User talk:GiantSnowman/2023

Hi GS, Just a quick one regarding your reverting of my edit on Isaac Olaofe. The transfer was agreed on 30 December 2022,^[1] with his contract at Stockport County beginning on 1 January. For any pre-arranged transfer, surely the player stops being a player at their former club on 31 December 2022 at 23:59:59, and becomes a player for their new club on 1 January at 00:00:00? Just makes more sense in my opinion. Any deals finalised on 1 January, sure, put the date to 2023, but this one appears to have been pre-arranged, meaning Olaofe was not a Millwall player for any time during 2023. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 22:17, 4 January 2023 (UTC) Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 22:17, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

We have always treated situations like this as the old contract ending and the new contract starting on 1 January, so the end and start date are the same year. The only situation where it is not done like that is where the player departs a league with a calendar year season. GiantSnowman 22:19, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

Hello! I wanted to clarify my previous edits on the article, as well as say sorry for not asking for your opinion before. I genuinely wanted to help, not to start an "edit war", I promise...

I did avoid editing the "Youth career" section this time, because the articles mentioned aren't so clear about the exact periods of time spent at each club, admittedly. I thought the information I added about Emakhu's debuts was fine, though: I really just wanted to give some more details about those two matches.

Also, I think the statistics I added in the "International career" box were actually reliable: since I couldn't find any sort of database on the FAI website, I used Worldfootball.net as a reference.

I hope my intentions look clearer now. I'll make sure I let you know before I re-visit the page in the future, though, so that I can avoid making a mess like last time.

Oltrepier (talk) 20:18, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

There is no need to apologise! I suggest we discuss at Talk:Aidomo Emakhu so it can get wider input. It will be easier if you break down each addition/change with the specific source and we can work slowly through them that way. GiantSnowman 20:20, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

Right, that sounds good.

I don't have got much time to do so right now, but I'll make sure I come back to it in the next few days.

See you soon! Oltrepier (talk) 20:35, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

GiantSnowman, I know you're active in the WikiProject and I've seen you posting at AfD's that a player's not notable and to please contact you if sources are found; for example here, where I believed she was notable. I'm kind of bewildered by the change in notability requirements for sportspeople, but I'm a big softie anyway ... and I was puzzled when I tried to improve Draft:Truls Klausen (creation by a now indeffed editor who did a poor job of creating drafts based on foreign-language Wikipedias, including Norwegian, which I can read) and it was rejected anyway. Someone had noted at an AfD that there's a Norwegian media archive search, so post-rejection I looked there for coverage during his playing and coaching career (this is the resulting edit since the rejection). Can I ask you to check it and see whether he just doesn't meet the new standards? He never played internationally, and I may be barking up the wrong tree because of my inclusionist tendencies. I believed it would be defensible at AfD already, but it got rejected again. Many thanks if you can, and sorry to bother you. Yngvadottir (talk) 02:51, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

The article looks good, but I'm struggling to assess sources, partly because of language, and partly because some oft them are paywalled. But, in short, does Mr Klausen have significant coverage in reliable sources? If so, he is notable. GiantSnowman 15:55, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

I had a quick look. Transfermarkt is not considered a reliable source at Wikipedia, you would need to replace it by one from worldfootball.net or the like. See WP:WPFLINKSNO. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 16:51, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Yes, good point, I hadn't even looked at that source tbh. GiantSnowman 16:58, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for looking, both! That and the other directory site are being used for his full name and date of birth; I didn't realise there was a better alternative, worldfootball.net, here it is. I've gone through the sources and will be adding a rundown of them to the article talk page rather than here. Two are indeed paywalled and Wayback has captured only the blanked-out version in both cases. I can sometimes see these things using Firefox's print view option or whatever it's officially called, but I can now only see the first paragraph of one and the first line of another. Pity. The source for the year of his marriage and the children is a weak one, a blog interview with his wife; I haven't been able to find a better one at the news archive, so some of that (year, full number of children) may need to be omitted. But that was intended to fill out his bio, rather than as an indicator of notability. (In the archive search, he is mentioned/pictured a couple of times in local news articles about her dance school; I couldn't find wedding coverage.) I was unable to document the 2 Oslo teams he played for, though I suspect a more expert search of the news archive wopuld shake those loose. Initially, I was concerned that he might be a BLP1E because of the May 1995 event; there is indeed a lot of press coverage of that, I intend to add an additional article from a couple of days later, but I avoided having too much about that. But I found multiple articles all about Klausen himself. So I'll also add links to the newspapers I'm citing, and as I say, I'll discuss the refs on talk. (The Norwegian article is under-referenced.) Yngvadottir (talk) 04:21, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

"multiple articles all about Klausen himself" sounds promising! GiantSnowman 11:15, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

Done. Yes, that was why I was confused; the version that was most recently rejected already had two long articles all about him, plus several articles about the collision on the sidelines, and I'd tried to make it acceptable as a biography. Anyway, maybe this will help to either determine that notability is demonstrated or explain how he fails to meet the new standard. (And by the way, thanks again to you, Robby.is.on, and anyone else who takes time to look.) Yngvadottir (talk) 02:42, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

You're welcome. I searched for Klausen at nifs.no (link to search), which is a great resource for Norwegian footballers, but it doesn't seem to have him. Robby.is.on (talk) 11:15, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

Thanks again, and for your edits to the draft. I wonder whether he's missing at nifs.no because he was never on the national team? I suppose he's also unusual in that some of the coverage is for his post-play years. Anyway, I'd be very grateful for an opinion on whether the draft now demonstrates notability under current standards (and remember, I've listed and characterised the sources on the talk page). Yngvadottir (talk) 23:09, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

I'd be surprised if the article didn't pass WP:GNG. The sources listed at the Talk page seem to be more local than regional or even national but a cursory looks suggest they cover Klausen in-depth. And the article is nice. Good luck! Robby.is.on (talk) 23:17, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Agree with Robby - feel free to move to mainspace. GiantSnowman 18:15, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi GS. Babssuba (talk · contribs) probably deserves a longer block. All of their edits from today are inaccurate and have been reverted. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 23:02, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

I'd report at AIV/ANI, but they seem to have been quiet overnight so no ongoing disruption. GiantSnowman 12:09, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. Robby.is.on (talk) 13:18, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

Included in the massive amount of warnings they have received in their talkpage (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:82.102.50.120), i infer that warnings for removal of refs in the infobox are to be counted.

Well, here they are again at it, here (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bernardo_Dias&diff=1122458211&oldid=1117810732; in this page, they also removed a ref i had added back in the day to source the player's nickname!) and here (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Toman%C3%A9&diff=1132045558&oldid=1130893187), the latter "contribution" from yesterday! I have already reverted both, but did not check out for more infractions.

per your message here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:2A02:587:EE38:2C00:FD19:B082:5C5C:79CF), this person seems to be up to no good here and if it were me that IP would be already blocked, but i'm not admin so other people must know better.

Example? Just found Jonathan Soriano, note how they try to source an AUSTRIAN accolade using a source from a MATCH IN SPAIN from 2002 (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jonathan_Soriano&diff=next&oldid=1130558387)! Duly reverted by me of course.

What’s occurring with Noah Naujoks? Hildreth gazzard (talk) 18:16, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

OK, so why did you overwrite the sourced information with unsourced information? GiantSnowman 18:33, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Ibou Touray shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 23:11, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

Hey, would it be worth removing the international career statistics from players pages who have one cap?

For example: Ryan Mason, Jon Flanagan and Ryan Shawcross? If so, I can remove these and go through them? GlenTheYid (talk) 19:57, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

I think so, yes. GiantSnowman 20:22, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

What would you say is the minimum amount of caps to warrant having this information? GlenTheYid (talk) 22:37, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Personally I'd say it's not the number of caps, it's the years that matter. Having a stats table saying '1935 1 cap' is pointless when the infobox says 1 cap in 1935. Readers will want to know when somebody with an infobox that says '1935-1936' earned their 3 caps, for example. GiantSnowman 16:25, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Why have you written sigh - I take great exception to sarcasm and rudeness and you have fallen incredibly short of the basic standards of polite discourse. It is incredibly confusing being told of different rules all the time and varying subjective measures. Yesterday I was told and I quote “ independent, reliable, secondary sources to pass WP:GNG. It should have at least 3 of those” - For Mellon we have bbc sport, Lancs live, and Lancaster guardian. I may be many things but I can count to three. I do not care if the page for Mr Mellon is on the main space or the draft pages until you deem it acceptable, but I will expect an apology for your rude tone and attitude or else i will take my complaint over your interactions with good faith users further. Best wishes Hildreth gazzard (talk) 13:34, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

I sighed because an editor of your experience should know by know that to meet GNG, you require significant coverage - not run-of-the-mill transfer pieces, and the Lancs Live article, whilst more in depth, is not nearly good enough. GiantSnowman 13:59, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi, GS~ I have a question. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football/Archive_158#Gareth_Bale_as_a_%22player%22_in_2023?

Does this discussion reach a consensus? or still under discussion?

In my opinion, this issue is very important and I hope that we will reach a reasonable agreement.

• European Professional football League season system: 2022-23 season, 2023-24 season
• Some professional football League season system including MLS, South Korean K League, Japanese J.League, Chinese Super League: 2023 season, 2024 season

I think it is important to draw a clear line between two season system and one season system.

Current football player infobox in Gareth Bale cause misunderstanding to readers.

Gareth Bale played for LA FC both in 2022 season and 2023 season for 2 years and MLS season is ongoing in January 2023 like European Football League.

If we fill out the infobox like Gareth Bale infobox, many transfers or retirements of MLS players, K League players, J.League players, Chinese Super League players in January and February cause same misunderstanding.

Current discussion seemed to fizzle out. Do I open the discuss again? Footwiks (talk) 07:14, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

It has been archived and whilst I was INVOLVED, I don't think there was any agreement/consensus. Please start a new discussion. GiantSnowman 18:28, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. If you have spare time, please participate in discussion.Footwiks (talk) 03:41, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

You may remember on Talk:Tom Holland (English footballer) that you supported my nomination to move from YOB to nationality disambiguation because there is also a Tom Holland (Australian footballer). I have however noticed a Tom Holland (footballer, born 1997) from the Tom Holland (disambiguation) page so what I think should happen is to return the English footballer one back to Tom Holland (footballer, born 1902) to solve the naming consistency problem in line with your suggestion on Talk:George Hall (footballer, born 2004). Thanks -- Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 18:29, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Yes, sounds sensible. GiantSnowman 10:04, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Can't move it by myself, probably needs an administrator to do it so I have done so on the technical requests page by following the instructions properly. I seems to recall once that another "normal" Wikipedia editor was unable to move a page back to it's normal title probably because of the same reason I was reading about a page name already existing. It might also have happened when the same editor was trying to move Jota (footballer, born 1996) back to Diogo Jota as seen on Talk:Jota (Spanish footballer) but only that person knows, not us.

It was a good discovery that I spotted the other English footballing Tom Holland sooner than later. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 22:09, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Update: move  Done. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 22:25, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi @GiantSnowman:, I've just seen your comment on the revert regarding John McInally (footballer, born 1915). "are you joking?!" – no, I'm really not, and I think your tone could be better. In fact, I carefully studied the source before placing it on the page. The Celtic Wiki is not a Wiki "as we know it", i.e. it is not open ended and its editors are instead restricted to a select number of people who are approved to contribute via the admins, which means it's not much different from a standard football stats website. However, as you're unhappy with the source I'll compromise with simply marking the subject as deceased. Hugh Doherty (1921–2014) and Peter Goldie (b. 1934) have both been identified within the last decade as Celtic's oldest living players, and as such the subject is deceased as he was born in May 1915. I will instead state this in the article, and hope you're happy with it. Sadly, the Scottish birth and death records aren't much good in this instance as there are multiple people of the same name, thus it cannot be determined with absolute certainty which one is him. Thanks again Jkaharper (talk) 01:25, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Fun little piece of information about this recent AfC you were involved in... I just noticed that his article got deleted. I've actually played with this guy once last year, living in San Diego... Great reflexes for sure. Anyways, happy editing! Paul Vaurie (talk) 05:12, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

Great trivia! GiantSnowman 19:00, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

Curious why you think that sentence is UNDUE--it seems to be a fair summation of the sources, which are numerous enough to justify inclusion in the lead. Not to mention that by moving that line down, the Style of play section reads terribly now ("...he is regarded as one of the best full-backs in world football. Alexander-Arnold is widely regarded as one of the best attacking full-backs in world football..."). Maybe we can reword it, but I don't think a lede that ignores the perception of him as a top-level attacking fullback is complete? Alyo (chat·edits) 21:20, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

I notice that you are having issues surrounding the competence of the above user and I know you are not the first I will when I am abel find you the other incident I am aware of of there being concerns regarding a lacking of competence of this user. I personally think this needs to be looked in to further because there are serious and ongoing concerns regarding the competence fo this user. Sparkle1 (talk) 22:33, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Here is the other place I knew I had seen your exact concerns raised before. Sparkle1 (talk) 22:58, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Dear Sparkle 1,

This was a while ago. I was talking with Giant Snowman, a very experienced and beneficial editor, I was wondering why my edits were reverted and had received no explanation. Scientelensia (talk) 23:25, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

I want to agree with Scientelensia that was quite a while ago, and I have had no followup concerns in that area. In fact, that was one of my first forays in to WP:AE, and the outcome was perhaps more harsh than necessary. Still looking at the issue at User talk:Scientelensia, but I hope they are not being too harshly treated because of an earlier foray in to GENSEX topics, when they were a very new editor. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:17, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

No, this is related to soccer - just overkeen editing, I think/hope. GiantSnowman 19:55, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

Over on Scientelensia's talk now; hope it works out, and for over here, I think it might help if Sparkle1 focused on another editor. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:30, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi GS. That repeat link in Tom McGill's stats table is highly irregular. And if you were consistent you'd also link all the occurrences of "Premier League" and "League Two" in the table. Robby.is.on (talk) 17:56, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

I disagree; in my experience it's standard to keep the club linked (as in the infobox) but the league not, presumably on the basis that the latter changes more than the former. GiantSnowman 18:57, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello! You've reverted my edit on Marcus Dackers page recently. I think i've done everything right according soccerway source. May i ask you what exactly was wrong?Martinklavier (talk) 19:29, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying you were updating as per Soccerway - that was not clear from your edit, and you did not update the stats table total either. I've hopefully sorted, thanks! GiantSnowman 19:32, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 20:06, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi GiantSnowman, Re your message to me, equally respectfully, you have not explained why you have reinstated information about his age that is not supported by the sources.

I didn't intentionally add any of those erroneous links directly (I accept they happened due to my reversion of your changes but they were already there before my initials edits). I feel the changes I made yesterday were good and justified and provided a better article than what was there before and what you have reverted it to. The article had a better logical structure, the 2006 vote had its own section which, given its importance in his career, was justified, and I removed confusion about this age - stated as 86 or 87, when the info box gave his precise dates of birth and death and both sources clearly said was 86, so there was no need for the confusion or for it to be replaced. Also, the reference to him being a 'flying Scotsman' added nothing to the article and was out of place/irrelevant to the section it was in. Neilinabbey (talk) 14:03, 9 March 2023 (UTC) Neilinabbey (talk) 14:12, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Then simply make the age amendments only, and move the reference elsewhere in the article rather than deleting it. GiantSnowman 14:29, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

The reference is not properly sourced - the link is dead - and the article is badly written, being confusingly and illogically ordered. It needs rewriting properly, which I am trying to do. Perhaps you could stop reverting my changes and take a look at the finished article instead, when I have had a chance to make these necessary changes. Neilinabbey (talk) 14:41, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

A dead link can be saved at archive.org - do not delete. Your edits have been reverted, I suggest you make your proposals on the talk page. GiantSnowman 14:43, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Please see proposed rewrite on the talk page. I honestly think you are getting a little bogged down in concerns about links here and not seeing the bigger picture, which is why you keep reverting to a version that is riddled with errors that I am trying to remove.Neilinabbey (talk) 15:16, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

You ask me why I added a citation request - it's because at the time I added it, the cited source made no mention of him being appointed Order of Merit and so there was no evidence at that time to support the claim that he received it. You really are being extremely unhelpful and obstructive to someone who is clearly trying to improve the article - why don't you try offering positive support instead of constant negativity? Neilinabbey (talk) 17:14, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

I have been helping you clean the article up. GiantSnowman 18:05, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

You have not, you have been reverting improvements and not making any constructive or helpful suggestions, just negative comments. Your understanding of being helpful and the psychology of interactions is woefully lacking.Neilinabbey (talk) 19:39, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Yes, you're absolutely right, here's some diffs of me not doing anything constructive - organising chronologically, adding a reference - all negative. GiantSnowman 19:46, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

You clearly have absolutely no idea about teaching or coaching methods.

1) I organised it chronologically, you just reverted it and then took what I did and made it your own edit.

2) You simply reverted all my edits more than once

3) You repeatedly undid edits of mine that were perfectly good and improved the article

4) You leave unhelpful, negative comments like "Why are are you adding 'fact' tag to sourced content?" when that was a perfectly reasonable thing to do given that the sourced content made no mention of what it was supposed to be supporting.

A HELPFUL person would have said something like "You clearly want to improve this article, thank you - however, some of these changes could be done differently" or "have you considered doing it this way?" or "here's another/better way to do it". Instead, you chose a negative, unconstructive approach of simple reversion guaranteed to get people's backs up and then just undid every positive change. Before 'helping' someone again, I suggest you het some help in how to do it, because your arrogant approach and attitude is having the completely opposite effect. Try learning from a teacher or coach.Neilinabbey (talk) 22:24, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

I'm not your teacher or coach and I'm not trying to be. You made a number of poorly explained edits that made little sense, and required much work on my behalf to try and work out what you were attempting. When I worked that out I helped. There's probably been an AGF failure on both parts and so for that I apologise, but your continued bad attitude and accusations of arrogance are not welcome here. Per WP:VANDAL, one should never refer to an editor's WP:GOODFAITH edits as vandalism. You owe me an apology for that. Skyerise (talk) 16:21, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

I apologise. GiantSnowman 16:32, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

Thank you. I'll also thank you not to revert me on Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biography. I was involved in various discussions creating the guideline: much of the wording is mine. If people such as yourself choose to misinterpret the usually I wrote for conciseness, I am allowed to make it stronger per the original intent. Skyerise (talk) 16:36, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

No, you're not. You are trying to OWN a guideline. GiantSnowman 16:37, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Skyerise (talk) 16:39, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

I suggest you self-revert your removal of tags as that places you over 3 reverts in 24 hours on two different articles. Skyerise (talk) 16:50, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

I disagree I have breached 3RR, but I have self-reverted to try and calm the situation. I suggest you also stop editing these articles, and move on elsewhere. GiantSnowman 16:53, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Giantsnowman

I wanted to discuss your recent revert of my edit of Billy Forbes. Is your stance that we should not include "non-FIFA" caps and appearances? I (although I love NFT) think that NFT's arbitrary use of "FIFA" and "Non-FIFA" designations is often flawed, but even more so in the case of this player. Forbes has a WCQ goal and nine CNL goals and yet his "official" goal count is four? I understand some of those goals were against a non-FIFA member(Sint Maarten, 4) but should that really make them statistically irrelevant when they were in an official CONCACAF tournament?--Gri3720 (talk) 19:28, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

No, we should not include any unofficial games. That's not to say that NFT is correct here, it is occasionally wring, but in the absence of any other sources providing confirmation of stats... GiantSnowman 19:31, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

So we should follow a source that we are certain is wrong? Perhaps I will find sources for each individual goal. It is not usually a big deal but he is TCA's all-time scorer so there's added importance.--Gri3720 (talk) 19:59, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Are we certain it's wrong though? GiantSnowman 20:02, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

We know he scored the goals he scored. We can verify that independently from other sources. I think we as a community can take his raw data and make our own determination of what is official and what isn't.--Gri3720 (talk) 20:25, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

No, that is WP:OR/WP:SYNTH. GiantSnowman 22:02, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

I knew you were going to say that haha, though I don’t know if simply counting can really be considered original research.--Gri3720 (talk) 00:12, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

You're repeated violating our BLP policy, specifically WP:BLPDOB. I'm happy to stop reverting, but then I will take it to WP:BLPN. You have to add the footnote when you restore the date. It's policy. Skyerise (talk) 19:54, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

Please feel free to take this to BLPN, WP:BOOMERANG applies. GiantSnowman 19:55, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

There is no boomarang for enforcing WP:BLP. You'll see. Notice posted. Skyerise (talk) 20:04, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

FYI, edits made to enforce our BLP policies are exempt from edit-warring complaints, per WP:BLPREMOVE. Skyerise (talk) 20:14, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

But that is not what you are doing and you know it. GiantSnowman 20:15, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

No, this is one of the things I do. Funny, nobody complains when I work to improve the articles of writers, scientists, archeologists, even cricket and rugby players. Nobody has complained but you, actually. Other editors either leave it, if they don't know a source, or cite it, if they do. Strange that a footballer should not know how to engage in teamwork. Don't believe me? Check my edit history. Skyerise (talk) 22:11, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

Mike Selinker (talk) 23:59, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

You accused me of vandalism, undid my edits and then did the same edits that I had done. Why? Are you a gatekeeper to the page that doesn't like it when other people edit? Djamck (talk) 08:20, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Because this edit was nonsense. You changed the England international stats and your changes to the club stats table did not make any sense. GiantSnowman 08:40, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

The England stats were a mistake, which I corrected immediately after. If you compare your last version to my last version there are only a few additions to what I missed as I have not done that type of edit before.

You would do better to provide constructive criticism and encouragement when someone tries to update the page rather than calling it 'nonsense' and accusing them of vandalism, when this is clearly not the case.

It would be nice if you apologised and took that back to be honest. You could have just put in the few missing pieces as a collaborative effort rather than making accusations. Djamck (talk) 08:49, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

You have been told about editing stats before. GiantSnowman 08:50, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

The first time I missed the last update, which I did not miss this time. I missed a few other things as it was only the second time. Wikipedia is supposed to be collaborative. All you had to do was add the missing bits and then I could see. There was no need to revert or make accusations.

"You have been told about editing stats before" <-- this is also completely unnecessary. Why are you not inclusive and helpful. Why can you not admit you were wrong to make accusations of vandalism? Djamck (talk) 08:56, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Your edits were not constructive. Now that you have explained what you were trying to do, I apologise. However, please bear in mind that WP:CIR applies. GiantSnowman 08:57, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Ok, thank you. Noted about competence - if I try again, I will do my very best not to miss anything. I am sorry missing the competence these first two times. Djamck (talk) 09:02, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi GiantSnowman. I was perusing Wikipedia:Database reports/Possibly out-of-process deletions and wondered if you wouldn't mind explaining why you deleted Marcos Caballero. There doesn't seem to be a reason in the log, and I can't think of any deletion criteria that would apply (G4, for instance, only applies to version that are "substantially identical" to what was deleted). I'm also a bit concerned that you might be involved considering that you had !voted delete in the AfD discussion. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 22:35, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

It was deleted at AFD and then re-created as a redirect to the Sportivo Ameliano, the club he played for. That was not the AFD consensus, and is not a standard ATD outcome, so I deleted it. I thought I had selected G6 when I deleted it but obviously not, sorry. GiantSnowman 21:35, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the response. I'm not quite convinced that deletion was appropriate here, so I've opened a DRV discussion—feel free to participate at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2023 March 25#Marcos Caballero if you'd like. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 03:14, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

The only discussion so far on the talk page above has been opened for three weeks. Based on the discussion that I have read just now which obviously has agreement from you and Ampimd should, by theory, be the initial creator of the article, I'd say it shouldn't be too long to merge both page histories and some of the content together.

I was actually expecting the page move from draft to mainspace at various points last year instead of what actually happen. I'm definitely aware you have many potential articles currently in your user space and other people probably aren't aware of that. Hi GiantSnowman. Would you mind taking a look at Luton Town U18? I believe this is a good-faith attempt to create an article by a new user, but it's completely unsourced (at least at the moment) and doesn't look at if it would meet WP:GNG. The parent club appears to be Luton Town F.C.; so, maybe at information about its U18 team could or should be added there. FWIW, I came across this via WP:MCQ#hello. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:00, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

Articles on youth teams can be notable, see e.g. Manchester United F.C. Reserves and Academy, but in the absence of any sources to show that the Luton Town U18 team is notable, I have redirected to the parent article. GiantSnowman 09:02, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for looking at this. Is there a boilerplate message that can be left on the user talk pages of those you create articles that end up being redirected like happened in this case? It might help the user and stop them from trying to recreate the article in someway. Perhaps, if they want, the content can be moved to the draft namespace where they can continue working on it, and then they can submit it to AfC when they think its ready. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:02, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

There are template messages at Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace, I can't see any that immediately jump out. If none are suitable then let me know and I'll leave a bespoke one. GiantSnowman 10:07, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

I replied to the creator's MCQ post and also mentioned why the article was redirected. Hopefully, that will suffice, but they might come around looking for more a more detailed explanation. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:33, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

Hey GS, hope you're enjoying your holiday. Just a quick one that I was looking for your opinion on. Arat Hosseini is only nine, but (in my opinion) has garnered significant coverage throughout his career so far. I note that the page was deleted in June 2020, and set so that only administrators can create it, but I see similarities between Hosseini and Sonny Pike, in that they are both footballers whose youth careers have been heavily profiled. If Hosseini goes on to have an actual career in football, then he'll most likely garner standard coverage, but if he does drop out of football, then it'll be another case like Pike, where more articles will surface about "wasted potential", etc.

I think most significant of all the articles on Hosseini is this from FIFA themselves, while I have also found , amongst others. Let me know what you think. Davidlofgren1996 (talk) 21:10, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

For every notable Pike, there is a non-notable Rhain Davis - so I suggest you create a draft to give us a better idea of lasting notability? GiantSnowman 11:27, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi @GiantSnowman, Since Tom Williams made his last (competitive) appearance for Hashtag United in February 2020, yet he stayed on as a coach through at least the pre-season of the 2021/22 season, and he hasn't played for any other team since then, and at the grand age of 42, I had presumed that he had retired, even though I don't believe that he had announced anywhere that he retired. I also can't find any source that announced his retirement. I am sure that he is not a coach at Hashtag United now, as I can't find any mention of him from after 2021, and he does not feature on the staff page of their website. In May 2022 Williams tweeted a shrugging emoji in response to someone saying that 'he may have retired', so he might not have done, but I believe that that might have been in jest. I am not sure why you have removed Williams' league statistics from his infobox, as there is quite a fair amount of coverage of each Hashtag United game and therefore his 25 appearances and 3 goals are easily verifiable. I also apologise for writing that he is English in his introduction, that was an obvious mistake on my behalf. As it says on my user page, 'feel free to call me out on anything I have done/got wrong', I thank you for reverting my edit, as I made mistakes that I should not have made, you make Wikipedia a better place! Either the list is outdated for omitting women's professionalization, or it shouldn't list women's association football for only Denmark. What's the goal? If Draft:Professionalism in women's association football moves forward, would it make sense to then take Denmark's women out of Professionalism in association football? -Socccc (talk) 19:06, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

If/when the draft goes live, you can remove it and add a link to the women's page - although it would be more useful to include women in the main article, rather than a separate article. GiantSnowman 19:07, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

"... it would be more useful to include women in the main article, rather than a separate article." That seems exceptional? If men's association football and women's association football have separate histories and different timelines of professionalization, and Wikipedia more broadly divides articles into men's and women's football as separate sports, why would it be more useful for the content on specifically professionalization to be merged into one article? This doesn't seem to happen at other levels or types of similar content, from the high levels of association football and women's association football having separate articles and separate high-level navigation in {{Association football}} and {{Women's association football}}, to more granularly separate articles for men's and women's sides of the same clubs, to explicitly separated list articles on men's and women's clubs, men's and women's national teams, and men's and women's players, etc. -Socccc (talk) 20:21, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi there, I see you have removed Wali Nimat from the name text on the Mariam-uz-Zamani page. Mariam Zamani wasn't her name, it was her imperial title, her name was Wali Nimat Begum given to her by her husband post-marriage. Her husband, Akbar too held the title of Khadija-ul-Zaman but that didn't become his name. Women of his seraglio were always referred to by some epithet or place of their birth and highest ranking women, like Akbar's mother and his chief consort were referred to by their titles like Mariam Makani and Mariam Zamani. In case the namespace is meant to write just the short name, it seems more sound to mention Wali Nimat Begum than Mariam Zamani. Her name can be confirmed from her edict which you can find in the Tirmizi book or Khulasat-ut-Tawarikh.

Kindly do let me know your thoughts on it so that we can come up with something decisive unanimously. Nush1125 (talk) 11:07, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

The article is 'Mariam-uz-Zamani' and so the name in the infobox should be 'Mariam-uz-Zamani'. GiantSnowman 12:08, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello GS. I noticed that an IP removed the controversy section from the Dani Ceballos article sometime in March, even though the incidents are properly sourced. Many athletes have controversy sections, and I don't understand why Dani's should suddenly be removed. If it's indeed an incorrect removal, could you restore the section somehow... that is, if you have time to do so of course. Speun (talk) 15:36, 29 May 2023 (UTC)

It wasn't a "blind revert", it was putting back the text of quote you changed. I know you probably already know this, but even if you're using a tool, you need to check that you aren't changing something that shouldn't be changed. Thanks - SchroCat (talk) 09:17, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

No, it was, because I had to partially revert to restore the day tag update... GiantSnowman 17:48, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Which makes zero difference compared to changing the wording of a quote. If you want to think my revert was a “blind revert”, it was a response to a “blind edit”. Be more careful in future please. - SchroCat (talk) 18:24, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi there GS,

i come to you for assistance because i do not know how to deal with this. IP keeps vandalising stats (inflating goals), then uses a misleading summary saying they're just "correcting" height when they're vandalising that too!

Attentively, continue the great work 193.137.135.5 (talk) 11:46, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi AL. I'm not GS but I have time to comment. This looks like a good-faith disagreement. Can the discrepancy in the numbers be explained by counting league only versus counting other competitions as well? Perhaps that can be talked through? Do sources disagree over the player's height? Can that be discussed?

Calling the other editor "lousy vandal" in your first revert is very poor form and does very little to avoid conflict and a combative attitude. Robby.is.on (talk) 12:33, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

I agree @Robby.is.on: (with my heated summary). The height can be a topic for discussion as it differs from link to link (but the one in box gives him 1.89), but the stats are definitely being vandalised, per this simple math exercise: do you know how many cup goals Mr. Carter scored ALL countries accounted for? THREE, one in Portugal, one in Thailand and another in Australia (and goals for Viseu are being "corrected" from 14 to 20!)! What am i to make of this (and because the IP says "Check offical page of his club 192 stats are incorrect in Portoguse websites" it has to be true? I'm long past the AGF stage)? --193.137.135.5 (talk) 12:57, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Here is the link the IP was telling me to go to (https://udoliveirensesad.pt/jogador/anthony-carter/). Sure, height is 1,92 there, but do you see ANY stats? --193.137.135.5 (talk) 13:03, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Revert, warn, report - as I have told you before. If the height is disputed, remove it completely. GiantSnowman 18:18, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Sure enough, stats and height vandalised again (a fellow user reverted former, i the latter). I assume ZERO good faith of this. --RevampedEditor (talk) 23:05, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

• Just checked the article's talk page, where without any source presented as proof (and i do remind you the height currently HAS a source, at least i tried like hell to improve article every since i first started editing it in 2022, adding tons of sources) i was called "dumb as ..." for adding the CORRECT stats! --RevampedEditor (talk) 23:27, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Just used the article's talk to reply, politely and to the point. Good evening --RevampedEditor (talk) 23:34, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Used the source from his new club's official site and changed the height, to accommodate the IP after being severely insulted. Now, would like to see some respect back (not just to me, to WP in general) and see stats left alone (LEAGUE only is what we should do, right?) --RevampedEditor (talk) 01:59, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

Yes, league stats only in the infobox. GiantSnowman 07:19, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

The IP just went to the article's talk again. More goading, and also accused me of playing with people's futures because i only insert league stats in the box. Even though i inserted their preferred height to show teamwork, read nothing regarding that, only more accusations.

End of the interaction for me (but if you could drop a line there that would be neat), cheers! --RevampedEditor (talk) 10:02, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

• Please see this update (I do not seem to be able to put the diff properly here, but it's at the very end of the text, sentence beginning with "Ok so what happens if I can get in contact..."), now we are being threatened with (a sort of) legal action, or just plain threatened! I refuse to engage in further conversation with this IP. Attentively --RevampedEditor (talk) 08:18, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi Giant Snowman, I have run into an formatting problem trying to edit the Crystal Palace first team squad!! Could you or someone please correct the formatting errors. Many thanks Kenneth Wyatt Kenneth Wyatt (talk) 07:34, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Glad it's sorted, let me know if anything else crops up. GiantSnowman 19:12, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Thank you GS. Well i was ok until about 10 minutes ago! Someone called Paul Vaurie has decided to revert the squad back to 15 March on the basis that players contracts don't officially end until 30 June!!! So all of the previous "out on loans" are back on the page!! Even though they have long since returned!! Also Lokonga has appeared back in our squad!!! I think it is a bit petty when it is only 3 weeks away from those official loans ending ( plus Luka and Jimmy Mac have said their goodbyes). Also find it strange that Nascimento and Wells-Morrison are listed in the squad ( I don't think Nascimento has ever played a first team game??). I thought the squad reverts back to the definite first team players (0ver 21) who are still at the club until the new squad is announced in August. I thought that was what we had always done? Apologies if i have that wrong Kenneth Wyatt (talk) 21:42, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

loan players should 'return' as the season is over - but new permanent players will not sign until 1 July, and released players will not leave until 30 June. GiantSnowman 13:48, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi GS, yes I agree regards loan players out, it is ridiculous to see 10 loan players listed again. Ok yes Jimmy Mac and Luka can stay there until 1st July, likewise Jefferson Lerma does not appear for us until the same date. But it has been raised by others on the Palace talk page regarding how accurate ( inaccurate the main Palace website is ). Nascimento has never played for the first team, only a friendly in December. Rodney and Wells-Morrison were on the bench for a league cup tie last October. The website I agree with the others is wrong. We should look at accuracy rather than website says no ( or yes!)- a bit like computer says no!!!!! I do think that in the past once we reach the 1st July the squad reverts back to what I showed the other day ( first team players that qualify for the 25 man squad) the ones that are left, and then we add new signings and the under 21s are filtered in as the season progresses ( but the website needs to reflect actual first team appearances, not warming benches for league Cup games or even worse with Nascimento not even warming a bench). Many thanks again for your kind input. Maybe something you could discuss with other admin? Kenneth Wyatt (talk) 14:11, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi, GS~ How have you been?

I am in severe dispute with some user in List of military special forces units article.

Not football, maybe military is not your area of expertise.

But It's OK. Issue is very simple.

Some western news outlets announced fake news about Quick Maneuver Force of Republic of Korea Marine Corps.

Some user believe that this fake news are reliable and used as sources in the article.

In order to the correct wrong information and I inquired and received official answer from Republic of Korea Marine Corps.

This is the screenshot of official answer from ROKMC - answer from website version and answer from document version

I verified that sources from western news outlets are fake news.

But this user didn't accept this official answer. Because this screenshot have possibility of forgery via photoshop and violation of sourcing guidelines.

Most users are interested in finding accurate information. But this user is somewhat unusual. I've never seen a case like this.

This user seems to be an administrator. Can you arbitrate in a dispute?

Hello GiantSnowman. It has come to light to me recently that Don Eadier, Catford Massive, and Kenneth Wyatt are all abusive sockpuppets of each other, at least from what I can tell. I need help opening an investigation, which I do not know how to do. All three accounts have been focused on the same specific subject of the Crystal Palace F.C. squad across their entire editing careers. Don Eadier was the first account to open a debate on the talk page of Crystal Palace F.C., calling the official website of CPFC a "disgrace". The user's writing style is also extremely similar to the ones of Kenneth Wyatt and Catford Massive, using excessive exclamation marks everywhere. In this discussion that Don Eadier started, Catford Massive then responded in complete agreement with Don Eadier in a way of writing that was almost identical, with a lack of commas and excessive exclamation marks after every sentence. Although it was Kenneth Wyatt that complained to you (above) that I changed the Crystal Palace squad per the website, it was then Catford Massive that reverted my aforementioned edit, and who came to explicity complain on my talk page. I honestly think it's clear as day that Don Eadier and Catford Massive are just sockpuppets of Kenneth Wyatt, and the extremely similar editing patterns suggest it. I think you know that I am a reliable editor, and I reveal all this in good faith. I trust you to take appropriate steps in this matter. Thank you GS and happy editing! Paul Vaurie (talk) 22:46, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi Paul. Are you looking for Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations? It has instructions ("How to open an investigation:"). Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:04, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on:That helps. Now, I also wanted to notify GiantSnowman as he did interact with one of the sockpuppets above. Paul Vaurie (talk) 17:57, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on: and GiantSnowman: I have put in an investigation here with all the evidence I could find. Please take a look if you will. Thanks. Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:11, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

I would strongly recommend cutting down on text. It is too much to read for clerks. In my experience, a lot less evidence and explaining suffices. See these two recent examples of reports: 1, 2. Robby.is.on (talk) 19:19, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on: I have provided a short summary on the investigation there. If you would like to contribute (although I'm not sure how these investigations really work), then please do. Paul Vaurie (talk) 21:28, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi Mr Snowman, Pageviews indicate that there isn't really a primary topic anymore for Alex Pearce, especially this year when the Aussie has become the captain of his club. But where should the "born in England, played all his club football in England, but has represented Scotland and Ireland internationally" player be moved to? Alex Pearce (English footballer), Alex Pearce (Irish footballer) and Alex Pearce (Scottish footballer) all seem wrong. A quick search seems to indicate that Alex Pearce (British footballer) would be unusual, but to me is the most accurate, concise and unambiguous. We could of course go to Alex Pearce (footballer, born 1988), but I really don't like doing that as no one really ever knows birth years so it's not as natural a disambiguator as nationality. The-Pope (talk) 14:41, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

Year of birth is actually usually preferred to nationality; the latter can change, the former does not. GiantSnowman 16:35, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

Hello!

I recently noticed that the search term "Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium" redirects to Kapital Bank Arena. It's clear from Google Maps that these are two separate stadiums and it's unclear to me why the redirect is there, as Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium is the much larger of the two.

As far as I can tell, it's a bit like City of Manchester Stadium redirecting to Manchester Regional Arena.

But I'm unsure of the protocol around previously moved pages and I'm also struggling to find Azerbaijani sources on the matter.

Can you advise on how best to resolve the issue? Should I take it to redirects for discussion, perhaps? Or do I need to find some proper sources before taking things further?

Thanks! MarchOfTheGreyhounds (talk) 13:28, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

I think WP:BEBOLD and overwrite the redirect. GiantSnowman 18:15, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

I think we can physically block you from certain individual articles, but not a whole topic area, especially not one so wide. GiantSnowman 09:04, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Anyway, I'm still not sure whether I mustn't actually edit these pages. Wikipediæ philosophia (talk) 14:57, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi - hoping this finds you well. I'm concerned about the English language competence of an editor. I reverted a bunch of edits on 15 June to Championnat National which purported to concern the history of the competition, but actually covered details of future plans

Since then I've noticed a lot more edits from this user on my watchlist. Whilst they do a lot of table/infobox edits, anything with prose needs attention, the following being examples from the first page of their contributions .

How do we approach a user whose English language is not sufficiently developed to write meaningful prose? Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 11:05, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Leave them a message about WP:CIR and if they continue we can escalate to ANI. GiantSnowman 12:44, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Hello GS! Sorry for disturbing. Multiple times we reached an agreement on not adding any post 1992 olympic honors to the senior squad first teams, as it's now a youth tournament. It was brought up twice recently on footballproject, with every single regular agreeing to remove them. An IP on the Spain national football team keeps adding post 1992 medals without explanation. I left a message on their talkpage, but the IP seems unwilling to communicate. I don't want to participate in edit warring, so I don't think I should revert it again. IP will most likely revert you as well if you try to remove it... what should be done here? Speun (talk) 14:31, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

Have you linked them to the WT:FOOTBALL discussions? I will warn you both for edit warring, and restore the stable version, and if they revert me, I will block them. You need to discuss on the article talk page. GiantSnowman 15:59, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

I will try to find it in the archive and them to it. Thank you so much! Yeah that seems fair. I honestly kind of forgot about the 3 revert rule. I realized my mistake and that's why I stopped reverting it at that point. I thank you again for your time. Speun (talk) 16:28, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

Hey @GiantSnowman: It happened again.. IP reverted it and with no explanation/communication as usual. Speun (talk) 17:45, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

I have reverted and blocked, thanks. GiantSnowman 20:53, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for your quick responses and actions. Much appreciated, GS! :) Speun (talk) 20:58, 23 June 2023 (UTC)

Your script-assisted fixes here unfortunately ended up violating MOS:ORDER, as well as the instructions at the template doc, by pushing the Short Description down below the date format. Was that maybe a bug in Ohconfucius's script? I don't know everything that it is supposed to do. I'll fix this one at least. David Brooks (talk) 21:35, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

Yes, that was the script, which will need amending... GiantSnowman 20:26, 27 June 2023 (UTC)

Turns out the bug has been around for a while. I re-uped it. David Brooks (talk) 15:39, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Have no idea how this can be stemmed, but IP continues to remove references from the infobox; in this article alone, THREE times have they pulled this stunt.

Just check out their talkpage, warned to and fro AND blocked! Attentively RevampedEditor (talk) 21:53, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Hey again GS. Sorry to disturb. You probably have hundreds of articles on your watch list, so I just wanted to make sure that you're aware that the same IP we discussed before, reverted your edits again without explanation. Speun (talk) 14:04, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

I suggest you raise their conduct at ANI, as I cannot re-block. GiantSnowman 14:05, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

Alright, will do, GS! This doesn't go under vandalism, does it? I never reported anyone before, so I'm not quite sure what category this falls under. Is it the edit warring noticeboard? Speun (talk) 18:37, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

WP:ANI is the admin incident noticeboard. It's repeated disruptive editing and edit warring from an IP already blocked once for it. GiantSnowman 18:39, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

You have participated in a similar discussion related to the same topic in the past and expressed that the discussion was hijacked by fans with new accounts with an agenda, hence why that long-established convention was ignored". Should I take this matter to the admins' noticeboard or should I wait a few more days for the response of admins and editors to who I already pinged to chime in with the ongoing discussion? There are ongoing WP:POINTY edits by this user across footballers, repeatedly changing wording around representation etc from common parlance to tediously specific "they represent a federation" while in discussion about those same sorts of edits. Koncorde (talk) 13:01, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

Thoughts on removal of the word "national" from various articles? Koncorde (talk) 12:11, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Disruptive and POINty, definitely. GiantSnowman 17:08, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman: I think a block would be in order for Frenchl. Repeated disruptive editing is persistent. Just in the past 24 hours, I have had to remove his disruptive addition of dashed and double nationalities from Ilyes Housni, Antony Robic, Syam Ben Youssef, Yann Boé-Kane, Skelly Alvero, Aïman Maurer, and Kévin Mouanga. I think a block is actually becoming urgent now before more pages are disrupted over and over again. Paul Vaurie (talk) 18:52, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2023%E2%80%9324_Saudi_Professional_League&action=history People keep adding inaccurate information to this page, as soon as any player name is linked to any club they add it as one of the foreign players (as example recently Marco Verratti, Riyad Mahrez) it is confusing and I dont know which players are really now playing in Saudi arabia.

I tried i posted the same at M.Bitton dont know if they can help as well

Hi Snowman, can you check this user Dollarsign14, this user is causing serious issues in multiple articles, doing unnecessary editwarring along with using twitter and romour source as editing and has serious concern since wrongly threatening users with you may be blocked in their edit summary. Drat8sub (talk) 21:11, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Do you have any diffs please? GiantSnowman 07:31, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

The user is very problematic, constantly adding unsourced materials in different football related articles. Updating stats, players based on rumours and jouno's or fan group twitter handle, many of which are changed frequently. Have very low understanding of RS and when to use twitter as source, aslo totally unexplained edits..zero edit summary, all of these making lot of confusions in many article. I am adding few differences here but most of the edits are problematic.

India national under-23 football team..below are repeated addition of unannounced squads of the NT team added by the user, even after addressed twice that once the federation announce any squad it can be uploaded but ignored.

Other articles where edits done with same unexplained and unsourced, based of twitters (most of which were not announced by clubs, league or federation at that moment neither reported in RS)

Only time the user used edit summary is to give false warning.

If you go through [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Dollarsign14 User contributions for Dollarsign14], you will only find unsourced and unexplained edits. The user has been warned and blocked multiple times but still seems don't even care to read guidelines or willing to have discussion. I even opened a thread at India U23 NT's talk page, but no response yet. Kindly, take some necessary steps, if you can. Drat8sub (talk) 15:46, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Yeah I know that, but you can use google translate or unprotect the page so the article gets created and later reviewed. FNH004 (talk) 18:46, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

The onus is on you to demonstrate notability, which you are not doing. GiantSnowman 18:47, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

dude most of my creations use Bengali news reports as sources and 95% of them get apporoved by admins. Would it be better if I translate the sources and give it to you or you could unprotect the page so the draft gets created into an article and another admin reviews it? Please lmk and Thanks. FNH004 (talk) 18:52, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

You just need to summarise the sources for non-Bengali speakers, to assess notability. GiantSnowman 20:36, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

Article 1 : This article basically covers his performances in the recently concluded domestic football season with Rahmatganj MFS and the reason why he was selected in the tem for the Asian Games in China. It gives information about his family members (specially his father) and his home home district. Acccording to the article he failed BKSP the enterance exams twice before eventually getting in. It also has info about his expirence playing for the Bangladesh U20 team in tournaments such as - 2019 SAFF U-18 Championship, 2020 AFC U-19 Championship qualification, 2022 SAFF U-20 Championship & 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualification.

Article 2: This one starts off with Tanvir giving his thoughts on being picked for the Asian Games sqaud. Like the previous article it has info about his time playing for the Bangladesh U20 and captaining them in different tournaments. His club career with both Saif SC and Rahmatganj MFS was also discussed, he even states that he wants to join a "bigger club" in the future.

Article 3: It has details about his family and his home district like the first article. Info bout how he joined BKSP and then how he got scouted by Saif SC. His expirence of playing (youth) international football his also mentioned like both previous articles. His performances for Rahmatganj last season was highlighted and he states his desire to play for the national team after the Asian Games.

Article 4: This article his basically him giving an interview after helping his team keep a cleansheet (as captain) against Bahrain U20 during the 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers. FNH004 (talk) 07:17, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Interviews are questionable (some people don't think they are significant) but overall that looks to be enough. I suggest you submit to WP:AFC for approval for mainspace, I have no opposition. GiantSnowman 14:22, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Ok, I have done that. Btw will the page be unprotected if the draft gets accepted? FNH004 (talk) 15:04, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Yes, it will - an admin will be able to move the draft to the mainspace. GiantSnowman 15:23, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Ok, thanks a lot FNH004 (talk) 15:25, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you! GiantSnowman 18:12, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

As expected the user did it again. Editing and adding an unannounced and unofficial squad in the article India national under-23 football team adding a source which itself saying probable. It seems to me a case of WP:IDHT and his persistent unexplained edit, zero edit summary is just unbearable. And no response from the user makes it more difficult now. I think a longer block is necessary, previous 24 and 72 hours seems futile now. Drat8sub (talk) 17:21, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

A source was added in this edit, what is the issue? GiantSnowman 18:13, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

For your clarification there will be two squad to be added in the article, one for Asian Games, which was announced yesterday and added, and another for U23 AFC Asian Cup Qualification. AIFF, the federation of football in India did not announce any official squad for AFC U23 Asian Cup qualification. Secondly, the source that is addded recently (removed now,my last edit in the article) is discussing who can be in the team for Asian Games as well as AFC U23, it is not a source of official or announced squad. The user has been made aware that a squad will only be added if such is announced by AIFF, otherwise various journalist will predict their own squad. And the edit that you mentioned above have a source which is also not a official announcement, the source itself revolves around a tweet by tweeter fan page IFTFWC. There is no official announcement of u23 team and most probably it will not be announced till mid August, since AIFF are yet to select a coach for the U23 AFC Qual team. In simple words the users adding sometimes, unsourced, unannounced and unofficial squads again and again. Drat8sub (talk) 04:52, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

yes a tweet was added, but also SportsKeeda? GiantSnowman 14:23, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

I am talking about the Sportskeeda only, the article is about discussing who the probable players could be in the team based on a tweet by a fan group mentioned within the article. First, its not RS, second it's speculation and opinionated. We only add official squad announcement by fed if I am not wrong. Drat8sub (talk) 15:23, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I have just noticed that the SportsKeeda article cited by Dollarsign here is about a 'probable' squad list. GiantSnowman 15:24, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

I have raised the matter at WP:ANI. GiantSnowman 15:27, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Do I need to add anything there? Drat8sub (talk) 15:33, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Feel free to do so if you wish. GiantSnowman 15:35, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Exactly, and this is nothing to do with the AIFF. I have addressed this several times to the user, but it seems he fail to understand, wikipedia is not a social media website that one add anything and everything that is published. I am sure, if it's not stopped, the user will again add a squad adding another source by another journalist. Drat8sub (talk) 15:28, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for the ANI. Drat8sub (talk) 15:31, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi, GiantSnowman. I wonder if you can point me in the right direction? I am a new member, although I have made occasional edits prior to joining. I am trying to find my way by following advice kindly provided by others and so I have completed many edits today when time has allowed. Unfortunately, I seem to have upset the editor using the IP address 2A02:908:4E3:9520:658F:3E79:11A4:C394. I saw in the news this morning that Xabi Alonso has extended his contract at Leverkusen. I thought that would be a useful piece to add to his article here. As it happened, someone else had already made the edit but had not provided a source, so I gave The Daily Star (Bangladesh) where I found it.

Later, the IP editor overwrote my citation with the Leverkusen club site which I thought is not independent, and so does not comply with site verification policy that I had been reading only an hour or so earlier. Having been advised to be bold and to act in defence of site policy, I undid that edit and explained why in the edit summary. The IP editor did not like that and I tried to compromise by having both sources. He doesn't like that either and insists that his citation is the only acceptable one and I must learn this and must not dare to do that!

This IP editor is without doubt the same one that you had to warn earlier in User talk:2A02:908:4E3:9520:2C6E:E875:F14F:6E70, which is why I am writing to you for advice. If he is right that only the club source should be used, I will accept that and use similar sources in future. If he is not right, then should I continue to be involved as I would risk being drawn into what you call an edit war? All I want to do is learn how to edit the site properly. I accept, of course, that there will be contention at times but I think issues should be handled individually and I would be pleased to have advice on how to handle this one. I am really not sure it is so important but I can see how things like this can get out of hand. My apologies for bothering you with this. Thank you. ManGoBangla (talk) 20:12, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Why not include both sources? Where possible, I tend to include an 'official' source (such as club or league) and an 'unofficial' source (such as reliable media - for me it's usually BBC). GiantSnowman 09:24, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you, GiantSnowman. I agree that two is a good number of sources. I will go back and restore my "compromise" edit which included both. ManGoBangla (talk) 09:38, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

Sounds good - any more issues please let me know. GiantSnowman 09:40, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you again. I have made the change. ManGoBangla (talk) 09:46, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi again, GiantSnowman. He is back and he has reverted again. He says one source is "more than enough" so presumably he thinks no sources are enough? He has left a message at Talk:Xabi Alonso. Could you take a look, please, and let me know what I should do? Thank you. ManGoBangla (talk) 13:53, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

Note: Edit warring warnings have been issued to both the parties regarding potential violation of 3RR. The Herald (Benison) (talk) 14:07, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

Having some problems with Frenchl again. User has been making half-disruptive half-constructive edits en masse for the past three days, especially today. I have gone back and fixed virtually every single disruptive thing they did in the past two days.
I don't know what needs to be done to somehow get them to stop making disruptive edits at this point. Recently, another disruptive addition of double nationality here, another here, another here, and unexplained removal of valid categories. Their recent disruptive trend has been to do this, which is changing "represented" to "played for", but at the same time adding redundant stuff and for some reason, specifying the exact city or region a player is from in the lede. This is what I mean by half-constructive, half-disruptive.
Frenchl needs constant supervision of their editing, which is really problematic. What needs to be done at this point? Is this grounds for reviving this, since the editor does indeed know that those three additions of nationality were disruptive according to consensus? Paul Vaurie (talk) 01:13, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

WP:CIR, WP:NOTHERE, and WP:POINT are my main problems with Frenchl's disruptive editing, especially the second one. There is no denying they are ultrafocused on one agenda of making everything about "nationality" the way they want. Paul Vaurie (talk) 01:19, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

Yes I think this is interesting to add informations about cities or regions of birth because reading "Born in France" in every article is really redundant and poorly informative. They sound like sentences written by a bot. I've checked some American politician's articles and their specific place of birth is mentionned almost all the time. Frenchl (talk) 01:32, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

I think take back to ANI - Frenchl has been told that those kind of edits are considered disruptive, and the removal of valid categories is another example of disruption. Clearly incompetent. GiantSnowman 08:13, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

It's not disruption: being "of Comorian descent" means the player does not have Comorian nationality. You cannot be both in the "Comorian footballers" category and in the "of Comorian descent" category. It's one or the other. Frenchl (talk) 08:52, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

No, it's not - once again you are trying (on your own) to change a long-standing standard. GiantSnowman 09:37, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

I think this is both a good-faith dispute and disruptive editing by a relatively new editor, not a matter of CIR or NOTHERE. Frenchl needs to slow down and gain consensus before making sweeping changes that go against existing conventions.

@Frenchl, Yes I think this is interesting to add informations about cities or regions of birth because reading "Born in France" in every article is really redundant and poorly informative. MOS:LEDE states: "In Wikipedia, the lead section is an introduction to an article and a summary of its most important contents." If a player represents a country at international level that is not their country of birth, that's relevant or notable information. The exact region or city is usually not important enough to be mentioned in the lede. If the reader wants to know the exact place they can read the body of the article.

@Frenchl, generally speaking, if you notice patterns across a wide range of articles – such as the repetitive phrase "born in X, they play for Y" – that you disagree with it's usually best to discuss this issue with others before going on an editing spree. Two good reasons: 1. you might otherwise see all your work undone by other editors, 2. other editors might otherwise find your changes disruptive. Robby.is.on (talk) 12:26, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

And a third reason: it might overwhelm certain user's watchlists which might make them unnotice earlier edits after they takes their eyes off Wikipedia for the day or similar. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 14:59, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

hey, i saw you set the hight of rodman according to a guardian article, contrary to taking the info given by the team she plays for. what is your reasoning? --ThurnerRupert (talk) 04:55, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Firstly, you removed the source entirely, even though it is used elsewhere in the article. Secondly, her height is disputed - some say 5 ft 6, most seem to say 5 ft 10/1.78m though. GiantSnowman 14:09, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

oh, "auto" is a real reference name, thanks for your good eyes. corrected. 5.6 for sure was true at one point :) --ThurnerRupert (talk) 15:49, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Why did you remove her current club, both from the infobox and the text, which had citations, albeit wrongly formatted? Her club is in fact AaFK, for whom she last played on 1 July (before the league took a World Cup break). See Geschichte (talk) 13:19, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

I didn't, at least not deliberately - it was just an older version that became the 'current' version when I performed the histmerge. GiantSnowman 14:08, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

The guy was astute enough to have harrassed me on social media, meaning that I know his full name and city. Is this useful information? Nehme₁₄₉₉ 17:01, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

no, not per WP:OUTING. GiantSnowman 17:07, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

@Nehme1499 - what are the chances that someone has managed to find you on social media - I suspect most Wikipedia users don't get harassed that way... Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 17:42, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

You'd be surprised... GiantSnowman 17:45, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

Indeed, some users do display information voluntarily, therefore social media harassment appears to be more likely but checking Nehme1499's user pages, that social media discovery probably seems very unlikely but somehow the Croatian IP found it. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 19:51, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

Hello, What is the best example of a correct clubs season page? I tried to mirror Chelsea and Arsenal pages, however from reading Football talk page discussions there is a lot of inconsistencies and different opinions on how those are done. I don't want to create pages that will be considered incorrect by the projects standards. I already know some sections will need to be deleted, like results by round. And statistics will be redone with {{Efs player}} template. Ceriy (talk) 12:22, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

regarding your edits on Nnedi Okorafor and Tomi Adeyemi. They are both Nigerian American writers not just American. Hi GiantSnowman hope you're well!

I wanted to ask you about the article Terry Smith (American football, born 1959).

It has been packed with irrelevant, uncited and unencyclopaedic content for a long time. I have tried removing this but it is being repeatedly readded by various users and IPs who appear to be closely tied to the subject. This stuff is readded every few weeks.

Looking through the edit history, this has been going on for years, long before I became involved.

Attempts to discuss on various talk pages have gone unanswered so far. Is it perhaps worth considering semi-protection or am I jumping the gun?

If you could give it a look when you have chance I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks. MarchOfTheGreyhounds (talk) 01:56, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

Hello GiantSnowman,

I’m reaching out as part of a Cornell University academic study investigating the potential for user-facing tools to help improve discussion quality within Wikipedia discussion spaces (such as talk pages, noticeboards, etc.). We wanted to invite you to join the study due to your prior involvement in Wikipedia discussion sections, most notably AfD. Discussions in this environment can often get contentious and involve a lot of back-and-forth, which is exactly the type of environment our study targets.

The study centers around a prototype tool, ConvoWizard, which is designed to warn Wikipedia editors when a discussion they are replying to is getting tense and at risk of derailing into personal attacks or incivility. More information about ConvoWizard and the study can be found at our research project page on meta-wiki.

If this sounds like it might be interesting to you, you can use this link to sign up and install ConvoWizard. Of course, if you are not interested, feel free to ignore this message.

If you have any questions or thoughts about the study, our team is happy to discuss! You may direct such comments to me or to my collaborator, Cristian_at_CornellNLP. Thank you for your consideration.

Will try, Thanks. ETA: found the previous discussion in the right place (bug reports}. David Brooks (talk) 15:59, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

pressure is not what I need, but the skills. Its easy placing stuff as he first line, but more difficult if you don't know what elements are there (there's no fixed list of obligatory items) between which you can move the template. Anyway for me, there are more pressing issues to deal with and more interesting projects to start. I also happen to know that as template reordering is a part of the general fixes in WP:AWB, there's a strong possibility that a gnome using the tool will perform a drive-by edit and will sort it at some point. Regards -- Ohc ^{revolution of our times} 19:13, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

@Ohconfucius: Ah, yes, now I recall the details of that discussion, and I apologize for mis-characterizing you above in a moment of weakness. But we are at an impasse; use of the script frequently causes a violation of MOS:ORDER (not just for Short Description) and it doesn't always get hand-corrected. I doubt the AWB genfix is easily to transmogrify to JS, especially given the many templates and their aliases involved. Perhaps a very special case for the commonest violations could be coded? Maintaining someone else's old code is usually a challenge, but I might take a look some time in the next couple of weeks - my JS coding has atrophied since I learned the language in 1997 though. David Brooks (talk) 21:22, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

@DavidBrooks: thanks for your understanding and offer of help. How would you like to proceed?-- Ohc ^{revolution of our times} 04:20, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Continued on your talk page. David Brooks (talk) 14:07, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks both. GiantSnowman 15:35, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi, rmb the draft I created-Draft:Tanvir Hossain? Could you please review it since I already explained the notable sources and u said it was good enough to get published. I made this draft for the upcoming Asian Games but it has not been reviewed on time since the tournament begins in a few days. So, I was hoping you would review it for me. Thanks. FNH004 (talk) 16:06, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

 Done. GiantSnowman 16:22, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

thanks a lot FNH004 (talk) 16:31, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Done, thanks. GiantSnowman 11:04, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Reverted edit with argument "Information is valid in both sections is valid". No it's not. And actually he doesn't even have a Scottish citizenship. Syvä-äksy (talk) 18:19, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

No, it is - or it would bet, if it was correct. The source does not verify the claim, and neither do others, so I have removed it. GiantSnowman 18:24, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi GiantSnowman, could you offer any more feedback on your revert of my edits at Matt Lam? I thought edits were relatively minor attempts to limit jargon, put WP:PROSELINE sentences into a paragraph, and add non-breaking spaces to dates. I'd like to know why you thought they were not improvements to the article. Thanks, Wracking ^talk! 18:31, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

You put maintenance templates into one line; added break spaces into prose which I don't think I have ever seen before; and re-organised in a way which was not beneficial with reading. GiantSnowman 18:40, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

Agree to disagree, but thanks for explaining. Wracking ^talk! 18:48, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello, GiantSnowman,

This is just a reminder that category redirects are created differently than article redirects. Please look at the code used on this category page in case you want to create another category redirect in the future. Thank you! Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 16:30, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Noted, thanks for the heads up! GiantSnowman 16:36, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

I semi-reverted the other user in the article's intro, re-adding the EXACT same wording you added here (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%C3%81lvaro_Cervera&diff=prev&oldid=1126143296). I see that i got it wrong also/again...

Attentively, have a nice weekend RevampedEditor (talk) 17:36, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

• On a (completely) unrelated note, check out Carlos Fortes (footballer, born 1994) if you will: do we have a sock (started editing as soon as the problematic account got blocked, in 100% the same topics)? I think we do! --RevampedEditor (talk) 17:46, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Good spot - blocked, thanks! GiantSnowman 18:23, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

if some users dont know about shared ip or inviting friends who edit jointly / correct edits are accepted / dont care who calls things "evasion" or has no clue how some ranges work, keep blocking anyone. sad boring group of typing machines......🤢💀 (few horrible editors who pick fake news or act upset when sources are challenged, amazing achievement. there are emerging better alternative places) 93.140.252.140 (talk) 02:38, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

What are you on about? GiantSnowman 07:56, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

What's the point of an edit like this? DuncanHill (talk) 10:59, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

See {{Use dmy dates}} - "the month and year that an editor or bot last checked the article for inconsistent date formatting" (my emphasis). GiantSnowman 11:03, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Ah, well I never knew that! One of those templates that doesn't say what it means, designed to fool the ordinary reader. If it said "checked" instead of "date" it would make sense. DuncanHill (talk) 11:28, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Yep, you're not the first to query it! GiantSnowman 11:47, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello, GiantSnowman,

I'm sorry for my exasperation at the suggestion of Redirecting/Merging articles to Nike football boots. I didn't check and see that it had only recently been made into a redirect. I've been closing a lot of deletion discussions lately and you might be surprised how frequently it gets suggested that an article be Merged to a Redirect or even to a nonexistent article. I have a script that shows Redirects in a different color font but I guess it is not commonly installed because even some editors who frequent AFD land suggest redirecting articles to other redirects.

I appreciate you reverting the edit and returning the article to an article state, such as it is. But I'm sorry if my exasperation at the suggestion seemed targeted at you. You have been a valuable participant in many AFD discussions, especially ones involving football players and teams, and I always take your opinions seriously. I think I was just working on the project too long that day. Liz ^{Read! Talk!} 03:36, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Don't worry, no offence or anything like that taken - apologies from myself if my responses seemed terse! GiantSnowman 18:00, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

GS, can you please have a look and/or drop an additional two cents here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Whisper4444#Infobox_statistics)? I see you already have warned this user several times. I did too back in the day, in a thread called "Player positions", seemingly to no avail.

Attentively RevampedEditor (talk) 15:23, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

I have left a message. GiantSnowman 18:01, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the input! Did not understand a single thing from the other chap's reply, I feel that language may be a (big) barrier! --RevampedEditor (talk) 11:56, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

This bit "I also update that I wanted to write you the participations of each player in and when it is not updated by anyone so that every user who enters can see it and is updated about the Player." (whatever that means!) seems to indicate they do intend to continue doing the same thing :( --RevampedEditor (talk) 15:49, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

Yes, WP:CIR applies, including in language. GiantSnowman 07:24, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Dear snowman, I usually keep eyes on south asian/India football related pages as you know, but did not notice the following vandalism. Today, an ip just vandalised the article of the ongoing tournament of 2023 SAFF U-19 Championship, and the edit remained there for almost 6 hours. I have just noticed and revert the vadalism but check the audacity of their commentary in the summary, they think this is something funny. Joke....dont ban edited with deliberate match info which is yet to hold tomorrow. Can you please block this ip. Thank you. Drat8sub (talk) 14:37, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

The ip is a Pakistani ip, which seems did this vandaism to make fun of Indian football and this also bring wikipedia in bad light as a Indian Youtube highlighted this on twitter. You can check here. Drat8sub (talk) 14:43, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Revert, warn, and then report at WP:AIV. GiantSnowman 15:50, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Did it already, range blocked. Asked you in any case actions not taken. Anyway thank you. Drat8sub (talk) 16:46, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi GS! I noticed your https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lassana_N%27Diaye&diff=1177902900&oldid=1177868556 edit here. As far as I remember you always insisted soccerway.com was the most reliable football website for international stats from recent decade. I believe you are refering to the nt youth stats. Other sites have more complete stats, but soccerway usually has the correct number of FIFA ans UEFA official stats. I did this by your recomendation long time ago, same thing regarding the honours and their sourcing which <i always supported you for. I know soccerway counts often short the nt youth stats, but at least they are reliable. Maybe I wasnt aware of some changes in last couple of years, but can you point me out then how could I have done this edit better and using which sources instead? Thanks GS, I just want you to know that I always try to be as perfect Wikipedian as I can, and you are one of mine editors I admire. FkpCascais (talk) 23:19, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

Soccerway stats are incomplete for youth international games. GiantSnowman 11:01, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

Well, we knew that since the very begining, but at least they follow the official games and tournaments. That is always better than nothing, or not? I gave soccerway priority ever since you insisted they were the most reliable site, and, in cases of youth nt stats, I used their data whenever a better one was not available. FkpCascais (talk) 19:58, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

Leaving blank is much better than incomplete stats. GiantSnowman 17:56, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

OK, but can I use the site for sourcing youth titles in tournaments and nt senior stats indicating calls ending in unused substitutes like here was the case? FkpCascais (talk) 18:57, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

Sure. GiantSnowman 18:59, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
