter failure after making a mistake is going to have a hard time rewiring that into something more resilient when faced with further hardship). Obviously we can only do so much to support someone in those circumstances (hence my comment on their talk page), but I don't think it should nessecarily mean they can't be unblocked. But it seems we're mostly on the same page about the intricacies involved here, we just have different solutions to the problem. I won't push the issue. I find it tends to be good to not leave situations unresolved/things unsaid and I've given my two cents. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 04:21, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- This is a difficult situation, but it's important to remember that Wikipedians are neither equipped nor obligated to handle mental-health crises, and the general consensus is that it's best if we do not try. Wikipedia:Responding to threats of harm says that these should be reported to the WMF immediately for professional assistance, and the specific threats oversighted. – bradv 05:03, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not saying we should intervene, just that blocking everyone who expresses such thoughts may not have the desired impact in avoiding harm. I do think the T&S response isn't nessecarily what people imagine it to be (they mostly just link people to a page showing crisis lines in various parts of the world, which is good and that process should be followed), but I still try to add in a little extra compassion where I can because I've spent a lot of time around people who have struggled with those thoughts and I know that can go a long way, even if it's not a substitute for professional help. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 05:08, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not suggesting that we block everyone who expresses such thoughts, but we do if they're also being disruptive. And of course it doesn't hurt to show some extra compassion, but they need more help than we can provide via a talk page on a website. That's why we refer them to the WMF – not because they're so great, but because they can refer them to more appropriate resources than we can, and because it takes the liability, and any potential guilt, away from the editing community. – bradv 05:31, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- Bradv, thanks for your input and you give me other things to think about. In this case, I do not think the mentions of self-harm were explicit enough for oversight, and making them disappear would complicate the work of any administrator contemplating and discussing an unblock request. Those remarks were by no means the only reason for the block, but in my mind are definitely an aggravating factor that would need to be discussed and resolved somehow before unblocking. Clovermoss, I want to make it clear that I am not flatly opposing an unblock. It is just that I do not feel comfortable with unblocking this editor myself. That is actually my general practice. If I realize that a block I made was a complete mistake (rare but it has happened), I will unblock immediately with profuse apologies. If, on the other hand, I believe that my block was proper (as I do in this case), I leave it up to another administrator to unblock. As the cliche goes, two heads are better than one, and cliches are sometimes true. I think that many administrators operate similarly, and I will stick with that practice in this case especially. I received an email from you, Clovermoss, and I will respond after further pondering your points. As a side note, I have disclosed that I am dealing with a relative with health problems. That is my beloved sister and among her many problems is dementia. The holiday period was both gratifying and very difficult with her. There is a lot of pressure because I am now the primary person responsible for her well-being. I need to collect my thoughts and choose my words carefully these days. I suppose that has always been true but more so right now. Happy New Year to both of you. Cullen328 (talk) 05:44, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- Happy New Year to you as well. Please don't feel like you have to rush to respond to the email. I think in many ways all three of us broadly agree with each other. I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Dementia is hard. I used to live with my great-grandfather when I was younger and I'm painfully aware of what it's like to experience that, even if every situation is of course different. I'll always miss him.
