Articles for Creation backlog drive

Hello EchidnaLives:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in June!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 1 month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 June 2025 through 30 June 2025.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 3200 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

The World Destubathon

Hello. You're invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It will be held from Monday June 16 - Sunday July 13. There is over $3300 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning something to save you money in buying books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for subjects which interest you, sign up on the page in the participants section if interested. Even if you can only manage a few articles they would be very much appreciated and help make the content produced as diverse and broad as possible! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:14, 15 June 2025 (UTC)

Temporary account IP viewer granted

The temporary account IP viewer logo, composed of the Wikipedia globe with a user and an IP address

Hello, EchidnaLives. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:

  • You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
  • Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).

It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:

  • When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
  • Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
  • Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).

Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! Sohom (talk) 05:46, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

Adopt-A-User questions.

Hey echudnalives, first off, do you know if that program is still active? I read your blurb and though it matched mine as I have been getting into some anti-vandal work. I am working on getting my first article published, though AfC, but have been looking though recent changes and spotting vandals and COI's (two so far!). I think I know the general process, but it would be great to have a mentor to help me with this. I am dedicated and exited to work here. Thank you, and feel free to respond back. Ryokantry (talk) 05:11, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello @Ryokantry: thanks for reaching out! Apologies it's taken me a couple of days to get back to you.
I'm really honored that you've reached out to me, but I'm afraid I don't think I'm currently in the best position to assist as a mentor. I've just returned to contributing after nearly three years away, so I'm not too familiar with all the policies, guidelines and processes as I used to be. Until I've spent a bit more time getting back into it, I probably won't be able to properly help out in this space. In all honesty, I had forgotten that I was even down on this page!
As far as I'm aware though, this program should still be active and there should still be people looking to mentor. I'm sorry I can't help, but I wish you lots of luck as you continue in these spaces! Thanks, echidnalives - talk - edits 10:31, 22 November 2025 (UTC)

Technical news

  • Starting on November 4, the IP addresses of logged-out editors are no longer being publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account associated with their edits.
  • Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start). DYK for Australian Senate estimates

On 17 December 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Australian Senate estimates, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a senator once brought fake dynamite into an Australian budget estimates hearing to make a point about parliamentary security arrangements? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Australian Senate estimates. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Australian Senate estimates), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

Speedy deletion declined: Draft:The demon house

Hello EchidnaLives. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Draft:The demon house, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not blatantly vandalism or a hoax. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 15:41, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

Approved article not searchable?

Hello there! I am relatively new to writing articles myself and saw that you reviewed my article Neophyte Records! I heard that once your article is reviewed it's searchable and for the first few days it was approved indeed when I searched for it the wiki page I wrote would pop up, which was really cool. However after a few days suddenly that stopped happening, and now when I search for neophyte records, even with advanced google search filtering for wikipedia only, the article doesn't show up. The corresponding article in Dutch, made by another person, does show up. There hasn't been any major edits to the page since you reviewed it as far as I remember so I am surprised to see this! Is there something wrong with the article, did it get shadowbanned or something? Please let me know in case it is something I can fix :) Poundthiswriter (talk) 10:05, 2 February 2026 (UTC)

@Poundthiswriter hey there! As far as I know, the way the MediaWiki software behind Wikipedia works is once an article has been reviewed, it should be indexed unless a special tag is added, which from a look it doesn't seem to be. So there shouldn't be an issue on the Wikipedia side of things. Maybe it's a search engine thing? You're welcome to read up a bit here: Wikipedia:Controlling search engine indexing.
But I can definitely assure you, at least on Wikipedia, neither you nor your article have been shadowbanned, as Wikipedia doesn't do that kind of thing.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but hopefully it shows up soon. Regardless, congratulations on your article! echidnalives - talk - edits 10:50, 2 February 2026 (UTC)

  • Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.
