Question from Giovanna1224 (15:50, 13 May 2025)

Hi and thank you for helping me out! I would like to complete my dashboard course but it gets stuck on the DO IT page. Is there anything I can do? Thanks again --Giovanna1224 (talk) 15:50, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Giovanna1224: sorry, I don't know anything about that. Also, you have no other edits (other than this message), so I can't see what you've been trying to do. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 15:58, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
PS: You can summon help from others (who hopefully know about this dashboard thingy) by placing the {{help me}} template on your own talk page User talk:Giovanna1224, and explaining there what the issue is you're facing. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:07, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from OMATAR PIEN EMPIRE (17:11, 14 May 2025)

If I edit projects will I be paid for them

How much will I be paid for editing a project --OMATAR PIEN EMPIRE (talk) 17:12, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

@OMATAR PIEN EMPIRE: no one here will pay you, if that's what you mean; this is a volunteer-based project.
I guess someone out there in the real world might pay you to edit Wikipedia, but that makes you a paid editor, which must be disclosed, and comes with all sorts of limitations (see WP:PAID). I wouldn't even go there, if I were you. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:18, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from DB Gachapedia (21:27, 14 May 2025)

I tried to add romanized lyrics to the Anthem of the Latvian SSR page, but it doesn't show up correctly, and instead shows up as one long string of text. Can you help me fix it? --DB Gachapedia (talk) 21:27, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi @DB Gachapedia: if you're just showing the lyrics in a single language, you could use the {{poem quote}} template, which respects line breaks. Or if you want the lyrics in multiple languages laid out side-by-side, you can put them in a wikitable, like eg. at Maamme#Lyrics. HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 04:46, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Post Sex Nachos draft

Hey, I'm (belatedly) contacting you because you declined Draft:Post Sex Nachos back in December. Since then, I believe I have significantly improved the draft by adding sources that I believe show notability. Can you review it again? Not a big deal if it still needs to stew in draftspace for some time; I just wanted someone to look at it and have been waiting for about 2 months now. wizzito | say hello! 04:29, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Wizzito: I think it's better if someone else reviews it next. This can take a while, as we currently have a backlog of over 3,000 pending drafts, but please be patient. Of if you don't want to wait, you can of course always move this into the main space yourself, given that you have the necessary permissions (and assuming you don't have a COI with regard to this subject?) Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 04:50, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
No, no COI. I'll keep waiting. wizzito | say hello! 05:06, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Draft:Oscar García Urrego: Revision history

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Oscar_Garc%C3%ADa_Urrego&action=history

The page in question (https://worldmusicianobituaries.org/musicians/oscar-garcia-urrego/) that the Speedy deletion nomination took place "under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement", was actually created based on the draft of the Wikipedia article, not the other way around. As you can see on the bottom of the page, they are crediting and referencing Wikipedia as the source of the article, so this article was not copied from that page, but the author copied the article for publication on the worldmusicianobituaries.org website. Please undelete the page, as this was improperly done. Thank you. Kybihetz21 (talk) 22:20, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Thanks @Kybihetz21, seems you're right. I've undeleted the draft, and restored it to the pre-declined state so it's back in the AfC pool.
Pinging also GoldRomean for info: this is an easy mistake to make (done it myself a few times!), since the copyvio detector only sees that the draft/article is similar to the source, but doesn't realise the source isn't actually a source but a mirror. It's my job as the admin to check (which I didn't), but it's also helpful for anyone requesting G12 speedy to be aware of this.

Advice please

Hi, I wondered if you would take a look ata couple of reverts I have done. TheTrueFeatheredNonsense added [[File:CompatabilityIsOppositeOfSomethingIGuess.jpg]] to [[Pages (word processor)]] and [[File:NumbersInAction,AlsoIsuckatIt.jpg]] at Numbers (spreadsheet)

I reverted them as they seem to have little to do with the subjects, you can barely read the words and frankly, they're crap. Was I correct in reverting and would I be correct using the image vandalism warning? Thanks for taking a look. Knitsey (talk) 22:34, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from Jasmine Artiga on Jasmine Artiga (03:09, 16 May 2025)

How do I add a picture to my wiki ? --Jasmine Artiga (talk) 03:09, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Jasmine Artiga:
The simple answer is, go to File upload wizard and upload one there.
The slightly more complete answer is, please see Uploading images for what this involves.
But the best answer probably is, there is quite a lot to consider before adding pictures, starting with 'are you actually allowed to do so?', therefore you should ideally start by reading Images first.
Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:36, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
@Jasmine Artiga (talk page watcher) to upload a picture of yourself you must:
  • be the owner of the copyright. This is usually vested in the photographer, not the subject
  • upload it from a location or person which/who licences it for use on Wikimedia Commons (there are very specific criteria, see c:COM:Copyrights)
  • be able to upload it to the English Language Wikipedia under the doctrine of fair use, which is very strict.
I know of no other circumstances where a picture of a person of your age can be uploaded within the rules. You are too young for copyright to have expired. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 18:48, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from Shenaall (04:21, 17 May 2025)

Hello, I want to know if I can nominate multiple Did You Know entries about an article that recently nominated to GA. I have multiple ideas for the hooks contents. For example: in Stray Kids case, I want to nominate the two DYK (first act to debut atop a chart with 6 first chart entries & first act to appear at the met gala as a group). If I nominate it together with ALT1, then only one of the two will appear in the DYK right? So, can I nominated each topic in different nominations? -- Shenaall (t c) 04:21, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Shenaall: sorry, that's not an area I have any involvement in. On WP:DYK you can see a list of editors actively taking part, it's best if you ask one of them. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 05:33, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

Reliability of source

Hello dear DoubleGrazing, this 1 source has been used on article Khanzada Bahadur Khan of Wikipedia but I'm confuse with this. If you have time, please look at this source once and tell me whether it can be used on Wikipedia or not. Thank you! 🦅Durjan Singh Jadon (talk) 10:20, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

@Durjan Singh Jadon: I've no idea. I don't know what that source is, and cannot read it. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:45, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
I want to remove it from article because we can't read it and looks like poor source. 🦅Durjan Singh Jadon (talk) 10:52, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
@Durjan Singh Jadon: alright, if you have reason to think it's not a reliable source, go right ahead and remove it; just make sure you give a reason in your edit summary. If someone objects to that, they may revert your edit, and you can then discuss this on the talk page, per WP:BRD.
Note, however, that "we can't read it" is not a valid reason, if by that you mean you (or I) don't know the language. Non-English sources are perfectly acceptable, as long as they otherwise meet our requirements for reliability etc. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:58, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
Ok, Thank you so much for permission. Durjan Singh Jadon (talk) 11:02, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
@Durjan Singh Jadon: it's not a 'permission', and in any case you don't need my (or anyone else's) permission to edit. I was just saying that if you think something is wrong with an article, and you can improve on it, go right ahead. That's quite a fundamental principle of how Wikipedia works. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:06, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from Deadriver Driver (23:46, 18 May 2025)

Hi there 😁

Random question but I made an edit to a page recently capitalising a person's name and it's been reversed due to it being "lower case per source"

I have no problem with the edit being reversed but I wanted to ask a question about how to follow best practices when editing pages for grammar and spelling. I'm still unsure about how to approach this and don't want to accidentally step on toes if I edit future pages in the future. I plan on trying to edit and help with Wikipedia in the future due to having more time but it seems a bit daunting.

Any advice would be appreciated 😁

Cheers --Deadriver Driver (talk) 23:46, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Deadriver Driver: I'm not familiar with this subject, but in the source cited against that passage, this person seems to consistently refer to himself as 'slave david stein' in lowercase, so I guess the editor who reverted you feels that's their thing and we ought to respect it.
You're free to make any edit that you reasonably believe improves the encyclopaedia (I say 'reasonably', because while you might believe that it would be an improvement to blank all our articles, that wouldn't be a reasonable belief to hold!), just make sure to leave an edit summary to tell others what you've done and why. If someone objects to this and reverts your edit, you can then discuss the matter and reach a consensus, rather than going to edit war over it. This edit-revert-discuss (see WP:BRD) is how most things happen around here.
The edit summary is sometimes overlooked, but IMO very important. If I see an editor delete, say, someone's date of birth from an article without any explanation, I could find that unconstructive, and might even assume it's vandalism, and revert it. Whereas if it's accompanied with edit comment to the tune of "the source cited does not actually support the DOB, therefore removing for now, per WP:BLP rules" I would at the very least look into the matter before reverting.

Articles for Creation backlog drive

Hello DoubleGrazing:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in June!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 1 month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 June 2025 through 30 June 2025.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 3200 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

Using reliable sources

Hi there! You recently actioned on an article I wrote, and I wanted to ask for some advice as I make edits... You mentioned that the article, which was about a notable person, requires more sources to establish notability, and that not all the referenced sources do that. Can you confirm if podcasts can be used as notable sources, or what the guidance around those is? Thank you in advance for your generous help! Ksnvc395 (talk) 18:38, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

@Ksnvc395: no; podcasts, blogs, vlogs, etc. are user-generated content, and as such not considered reliable because they are not usually subject to fact-checking or other editorial controls. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 18:46, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

Should 'one' open a formal SPI o this shower in order to ask CU th check for sleepers? If conformed, since they upload crap to Commons, perhaps they meet the threshold for global locks? I'd do it, but you know how many you have blocked already. Not sure whether you should endorse your own CU request though. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 07:51, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
Give me a list and I will open it. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 07:51, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
Yes, it probably should. I've been avoiding taking anything to SPI because the case list is approaching 200, and I'm meant to be helping to reduce it, not add to it (!), but you're right, this does warrant one; esp. as the last couple of accounts I've blocked actually pre-date the Ekka Movie block (not by much, only a week or two, but still) which suggests they may be meats rather than socks, or else there's a prior master in the loop which needs to be flushed out. I'm just out the door for the day, but I'll try to add the list here before I go. Appreciate you taking care of this. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:55, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

I'm saying that Ekka Movie (RE User:Ekka Movie/sandbox) is the master, but there could be an older account involved, of course.
I've so far duck-blocked as socks thereof:
All these in the last ~5 days, so quite the campaign going on... -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:10, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
Done at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Ekka Movie. You may wish to add evidence. I have made a bare bones submission. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 08:22, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
CU has found a new account created today. The SPI should produce a decent baseline for future whacking of moles. I think a take-away from this is that, even when blocking, it may be wise to set up an SPI to record and group the malefactors together.
In general terms pressure on SPI is never going to ease. Idiots will always be idiots and create socks and think they have got away with it. What I think we need are more clerks, a slightly wider remit than the very tight CU restrictions, and more admins (who may be either or neither clerk/CU) to take uo the administrative slack. For me the key would be a wider remit. I would choose to extend that to fishing expeditions, perhaps after case by case authorisation.
Of course, I have no clue what goes on behind the scenes. Nor should I know. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 18:22, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Question about sandbox page removal

Hi! I saw that you recently deleted my sandbox page for hoax, and I just wanted to ask what the specific problem was. I understand that my page was fictional, but after reading through the article for hoax, and considering I was using my sandbox to practice infobox editing, and not changing an official wikipedia article, I don’t completely understand why mz page was removed. Could you please let me know what I did wrong? Is it completely disallowed to have an election on my sandbox, or do I maybe need to put a disclaimer somewhere? Please help me understand the rules. Thank you in advance! Mtlelas (talk) 10:21, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Mtlelas: yes, I did delete your sandbox, because it gave off strong hoax vibes. Only when subsequently I went on your talk page, did I see your explanation that you were doing this to learn how to create election pages, which seems not unreasonable. So if you want, I can restore the page. I can't promise that someone else won't tag it as hoax, but maybe we can put a banner or something on it that makes it clear it's a learning exercise rather than a hoax? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:26, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
Yes, that would be awesome, thank you! Mtlelas (talk) 14:24, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

Request for Reconsideration – Reliable Sources Supporting Shangqiu Medical College Article Submission

Dear DoubleGrazing,

Thank you for taking the time to review my draft article on Shangqiu Medical College. I am writing to respectfully request a reconsideration of the evaluation that the submission lacks adequate support from reliable sources.

I have made every effort to ensure that the article is based on verifiable, independent, and authoritative references. Specifically:

  • Official Recognition by the Chinese Ministry of Education: I have cited the public notice issued by the Ministry approving the establishment of Shangqiu Medical College, confirming its legitimacy as a nationally recognized institution.
  • Provincial Educational Documentation: The Henan Provincial Department of Education has published detailed admissions information for the college, which is available on its official government website.
  • Independent Media Coverage: I have included reports from reputable national media outlets, such as People’s Daily Online and Tencent News, which feature the school and its notable alumni, including Chuangye Li, a widely recognized figure in public service and resilience.
  • National Rankings: The 2022 CUAA (Cuaa.Net) university rankings, as reported by Tencent, list Shangqiu Medical College among the top vocational institutions in China, demonstrating its academic standing and broader reputation.

All of these sources meet Wikipedia's criteria for reliability and independence, and collectively, they demonstrate the notability and real-world impact of the institution.

I am committed to continuing to improve the article, and I welcome suggestions to strengthen references or formatting. However, I kindly ask that the deletion or rejection of the draft be reconsidered in light of the substantial verifiable content already provided.

Thank you for your attention and for your ongoing contributions to the Wikipedia project.

Sincerely, Lile212 (talk) 02:22, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Lile212: you will get a 'reconsideration' when you resubmit the draft for another review. It's as simple as that.
You just need to understand the concept of notability, which was the main reason why I declined this draft. Of the types of sources you mention, 'official recognition by the ministry', 'educational documentation' and 'national rankings' contribute nothing towards notability per WP:ORG. 'Independent media coverage' is the only one that does, but it must be significant coverage, not just routine business coverage or passing mentions etc., and also not interviews or articles where someone from the organisation is commenting on things.
Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:27, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
I've added sources that meet the notability requirements. The draft has been resubmitted for review. Thank you for your guidance! @DoubleGrazing Lile212 (talk) 03:12, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
