Should synthesis be included in the articles of chemical drugs?

Hello, I'm a long-time reader, but yet a new editor of Wikipedia. I noticed that you removed the "Synthesis" section that I recently added on the page of a new drug Gepotidacin. In the version history, you said WP is not a lab manual, and patents are not reliable sources. I don't understand the first point you made. Indeed, too much details on the synthetic procedure is inappropriate, but since pages of a lot of chemicals include their synthetic procedures, and a drug is also intrinsically a chemical, isn't it good to add the synthetic pathway, especially for complex ones like gepotidacin and many other new drugs?

I'm new as an editor, so I'm not familiar with the editing conventions. Please elaborate on clarifying the point you made, thank you.

I currently recovered the Syntheis section, and to meet the RS requirement, a secondary source of a review article was used instead of the patent. If you still find the section inappropriate or undue, you can modify or delete it again, thank you. Sweet Hat 325 (talk) 09:23, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

I see you've asked at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chemistry and are already getting good advice there, so I'll leave thoughts there when I get a moment. But the main one was indeed relying on a patent. It took me a while as a new editor to recognize some of the "reliable source" rules such as that one. WP:RS is the key guideline on that topic. OK

Thanks for the message. I think that you know that I dont really have "disdain" for organic synthesis, but I get your point. I will lay off sparring and get back to business. --Smokefoot (talk) 18:36, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

ANI edit question

Would I be correct in assuming that deleting comments about one's own account by others would be a bad thing? Special:Diff/1335988351 Orxenhorf (talk) 10:23, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

You would be very correct. DMacks (talk) 10:29, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
I undid it and gave them a warning3 about it. DMacks (talk) 10:33, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
Thanks. I figured that was better off with finding an active administrator. Orxenhorf (talk) 10:35, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
Glad to help. Sorry there's the situation that needed it. DMacks (talk) 10:38, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

Arbitration

  • Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.

Hi DMacks, I noticed you re-added the Muppet Wiki links on Scooter and Kermit articles. I've been under the impression that the inclusion of the Fandom Wiki on Muppet articles has historically stemmed from outdated guidelines/procedures. Am I missing something or misinterpreting? What purpose does it serve in 2026? Tvfunhouse (talk) 05:44, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

I have no idea if links to the Muppet Fandom site are currently recommended to include or to exclude. But given the {{Muppets}} template currently has about 110 uses, it seems like something that should be decided with a central discussion. Maybe there has been? If so, pointing to it is a great WP:ES. If not, and you think it should be scrapped, feel free to start the discussion. It would also lead to deletion of the template itself (not just removal from articles)...no sense retaining a tool to accomplish a task that should be be accomplished:) DMacks (talk) 05:52, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
Just was curious of your perspective in case you were aware of something I wasn't regarding the template. Thanks. Tvfunhouse (talk) 05:54, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Trimethylsilyl acetate, a link pointing to the disambiguation page Alcohol was added.

  • Following a motion, remedy 9.1 of the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been amended to limit TenPoundHammer to one XfD nomination or PROD per 24-hour period.
  • Following a motion, the Iskandar323 further POV pushing motion has been rescinded.
  • The Arbitration Committee has passed a housekeeping motion rescinding a number of outdated remedies and enforcement provisions across multiple legacy cases. pyrimidine dimer: move & categories

Dear DMacks,

I made recently an important modification in the article “Pyrimidine dimer”. I added sections on “photochemistry”, “optical properties”, “technological applications” and modified the introduction accordingly. I also wanted to slightly modify the title to “Pyrimidine dimers” because there are many different classes of such dimers, corresponding to at least 40 different chemical compounds. But when tried “move” I saw that I was not allowed to proceed to this modification. Moreover, I tried to change the categories to , , , , and . But it seems that in this article there are hidden categories and I failed to do the change. I would greatly appreciate if you could help me with these two issues. Thank you in advance Sincerely, Serbacc (talk) 09:00, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

pyrimidine dimer:categories

Dear DMacks, As the "categories disappeared in my previous message, I send them again: Nucleic acids, Photochemistry, Mutation, Melanoma, Smart materials. Thank you Serbacc (talk) 17:38, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting that addition - moments before I hit the submit button on my reversion, lol. I also suggested WP:AITELLS in my edit summary. Have reverted several of their other contributions. Brand-new editor with picture perfect additions that take liberties with the provided sources. Sigh. cheers. anastrophe, an editor he is. 19:05, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
