Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, website, or role, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. If you are having trouble, you may want to try using the unblock wizard.

Before requesting a new username, check if it is still available. If the search says "There is no global account for [username]", the username is free to use.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the edit. Salvio giuliano 11:39, 25 February 2026 (UTC)

The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies, in it’s more than 52 year history, has never been a commercial business, has never made a profit, and has always produced projects that never in tended to be profitable, but rather always documented, and disseminated, and preserved, information concerning historical events, and important artists, such as Keith Haring, Christo, Name June Paik, Ansel Adams, Arron Siskind, Jerry Uelsmann & Robert Heinecken; all of whom are deceased, which is why The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies published 3 books with conversations that David E. T. Howard M.F.A. had with them. Those 3 books are entailed “Realities,” published in 1976, “Perspectives,” published in 1978 and “Realities: Revised Final Vision Version III,” published in 2018. None of those books made a profit, nor were they intended on making a profit, but rather were published to preserve historical information that is available for free for future generations’ research! “Realities: Revised Final Vision Version III,” published in 2018, 1500 copies, were given away for free to Universities & Museums at a net loss of $18,000 (US) dollar for the printing and $9,000 (US) dollars in U.S.P.S. media mail for shipping, for a net loss of more than $27,000 (US) dollars. The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies is basically a non-profit organization that is in my San Francisco home. The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies is a “Concept” not an “Entity.” The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies is my “Religion” not my “Business!” I never sought, or have wanted to make profit, from the more than 120 video documentaries that I produced & directed under the “Banner;” The San Francisco Center For Visual Studies, in the 1980’s, that concerns Contemporary Art; many of which can be accessed for free on Youtube. I never intended to make a profit, nor did I make a profit, from the video documentaries that I produced and directed in the 1990’s that concern Asian Tribes; all of which can be accessed for free on Youtube. I am not advertising anything on Wikipedia. I never intend to advertise anything on Wikipedia. I never received any monetary compensation from any posting that I made on Wikipedia. I never sought a monetary profit from any posting that I made on Wikipedia! I understand your reasoning for blocking my Wikipedia postings for The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies and I will not repeat those kind of postings. I never received any monetary compensation for anything that I posted on Wikipedia! If I am unblocked from posting on Wikipedia; in “general terms,” I expect to re-write, to Wikipedia’s standards, what I wrote in the above concern The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies. Please change my user name to “David E. T. Howard M.F.A Artist at The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies” Thank you for helping me. All the best David E. T. Howard M.F.A. Request reason:

The following request was written through the unblock wizard.
Can you explain, in your own words, why your edits were promotional?
Based on Wikipedia’s username policy, I cannot use the name "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies" as a username because it represents an organization rather than an individual.
What is your relationship with the subjects you have been editing about?
I, David E. T. Howard M.F.A. Artist, established The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies, more than 52 year ago. The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies not a commercial business ocumented, and disseminated, and preserved, information concerning historical events, and important artists, such as Keith Haring, Christo, Name June Paik, Ansel Adams, Arron Siskind, Jerry Uelsmann & Robert Heinecken.
If you are unblocked, what topic areas will you edit in?
The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies published 3 books with conversations that David E. T. Howard M.F.A. had with Ralph Gibson, Keith Haring, Christo, Name June Paik, Ansel Adams, Arron Siskind, Jerry Uelsmann & Robert Heinecken. Those 3 books are entailed “Realities,” published in 1976, “Perspectives,” published in 1978 and “Realities: Revised Final Vision Version III,” published in 2018.
Is there anything else that may be helpful to your unblock request?
Thank you for including my Wikipedia because I am certain Wikipedia provides a superior research tool, perhaps the very best research toll on the entire internet, that is used the world over by millions of people. I am proud to have been, and I will continue provide, with your permission, additional Wikipedia approved and authorized valuable historical information concerning contemporary art made available for free for future generations’ research for decades to come!
San Francisco Center for Visual Studies (talk) 04:54, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Could your proposed new username be shorter, like "David Howard of SFCVS"? Lengthy usernames can interfere with pages and make it harder for others to communicate with you. Your organization does not have to be a commercial business it to be promoted; anything can be promoted. Wikipedia has a very broad definition of promotion- an organization telling about itself is considered promotional here, you don't have to be selling something or actively soliciting(see WP:YESPROMO). Our articles are typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the topic, and those articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the topic, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of notability, like a notable organization. Please review conflict of interest and in a new request tell us what will change about how you contribute, as well as if there are any topics unrelated to your organization that you might edit about as a general contributor. 331dot (talk) 08:52, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) You were asked this before, but failed to answer: are you willing to accept a shorter username, such as "David Howard of SFCVS"? Long usernames can cause problems with pages and make it more difficult to communicate with you. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 05:25, 7 March 2026 (UTC)

Concerning your request for me to change my user name! I am confused! Please help me clarify some things. Wikipedia hosts an edit of the person "David Howard (photography artist)" A.K.A. "David E.T.Howard." When I attempted to create a separate Wikipedia page edit associated with "David Howard (photographer artist)" entitled "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies" that Wikipedia edit was blocked and deleted and the "David Howard (photographer artist)" was blocked, remains block, but was not deleted. I am attempting to leave the "David Howard (photographer artist)" page as it is for now and make a separate Wikipedia edit page titled "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies." Will Wikipedia let me make a separate Wikipedia edit page titled "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies?" Concerning Wikipedia's request that I change my user name; If Wikipedia permits me to make a "stand alone;" "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies" Wikipedia edit page will my username be the same for both the "David Howard (photography artist)" and "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies" Wikipedia edit pages? And if that is the case; What bearing does the renaming of my username have on either of those pages "David Howard (photography artist)" and "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies?" When people consult Wikipedia; In what way does my username affect the researcher of people viewing the 2 separate Wikipedia pages that I am attempting to create or unblock; "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies" & "David Howard (photography artist)?" Does my new user name affect the search of people who are searching for the existing "David Howard (photography artist)" Wikipedia edit page or the new Wikipedia edit page that I am attempting to create "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies?" If the username does effect the outcome of peoples search for either of those mentioned Wikipedia edit pages: In what way is a search for those pages effected by my username? I'm sorry for all those "Run Around," circular questions but I am not privy, knowledgeable, or familiar with Wikipedia edits. Thank you for helping me! San Francisco Center for Visual Studies (talk) 06:30, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
I think you are confusing creating an article with creating an account. Note the "User talk:" in the title of this page- this page is for communicating with the operator of this account, the person sitting at the computer/holding the device. It is not a Wikipedia article. The username of this account needs to reflect the operator. 331dot (talk) 09:20, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
As requested by Wikipedia: Please change my username to David E. T. Howard Please unblock my account. Thank you San Francisco Center for Visual Studies (talk) 16:01, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
If you are the same person as the subject of the article David Howard (photographer artist), then you may be asked to provide proof of your identity. This is meant to ensure that you are who you say you are, and that no one is impersonating you. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 16:22, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
Concerning my request to change my username to David E. T. Howard; As you requested; I can provide proof of my identity as being David E. T. San Francisco Center for Visual Studies (talk) 22:19, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
And if you are indeed David Howard (photographer artist) , you'll need to read Wikipedia:Autobiographies; and I must also ask if you have any connection to the primary editor on that article, Sengchan sivilay. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 23:31, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
Which article are you referring to? San Francisco Center for Visual Studies (talk) 00:34, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
Jpgordon is referring to the article "David Howard (photographer artist)". It was created and substantially edited by another editor named "Sengchan sivilay". If you have a personal or professional relationship with this person, you should disclose it, as they would have a conflict of interest as well as yourself. Transparency is of utmost importance here.
The way to send verification of identity is to email info-en@wikimedia.org; tell them that you are the subject of the article "David Howard (photographer artist)" and ask what they require of you to verify your identity. Do not send unsolicited scans of identity documents; the volunteer response team will inform you of what is needed. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 01:59, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
I am in Bangkok Thailand. I do not have access to my California driver's license because I do not have that with me. It is no use to me in Bangkok. I left it with my wife in San Francisco so she could use it as proof of my identity to receive "Signature Confirmation" deliveries. Please change my user name to "Visual Studies" not to "David E. T. "Visual Studies" is worse, not better than "David E.T. Howard".
Again, your drivers license is not necessarily needed. Do not provide any copies of any identity documents unless requested(and I doubt it will be). Just email the adddress and ask to demonstrate your identity. 331dot (talk) 10:40, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
You could do a username like "David of Visual Studies" or "David of SFCVS". 331dot (talk) 10:42, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
Why are we even bothering with this? All this editor wants to do is write about himself. Most of the links on Draft:The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies are to a sales page entitled ASIAN TRIBAL ART: DAVID HOWARD ASIAN TRIBAL ARTIFACTS. Many of the links on David Howard (photographer artist) are also to that site. This is pure self-promotion. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 20:38, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

O.K. but where do we stand? What happens next? Do I now have the username "David of Visual Studies?" Is the Wikipedia page entitled "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies" that I originally submitted, going to be published? Is my original submission under the title "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies" available to be edited to your liking? If you think my references are intended to generate "business:" I can change every one of my numbered reference to a different source other than my web site. The internet is full of multiple links the I can substitute for all the linked references to numerous other internet sources other than to my web site. Is "The San Francisco Center for Visual Studies" page that I original submitted available for an edit? Can we start with my original submission and you can go ahead and edit it anyway that suits you; to Wikipedia standards? I do not understand the point of all your requested changes to so many, what seem to me, meaningless issues! I really do not understand what different what my username is, but apparently that is, in some way, extremely important to you, which is my point. There are 6 "Jake Wartenber's" individuals posted on "LinkedIn" as potential contacts! I attempted to "Connect," twice, with each of those 6 "Jake Wartenber's" on "LinkedIn." "LinkedIn's" pop up window changed from "Connect" to "Pending" all 12 times that I attempted to connect to each of those 6 "Jake Wartenber's" that are posted on "LinkedIn." Was that sufficient to verify my identity or is there an alternative solution for me to verify my identity for the more than 700 paid staff members, contractors and over 280,000 volunteers who work at Wikipedia? I hope to hear from you again. Thank you for helping me. All the best David E.T. Howard ~2026-15097-67 (talk) 01:02, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
If this is indeed User:David of Visual Studies, please log into your named account rather than from the temporary account you've been posting with. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 01:18, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
As you requested; I attempted to log into my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies" but I have yet to established a password for that Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies" because I have never logged into that account before! I have only been using "Wikipedia" talk to communicated with any one of the more than 700 paid staff members, contractors and over 280,000 volunteers who work at Wikipedia since being "blocked" by Wikipedia at 11:39 A.M., February 25th, 2026! I was given that user name, "David of Visual Studies," via "Wikipedia" talk by one of the more than 700 paid staff members, contractors and over 280,000 volunteer bureaucracy who work at Wikipedia. To my knowledge; I was never was issued, nor was one ever established, by Wikipedia, or myself, a password to my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies." I never attempted to log into Wikipedia before so I never established, or was given a password, to my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies." After I attempted to do as you requested that reads; "User:David of Visual Studies, please log into your named account rather than from the temporary account you've been posting with." and of course; after I attempted to log into my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies" Wikipedia's, as you requested, Wikipedia's password "pop up" window appeared. Seeing that my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies" was named for me by you on Wikipedia talk rather than establishing that account myself; a password for that account was never instigated. The only alternative left was to attempt the Wikipedia re-set option of the non-existent password that I never had and after doing so the Wikipedia pop-up window appeared that read: "You have requested a password reset. If the information submitted is valid, a password reset email will be sent. If you haven't received an email, we recommend that you visit the reset password help page or try again later. You can only request a limited number of password resets within a short period of time. Only one password reset email will be sent per valid account every 24 hours in order to prevent abuse. The details you submitted are:
username: David of Visual Studies." but I never received an email with any option to re-set the password for my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies." When "Jake Wartenberg" sent me the following email: "Dear Mr. Howard, Thank you for reaching out. I have attempted you connect with you on LinkedIn. If you can connect with me and send a message, I can note on Wikipedia that you have verified your identity. You are welcome to remove the LinkedIn connection afterwards. Yours sincerely, Jake Wartenberg." Jake Wartenberg sent that email to my Google Gmail address. I did not receive a Wikipedia password re-set option that could have possibly been sent to my Google Gmail address though I checked that multiple times. What email address do you have on file for my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies?" Is it the same email address that Jake Wartenberg sent email to me at my Google Gmail address? What should I do now since verification of my identity failed when I did as you requested on Wikipedia talk; sign into my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies." and after attempting to respond to, the request of "Jake Wartenberg" to contact him through my LinkIn account after I responded to Jakes' request from my Google Gmail account that stated "Hi Jake Wartenberg; Your Linkedin attempt to verify my identity failed! Linkedin informed me I do not have any "Unread Messages!" So I attempted to utilize "LinkedIn" to respond to Jake Wartenberg, via LinkedIn as Jake requested that entailed; Contacting the 6 "Jake Wartenber's" posted on "LinkedIn" as potential contacts! I attempted to "Connect," twice, with each of those 6 "Jake Wartenber's" on "LinkedIn." "LinkedIn's" pop up window changed from "Connect" to "Pending" all 12 times that I attempted to connect to each of those 6 "Jake Wartenber's" on "LinkedIn." Was that sufficient to verify my identity or is there an alternative solution for me to verify my identity?" To my consternation; I did not receive a request through my Linkedin account "David E. T. Howard" any messages, or message, from any of the 6 LinkedIn Jake Wartenber's, nor did I receive any other email message from you addressed to any email address of mine requesting to verify my identity, other than the one I received though Wikipedia talk and the mentioned email that Jake Wartenber sent to my Google Gmail address. I hope you find a solution to this dilemma that has continually caused exhaustive confusion when I must choose between two, or more, difficult, or undesirable, Wikipedia requests, that continually fail to verify my identity for my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies" since 11:39 A.M. on February 25th 2026! I can upload my valid U.S. Passport to any email address of your choosing and that surely will verify that I truly am David E. T. Howard, but for some unknown reason, Wikipedia resists that simply solution; to once and finely, to surely resolve Wikipedia's suggested failed attempts to verify that I truly am David E. T. Howard. I truely believe; that you truly believe, that I truly am David E. T. Howard but with that said: I will continue to follow your dictates and comply with every, and all, Wikipedia mandates. So what shall I attempt to do now so it can be established to Wikipedia's satisfaction that I truly am David E. T. Howard? Thank you for helping me. I hope to hear from you again. All the best David E. T. Howard ~2026-15097-67 (talk) 04:58, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
Even if you do figure out a way to verify my identity is truly David E. T. Howard; what good will that do if I do not have a password to log into, as you requested, to my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies?" In addition: No one, on "Spaceship Earth," could have written the historical facts, or have even known the historical facts, that I wrote on Wikipedia talk at 11:49 A.M. February 25th 2026, any better than if they had known my first pet's name was "Ronnie!" I truly believe: You truly believe, that I truly am David E. T. Howard but I will continue to follow your dictates and comply with every, and all, Wikipedia dictates. So what shall I attempt to do now to established to Wikipedia's satisfaction that I am truly David E. T. Howard and how is it possible for me to get a password for my Wikipedia username account; "David of Visual Studies" if Wikipedia continually fails to provide an email to "Re-set" my password that I never had to begin with? I'm flashing on George Orwell's "Big Brother" as we continue to drown in The Large "Bureaucracy" of your Hierarchical Administrative System of Non-Elected Officials who carry out the Day-to-Day Business of Governing Wikipedia! Thank you for helping me. I hope to hear from you again! All the best; David E. T. Howard A.K.A. "David of Visual Studies!" ~2026-15097-67 (talk) 07:21, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
Just to make sure -- you've tried just using your existing password? You username was changed -- nothing else. The old password should work just fine. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 22:28, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
If I can not locate the original password, and when I attempt to log in and change my password, that fails because I do not receive en email with an updated password, what recourse do I have? ~2026-15097-67 (talk) 13:53, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
