Adoption school

Hey, User:Howicus

I know i know, as if i couldn't be anymore annoying about the adoption school. Apologies. However, you ask me to revert edits and find prime examples of vandalism and good faith but unhelpful edits. Problem is, that's impossible. Thousands upon thousands of editors and Wikipedians are always doing that by the second. I don't think i will be able to do that. Also, i completed the vandalism section but i don't see passed.

Thanks, --Luis Santos24 (talk) 20:44, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Louis Santos24! If you don't plan on doing a lot of anti-vandal work, we could just skip that section. It can be hard to find vandalism to revert, yeah. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:19, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Hey User:Howicus. I actually do plan on it but as you said it's hard for that hands on stuff, just wondering what you had an idea to do, the wikipedia adventure highly interferes with this but i DO want to graduate this.

Thanks, --Luis Santos24 (talk) 15:05, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

Well, I find vandalism by repeatedly refreshing Special:RecentChanges or the user contributions for new accounts page. I'm usually able to find some fairly quickly. You could try looking at different times of day; the number of anti-vandal editors around varies. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 15:17, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

User:Howicus Most of my activity i end up doing on Recent Changes is encouraging hundreds of IP's to make accounts and welcoming new users. I've made my 17th article recently and i gave and recieved my first Barnstar today! You asked if there was a section i wanted to skip, i was wondering if we could do that for Five Pillars, it and a whole lot of other things were covered in the Wikipedia Adventure.

Thanks, --Luis Santos24 (Have a good day) 01:43, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
I just wanted to say thanks for giving me all that advice for naval articles. It helped. And now i have 19 articles. Thanks man. I know you've always said awards, ribbons and barnstars don't make you a good editor, and i'm not accustomed to giving barnstars to people, or receiving barnstars from people, but here you go for all the help. Luis Santos24 (Have a good day!) 01:23, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Gee, thanks :) Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:03, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

In Christianity, homosexuality is a sin. That has been the standard for centuries, and the current confusion on this subject by some militant folks has not changed that. In both the Old Testament, and in the New Testament, the plain teachings are that it is a sin. I hope the "Sodom and Gomorrah" experience clearly explains God's view on the issue. THEREFORE, to so that one is a Christian (Christ-like, or a Christ follower), AND to advocate an sinful practice (which homosexuality is one of many) is illogical and untruthful. Again, this newscaster claims to be a Christian will always be the correct answer.  Preceding unsigned comment added by M.sommars (talkcontribs) 17:06, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm following Wikipedia's policies, specifically the policy on verifiability. I can't find any reliable, independent sources talking about this Cyberpol, so Wikipedia should not talk about it either. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 16:15, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Did you have something to tell me about the gorilla photo?

I received an old April message, "Hello, Saenger. You have new messages at Howicus's talk page." I Searched my name in the Archives on your Talk Page, but couldn't find anything. Did you have a message for me after what I thought was your final message about the copyright for the photo baby gorilla sleeping on its parent? Saenger (talk) 16:39, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi Saenger. I left that message for you after my first response to your question. So no, you didn't miss anything :) Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:03, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestions on my draft on C David Marsden. What happens next-google still takes me to the 'deleted' pageNeuroranger (talk) 14:37, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi Neuroranger. First, you've made a typo in the template at the top. It's {{subst:submit}} with a 't'. Second, you should probably format all of your sources as inline citations, like the "media obituaries" you have now. This page describes the formatting in detail. How should I get started on Wikipedia? I've been going from page to page trying to find a page to add to or edit. but I haven't found to much, what should I do to contribute to Wikipedia? M1grand (talk) 02:04, 18 August 2015 (UTC)M1grand

Hi again M1grand. Hm, well, I got started with the WP:Community portal, which has lists of articles that need improvement with links to more. Maybe you'll find something there? Howicus (Did I mess up?) 03:01, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Can you copy an entire text from a corporate website and paste it as an article on Wikipedia?

I edited an article that had this problem, so I fixed it with new details and sources. Today, an experienced editor restored to an older version that repeated an entire text from a corporate website and paste it as an article. The article has 6 sentences. Three sentences are original and other three are from the corporate website. Here's the link for the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakthi_TV | This article has 3 sentences from it's corporate website: http://www.capitalmaharaja.com/index.php/our-companies/mtv-channel.html Rdelano7 (talk) 23:39, 19 August 2015 (UTC) Rdelano7 (talk) 23:39, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Rdelano7. I'd suggest you remove the copied sentences, and say that they're a copyright violation in the edit summary. I don't think the editor who reverted you realized that you were removing copyrighted content. Any content you want to add, I'd suggest doing in a separate edit. Also, unfortunately one of your sources, , is actually just a re-print of a press release from YuppTV (which I can't directly link because it's on the blacklist; it's the first result here. So, it's not independent, and you should not use it as a source. Hope this helps! Howicus (Did I mess up?) 00:34, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Just monitoring this article, google still doesn't link it to the article. Any idea how long before I can let people know that the great man is now on Wikipedia?Neuroranger (talk) 21:58, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

If I may @Neuroranger:, I will respond on behalf of Howicus - your article was still a draft article and was not therefore indexed by Google. It is clear that he was a notable scientist, and I have therefore copy-edited the article and published it. I expect it will be picked up by Google in due course, but that isn't something we have any control over. Best regards. --  22:36, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

VisualEditor update

This note is only delivered to English Wikipedia subscribers of the visual editor's newsletter.

The location of the visual editor's preference has been changed from the "Beta" tab to the "Editing" section of your preferences on this wiki. The setting now says Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta. This aligns en.wiki with almost all the other WMF wikis; it doesn’t mean the visual editor is complete, or that it is no longer “in beta phase” though.

This action has not changed anything else for editors: it still honours editors’ previous choices about having it on or off; logged-out users continue to only have access to wikitext; the “Edit” tab is still after the “Edit source” one. You can learn more at the visual editor’s talk page.

We don’t expect this to cause any glitches, but in case your account no longer has the settings that you want, please accept our apologies and correct it in the Editing tab of Special:Preferences. Thank you for your attention, Elitre (WMF) -16:32, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Rouhani Edits

You have no right to delete my claim that Hassan Rouhani was one of the hostage takers during the Iranian hostage crisis. You simply don't have any evidence to rebut my plausible claim.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Freedomsforiran (talkcontribs) 22:30, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello Freedomsforiran. On Wikipedia, the burden of proof is on the person who is adding content. You want to say that he was a hostage taker, so you must provide a reliable, independent source to support the claim. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 22:37, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

It's been proven. He was a hostage taker. End of story.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Freedomsforiran (talkcontribs) 22:42, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia content must be verifiable. Where exactly was this proven, Freedomsforiran? Could you cite specific sources? Howicus (Did I mess up?) 22:44, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

MOS:IDENTITY is being revisited: How should Wikipedia refer to transgender individuals before and after their transition?

You are being contacted because you contributed to a recent discussion of MOS:IDENTITY that closed with the recommendation that Wikipedia's policy on transgender individuals be revisited.

Two threads have been opened at the Village Pump:Policy. The first addresses how the Manual of Style should instruct editors to refer to transgender people in articles about themselves (which name, which pronoun, etc.). The second addresses how to instruct editors to refer to transgender people when they are mentioned in passing in other articles. Your participation is welcome.
