Deleted File without chance to follow directions?
According to my talk page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Eduncan911#Disputed_non-free_use_rationale_for_File%3ADell_XPS_730x_Software_AlienFX.jpg, you commented that a file may not meet the terms of fair use.
I differ and have a statement of facts to present. But before the stated 7 days window for me to come in and state the facts, the file has been deleted without any feedback allowed.
I will be restoring the file, if possible, and stating the facts of the dispute. Please contact me if you dispute my rational.

- Finnusertop Thank you for the quick response. The former file is not a question, as that issue back in 2011 was because it was on my user's page and I tried to publish it and the photos were not allowed from user pages. I resolved those issues as I created and owned those files uploaded as well as publishing into public domain. The comments remain on my talk page for posterity.
- The file File:Dell XPS 730x Stealth Blue.jpg is of the discussion here. The rational, as I explained multiple times when I was getting it published on that talk page and it was also flagged as copyrighted multiple times back in 2011, were: 1) it does not violate the first non-free content criterion because there is no free equivalent to available for use. 2) the image was already released of copyright holdings because it used as part of Dell's original Press Kit used for these products back in 2006, and therefore free to use for all media outlets. 3) I have reached out via email and phone call multiple times to contact Dell for permission of a discontinued product (I asked for several other files for permission as well). The only official response I have received was that Dell's marketing was unaware of these files for a "long discontinued product." 4) The product is not available to be professionally photographed as this product has long been discontinued since 2008. 5) Most images out in circulation are not available for use because of several reasons: they are photos of highly modified versions copyrighted by other users and do not match the original product images, copyrighted under a publishing company and that I did not want to violate their terms of (most just reused the same media kit mentioned in reason #2 above), copyrighted by Facebook's terms of service, or are of very very low quality or size.
- I feel adding the aforementioned "Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable" action and the other "On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable" action are acceptable to explain the 1-6 reasons above. - Lastly, I feel I have already done this in 2011 when I justified the image to begin with. - Eduncan911, I'm sorry, I missed the discussion from 2011.
- The issue with replaceability in this case boils down to number 4) on your list: is this product available for photography so that someone could snap a photo of it and release it under a free license. Unless you can prove (WP:NFCCE) that all Dell XPS 730x computers have been destroyed, there are units available for photography. I find it highly likely that a mass produced item from a few years ago is still there: some people own these, others sell them, maybe some of them are located in public places or stores. The replaceability criteria does not mean that it should be easy for you to produce that photograph. The standard is that if it's not categorically impossible, it's replaceable.
- The other points you make are inconsequential. Number 2) in particular is sounds like a flawed understanding of free licensing. A release, even for re-use, is almost never free licensing. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 20:43, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
TIP TIG
I agree with you that there is currently no copyright violation by this article of the company website. The Wikipedia article was not changed during the hour between me nominating the article for deletion and you finding there was no violation, however I believe the company website was changed in that time. I would not have nominated the article for deletion if Earwig's copyvio tool had not flagged it up as a large concern. I don't just take the information it provides but then compare the article and source carefully, and don't proceed unless I am sure it is a violation. Now Google search is not so nimble as the TIP TIG company, and if you search for TIP TIG as I have just done, you currently get what I have copied below, which is part of the exact copyright violating text. The creator of the Wikipedia article has since written on my talk page "I work for the AWS and the inventor/owner of this welding process allowed us to use every kind of content/pictures/videos about TIP TIG.", so the idea of text on the website being rewritten is not so far-fetched as it might appear. - It's a great script, Lingzhi. I tested it for some time. But if I kept it on, harmonizing citations in random articles would be all I have time for. I've decided to use it only in articles I care about and of which I can determine what is the intended CITEVAR. I haven't noticed any problems with the script. The amount of errors is just overwhelming in articles that haven't gone through extensive cleanup. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 20:50, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- I suppose the long-term dream is to add two buttons: one to publish all the errors to the relevant talk page under a standardized heaader (something like "Output of User:Lingzhi/reviewsourcecheck"), and a second to toggle the warnings display on or off. Or maybe not the second one; it's really not a big deal to edit your common.js ... meanwhile, I often just randomly look at WP:GAN articles for pop culture or anything that looks like its refs would have many web cites, then if I see a lot of red I just call IABot's Analyze a page on them as a quiet public service.. sometimes User:Citation bot/use for those that are not web-heavy... but yeah.. copy/pasting all those errors one by one to a review is a really huge pain.. ialso sometimes just just glance down and if I see a lot of red, suggest that people install the script... or whatever. - @Manelolo: I think you've made a great effort in writing the non-free use rationale and how the photo is incorporated in the article. That means that we can dismiss some of the immediate no-go items of non-free content policy. That being said, it's not one of the textbook cases of acceptable use either (ie. using the cover of a book in the infobox of the article about that book).
- There are some uncertainties here about contextual significance: yes, the text of the article talks about this image and how it looks like. But on the other hand, the article is about the event, not the photograph. Then again, the photograph depicts the event (and we presumably have no free images of the event as it unfolded). But does anything about the event itself actually need a visual depiction to be understood?
- If you want a definite answer backed by consensus, you could take it to (or ask me to take it to) WP:FFD. It's the kind use that is neither obviously acceptable nor unacceptable and needs to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, although such a review at FFD is usually initiated by someone who thinks the image does not meet the criteria. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 16:33, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

Question about David Meade
Hi, I checked out the tool you told me and I liked it. However, I do need help with one of the issues on David Meade (author). It says that if "there is not a free use image to the top right corner of the article, please try to find and include one." I've been trying to look for a accurate image to go on the top of the article, but I'm not sure which one seems accurate. - This is a very interesting and challenging case when it comes to images, LovelyGirl7. There seems to be different images circulating of Mead. The one you can see here is quite common. On the other hand, Newsweek thinks that this is him. His identity remains a bit of a mystery so it's difficult to pin down which images of him are accurate. But even if we did, there is no indication that the images are under a free license that we can accept; we can't use them.
- One, though cumbersome, way would be to contact Mead himself and ask for a photo. I don't know how to contact him, but it seems that journalists have done so. There are quite specific instructions about how to do this though, and it's not very easy. Given the circumstances I think chances of it succeeding are pretty slim anyhow.
- At any rate, the situation here is not that uncommon: many of our biographies of living people lack photos of the person. A person is not like a building or a sculpture that is easy to access and photograph. A person may no longer be professionally active, or there may be other special circumstances (such as uncertain identity like here). A photo would be nice to have here, but it's not going to be an obstacle in an FA nomination if there simply aren't any free photos available. I wouldn't put a related photo about the Nibiru phenomenon in the infobox since it's where people look for visual information about what the subject looks like, and in a biography it should be a portrait. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 14:42, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

- As per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates), dates shouldn't use th; for example, instead of (if such appeared in the article) using January 30th was a great day, use January 30 was a great day.[?]
- The script has spotted the following contractions: Isn't, Won't, didn't, if these are outside of quotations, they should be expanded.

- @LovelyGirl7: I've harmonized the date numbers to use the dmy format that was originally decided for this article. I can't see an dates with th; it might be a false positive.
- I did some other tweaks as well. There was a contraction – "that's" – that was actually part of a quote so I placed it inside of quotation marks. The other contractions are in titles of news articles, so they're okay.
- I also unlinked the word Israel inside of a quote. Quotes shouldn't contain links to begin with and this was particularly misleading given the historical topic of ancient Israel. But don't worry, Israel is still properly linked to later in the same section.
- I can't see any problems left with the article. Much of what I said about the article on Jim Bakker applies here; it's a bit short, and I find it likely that there is more information out there because the topic has received massive amounts of coverage. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 14:57, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Another thing I found in the article is that "While additive terms like “also”, “in addition”, “additionally”, “moreover”, and “furthermore” may sometimes be useful, overusing them when they aren't necessary can instead detract from the brilliancy of the article. This article has 18 additive terms, a bit too much." I do need help fixing them. partisanship and democracy
I can understand your lack of knowledge about Western Classical music, but the fact that "it's backed by strong consensus" doesn't mean that it's truthful. That's why Europe was monarchic: to avoid that the opinion of the last idiot was comparable to that of an intellectual. I repeat (maybe I wasn't clear): The composer's biography has nothing to do with the political landscape of that time. Otherwise we should change all the biographies of all the composers with "Germany" (Or any other country, except Finland) with "Germany at the time of". It's obvious, even to a loony, that those 4 lines are political motivated. Personally I'm not democratic (you are one more reason). Since this is a democratic "Encliclopedia" I'm entitled to change something I know more than you. If you change again, I'll write to the Wikimedia Foundation, quoting your name. Thanks, Kind Regards. - It's simple. The political setup of the Italy at the time is relevant to Monteverdi's biography, and books about Monteverdi typically refer to it. There is no political motivation to these lines, they are a statement of historical fact. Mr. Bartolomei might find it useful to read WP:CIVILITY to understand how effectively and constructively to discuss issues on WP.--Smerus (talk) 18:21, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
- You can raise the issue at Talk:Claudio Monteverdi if you think you have persuasive arguments to overcome the previous consensus. Discussing on the talk page is how content disputes are resolved. Olly Olly Oxen Free
You really must not understand the meaning of "olly olly oxen free". You never miss a chance to delete any person who adds a reference they have found in current culture. You probably think the term is not worthy of an encyclopedic article. You always state the term was not properly cited or no citation at all. Why is it your job to police this article? The truth is that to most Americans the term brings back a childhood memory when used in a movie or at a corporate meeting. The fact that the list exceeded over 30 uses (when you deleted them all) proves the relevance of the term. You have removed 8 entries in the last 50 edits to the article. For movie stars they have a separate article for awards and nomination. Would you accept a separate list for all the "In the culture" paragraph? I don't understand my interest. I was surprised that Wikipedia covered the term and proved it's worth of documenting human knowledge. I will shut up.Eschoryii (talk) 03:48, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, Eschoryii, and thanks for dropping by. I absolutely think that the term warrants an encyclopedia article. But we seem to disagree on what that encyclopedia article should say about the topic. There is clear community consensus that only popular culture references that are discussed in reliable independent sources should be included: Wikipedia talk:Verifiability/Archive 63#popular-culture-RfC. If a collective memory of the phrase and its use in popular culture media exists, which probably does, then one would expect to find sources that discuss the phenomenon. I simply happen to have the article on my watchlist. I de-watchlist articles when I no longer see obvious problems with them, but this one keeps popping up with the same issue. Regarding the List of most-viewed Asian music videos on YouTube
Well, I created this article with the mindset that every eager mind who wants to clarify the position of various countries of Asia on the platform of YouTube can have an access to the article created by me. It is true that there is not any official release of any article on the web stating this kind of list but it can be noted that there are several articles depicting the tops of individual countries like that of Korea (K-pop), Japan (J-pop), Vietnam (V-pop), Middle East (Arabic songs), India (Bollywood songs and others) and infact almost every region of Asia possess this kind of list. So, what do you say, are they all narrow minded? It is totally obivious that now the world is globalised. So, the music production by any country may seem the participation of other but that doesn't play with the very identity of the song (resembling the culture). Regarding the negligence of middle east, I tried my best to include each and every part of Asia in it, but I could not make it happen because not every part of Asia could make it to the list (means lowering the bar below 350 million would make the article a mess because there are a lot of many videos above 300 million views). For example, V-pop's best has around 336 million views, J-pop's best have 185 million, Arabic best is more than 600 million views, but it was from a Moroccan singer (and exclusively produced by a Moroccan company). So I could not include them in the list. Well, I am not saying that they will never make it to the list or I have the full editing rights on the article. Anyone can edit it and include others in the future and exactly that's how Wikipedia works. Regarding the breach of the very rights of Wikipedia, I have not made this article for using any propaganda or with wrong mindset or intention. If anybody feels so, then he has the full rights regarding molding the article in the way it suits an encyclopediac content and making it fruitful for others.

- I'm afraid I am not going to change my mind regarding the article, Rishu Shukla. My personal opinion of such topics is that they need to meet WP:LISTN. How many books have been written on the topic most-viewed Asian music videos on YouTube? Zero, I guess. Same goes for academic articles; there might be a few articles in news media, but this is probably WP:ROUTINE coverage (top 10 lists, not actual significant coverage). – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 00:11, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- Defining precisely, the resemblence of culture and languages among different nations, population level of different countries determining the number of views, popularity of that music industry, penetration power of YouTube in different countries and alternatives for such videos etc. are those basic factors which are applied to all the sub-categories of YouTube articles across Wikipedia. Well, there are more people in this world who recognize English as either their first or second language as compared to either German or French. So, they are more likely to listen songs in english language and resemble with the english pop culture. Therefore contributing greater number of views for those videos (Although there are exceptions like Despacito, Gangnam Style, but they are just 1-2% of the whole music industry). Similarly, the population level of India is huge compared to the combined population level of many countries in Asia. But, even though, the views of Indic videos are not as much as K-pop, English songs, etc. As one can notice that YouTube is totally banned in China. That's why even having a humongous population, it does not feature in any of such lists on global arena. Therefore it may be noted that all the wikipedia articles are not representing the whole part of the globe, which means they are all incorrect in one way or other and if they are not, then my article is also right in each and every way as per the general notion followed by all such articles on Wikipedia. Representing more than, half of the human population, it is totally correct to mention list which represents the different countries of Asia on YouTube. Last month's auspicious relaunch of our newsletter precipitated something of an uproar in the Wikipedia community. What started as a localized edit war over censorship spilled over onto the Administrator's Noticeboard finally ending up at Wikipedia's supreme judicial body ArbCom. Their ruling resulted in the admonishment of administrator Future Perfect at Sunrise for his involvement in the dispute. The story was reported by Wikipedia's venerable flagship newspaper The Signpost.
The question of whether to delete all portals--including the 27 Christianity-related portals--was put to the Wikipedia community. Approximately 400 editors have participated in the protracted discussion. Going by !votes, Oppose deletion has a distinct majority. The original Christianity Portal was created on November 5, 2005 by Brisvegas and the following year he successfully nominated the portal for Featured Portal. The Transhumanist has revived WikiProject Portals with hopes of revitalizing Wikipedia's system of 1,515 portals.

Operation Auca was an attempt by five Evangelical Christian missionaries from the United States to make contact with the Huaorani people of the rainforest of Ecuador. The Huaorani, also known as the Aucas, were an isolated tribe known for their violence, both against their own people and outsiders who entered their territory. With the intention of being the first Protestants to evangelize the Huaorani, the missionaries began making regular flights over Huaorani settlements in September 1955, dropping gifts. After several months of exchanging gifts, on January 2, 1956, the missionaries established a camp at "Palm Beach", a sandbar along the Curaray River, a few miles from Huaorani settlements. Their efforts culminated on January 8, 1956, when all five—Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Peter Fleming, and Roger Youderian—were attacked and speared by a group of Huaorani warriors. The news of their deaths was broadcast around the world, and Life magazine covered the event with a photo essay. The deaths of the men galvanized the missionary effort in the United States, sparking an outpouring of funding for evangelization efforts around the world. Their work is still frequently remembered in evangelical publications, and in 2006, was the subject of the film production End of the Spear. (more...)
