Question from Nkosi sbongakonke on Mathematical Kangaroo (14:23, 22 September 2025)

Hello how and when can I start --Nkosi sbongakonke (talk) 14:23, 22 September 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Nkosi sbongakonke, I noticed IntentionallyDense seems to be taking a wikibreak right now. Feel free to reach out to me on my talk page if you would still like help with learning to edit. IAWW (talk) 21:43, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you @It is a wonderful world, I’m happy to see you doing more things with newer editors (such as a GAN backlog drive that i believe you helped coordinate awhile back, my memory is hazy) as I have always noticed you had a lot of potential for encouraging new editors. I forgot to adjust my mentor settings to state I would be unavailable for longer hence the questions.

This is presented to you by the GAR process in recognition of your sterling work in helping Alcoholism retain its Good Article status. Please feel free to display the GA icon on your userpage. Keep up the good work! ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 20:56, 28 September 2025 (UTC)

Question

How are you, mate? I was wondering if you want to review Hunter Schafer, it's at FA. HSLover/DWF (talk) 17:20, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

I’m not sure how i missed this… unfortunately i’m pretty tied up in other commitments (see coeliac disease, epilepsy, major depressive disorder) which are time consuming and my time for Wikipedia has decreased. As much as i would have loved to help i’ve been staying in the shadows for now.
Happy to see you back and I hope you’re doing well. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 07:49, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
I'm doing well. It's fine- hope you make these articles great quality and maybe FAs. HSLover/DWF (talk) 07:57, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

Darkmode and your signature

Your signature is completely unreadable in darkmode. Could you please modify it to work in both modes, by specifying a background color when specifying a font color ? Or by choosing colors that work in both modes ? —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 10:34, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

WP:SIGAPP doesn’t say anything about dark mode, but if you’d like to maybe just tell me what i need to include in my signature syntax to make it more readable i would be happy to change it. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 06:51, 18 October 2025 (UTC)

Help with editing

Hey, can you help me figure out how to change the content on this page? HyenaUnderstander (talk) 21:22, 19 December 2025 (UTC)

@HyenaUnderstander, Thanks for reaching out, would you like to add a page to the category? If so, that is usually done by editing the article itself not the category. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 23:28, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
I'd like to add some and remove others. I figured I would have to edit some aspect of the actual articles. How would I do that? HyenaUnderstander (talk) 05:27, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
Do you mind sharing which pages you wanted to add or remove? but to change a pages category go to the page you want to edit, press edit (make sure you're using the source editor), scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and you should see some categories, from there you just add the category or remove it from the list. To add it simply copy and paste [[Category:Terriers]]. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 07:53, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
What makes a particular article appropriate for a given category? HyenaUnderstander (talk) 11:19, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
The page Wikipedia:Categorization#Categorizing articles should help you with this, it says Defining characteristics of an article's topic are central to categorizing the article. A defining characteristic is one that reliable sources commonly and consistently refer to in describing the topic, such as the nationality of a person or the geographic location of a place.
For example, Jack Russell Terrier is referred to as a terrier by reliable sources so "terrier" is a defining characteristic. Another example would be Gameness as it is often used to describe terrier breeds.
Hopefully this helps! IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 19:58, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
Thanks! HyenaUnderstander (talk) 06:42, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
I can't figure out how to remove Rui Nikaidо from the category:Toy dogs HyenaUnderstander (talk) 08:16, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
I wouldn't recommend removing that page from that category because according to Wikipedia:Categorizing redirects#Subtopic categorization Some subtopics of articles have well-known names and, over time, may expand to become separate articles. Many articles cover several topics that have been combined. This can happen following a merge of several related articles. Often there are redirects pointing to these subtopics. These redirects can be categorized. In some cases, the categories for the redirects that point to the subtopics will be different than the categories for the entire article. Rui Nikaidо is a redirect, so in the category it will show up in italics (like this) and if you click it, it will take you to the subsection of Odd Taxi characters.
Categories can be tricky! Keep reading more about them and they will get easier with time. IntentionallyDense (Contribs) 01:07, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
How do I remove the page from the category? HyenaUnderstander (talk) 02:05, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
Also, how do you figure out which pictures you're allowed to use for Wikipedia articles? HyenaUnderstander (talk) 13:03, 21 December 2025 (UTC)

New pages patrol January–February 2026 Backlog drive

January–February 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol

New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points.

  • The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026.
  • The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability.
  • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive.
  • Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants.
  • Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points.
  • Streak awards will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds.
  • Barnstars will also be awarded for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). WikiProject Medicine Newsletter - January 2026

Issue 26January 2026

WikiProject Medicine Newsletter

Happy New Year from WikiProject Medicine. Last year was tumultuous, with large language models competing for readers’ attention. These models often sound authoritative despite frequent hallucinations. They are however effective at writing in clear, accessible language, something research shows we often fail to achieve in medical articles. One of the goals of the Vital Signs 2026 campaign is to ensure that our top-importance articles are understandable, as this is one of the six B-class criteria they should meet.

  • The Vital Signs campaign has kicked off. We've already removed misinformation from breast cancer, updated the management section of asthma, and assessed what needs to happen at autism. Can you help too?

WikiCup 2026 March newsletter

The first round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As some of you may have noticed, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. This point increase has been retroactively applied to all good article reviews for which competitors have claimed points in this round. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 1 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 300 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 7 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 168 good articles, 13 good-topic articles and more than 50 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 14 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 700 reviews. The tournament points table will be updated within the next few days.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
