Memory misfiring?
Hi - I have a vague sense that you pinged me from an SPI case yesterday and I made a mental note to swing back around and look at it today. I can't now see the ping in my notifications though, and I'm wondering if I'm just getting old. Are you waiting for a response from me anywhere? - Scratch that - found it at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Shikh Merajul Islam, where I have replied. Good to know I haven't completely lost it... Girth Summit (blether) 13:58, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Discworld adaptations that don't suck
Unlike that sucky BBC series we talked about, I've been watching the Sky TV movie trilogy (2006-2010) and having a great time. David Jason is great, both as Rincewind & Albert. +Recommend. El_C 18:07, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
- Hey El C, they're so good and David Jason is just brilliant! I'm glad you reminded me because I'm definitely going to rewatch Colour of Magic tonight. If you're looking for another Pratchett adaptation to watch the TV series of Good Omens (a collaboration between Pratchett & Neil Gaiman) is brilliant even if it's not a Discworld book! --Jack Frost (talk) 12:14, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- Cool, will check out. That's a promising colab to be sure. Trailer looks good, too. Yeah, finished The Colour of Magic when I wrote that, and am now half way through the Hogfather, then I'll be Going Postal (order, what order?). All have now been released on BluRay, so, hurrah! El_C 15:28, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
- What a fun ride, both the Sky movies and BBC's Good Omens. For the Sky ones, Magic was probably my favourite. It just seemed to represent the best of what the Discworld had to offer, imagination and fun factor -wise. Plus, David Jason as the lead — 'nuff said. Second favourite was Postal, which was probably the highest quality production. Hogfather was okay as far as XMAS themes go, but was probably the most limited of the three.
- As for Good Omens, 'I really liked its message of peace, and having the agency to fight for it. It was also just really good TV: filmography, casting, writing, music, it pretty much had it all! El_C 09:02, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Features for new users coming soon (and mentors, like you, wanted!)
Hello. As you're currently listed as a host at the Teahouse, I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.
- Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
- There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
- Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.
To spread the load on our current list of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; User Panini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at the Teahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. To view a list of every question asked of all mentors over the last 14 days, click here.
If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as have done at the Teahouse in the past - then please consider signing up at Growth Team features/Mentor list. But please only do so if you are genuinely willing to be available to help. Existing users can already 'opt-in' to seeing the Newcomer Homepage features via their Preferences.
Thank you! Nick Moyes (talk) 11:44, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
Possible sock but not strong enough
Hey Jack! I want your opinion on something. While looking through my recent changes filter, I saw user edit the article Rubinsky RBK, which had previously been edited by a sock of El Menor Mc. The user I'm concerned about is El 10 oficial. I have some suspicions of them being a sock of El Menor with a similar username, and having edited a article previously edited by a sock of them. However, that's the only edit they've made, and I don't feel that the connection is strong enough. Would it be wise for me to report them to SPI or just watch them and see if they do anything that shows a stronger connection? I'm asking you because you're an SPI Clerk so you would probably know what I should do. I'm not asking you to do any kind of CU (I highly doubt you can), I'm simply just not sure what I should do in this case. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:18, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- Hey Blaze Wolf, thanks for your message. I often think in these cases where there's only been one or two edits which aren't crystal clear disruption to watch and wait; they'll either stop, or they'll continue, things will become clearer, and the decision about blocks etc. is much easier at that point. Thanks, --Jack Frost (talk) 01:34, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

Hello Jack Frost,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 879 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 813 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

Hello Jack Frost,
- Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
- Backlog drive
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here.
Barnstars will be awarded.
- TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
- Misc
There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 31553 articles, as of 14:00, 23 August 2026 (UTC), according to DatBot
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

Hello Jack Frost,
- Backlog status
After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.
Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.
- Coordination
- MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
- Open letter to the WMF
- The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
- TIP - Reviewing by subject
- Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.

- New reviewers
- The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing

SPI
Hello Jack Frost! I'm sorry to bother you on your talk page, I just had a random question. I'm always looking for ways to expand my contributions to WP, and one area I've always found to be interesting is SPI. I know I'm nowhere near being ready to train as an SPI clerk, but it's certainly something I'd like to work towards if at all possible. Is there any advice you could offer me to point me in the right direction for possibly working towards this? I appreciate any advice you can provide. Thank you and I'll see you around! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 20:49, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- Spf121188, thanks for your message and interest in SPI. The advice I received was to demonstrate that you know what you're doing around SPI by making useful contributions; file good quality cases, post clear evidence on cases which may need it, and be helpful while not overstepping the bounds by trying to clerk cases (see here). More importantly, demonstrate you are able to remain calm, make sensible & thoughtful decisions, and communicate well with others across the project. Good luck, and happy editing. --Jack Frost (talk) 11:12, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- Appreciate the advice! I'll keep filing cases as I see them for the time being, with an eye on perhaps asking to be a clerk trainee after some time. If you find any flaws with cases I submit/have submitted, I would love some feedback. Thank you again and I'll see you around! SPF121188 (talk this way) (contribs) 14:12, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

Newari literature
You should move this page. Per WP:RMNOMIN: "If no one has objected, go ahead and perform the move as requested". Srnec (talk) 20:09, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Srnec, I have elaborated on my closure rationale a little to make it clearer (when I re-read it I thought I could have been clearer). Essentially there was an RM discussion in November which found the consensus was against the same move; to move it based on a lack of participation now with no 'new' information seems to fly in the face of that consensus. If you would prefer, I can revert my closure, but I would not be comfortable moving the page. Thanks, --Jack Frost (talk) 20:41, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
- There was only one opposer across two RMs. That means that a grand total of three people have thought about the question across approximately two months' worth of open RMs. It stands at 2-to-1 in favour of a move. If you are still not comfortable moving it, then I ask that you re-open it. Srnec (talk) 01:02, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022
Hello Jack Frost,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

Suggestions:
- There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
- Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
- Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
- This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.
Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!
- Reminders
- Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
- If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
- Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Speedy deletion nomination of White Rabbit Radio

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. User:Namiba 15:21, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
Hello Jack Frost,

- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

- Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.

Account creator granted

After reviewing your request for the "accountcreator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:
- The account creator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
- The account creator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the account creator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the account creator right. Happy editing! stwalkerster (talk) 12:15, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
Hello Jack Frost,

Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

New pages patrol newsletter
Hello Jack Frost,

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Jack Frost:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:29, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
Hello Jack Frost,

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Your access to AWB may be temporarily removed
Hello Jack Frost! This message is to inform you that due to editing inactivity, your access to AutoWikiBrowser may be temporarily removed. If you do not resume editing within the next week, your username will be removed from the CheckPage. This is purely for routine maintenance and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You may regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! — MusikBot II talk 17:22, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
Important: Please update user script installation
Hi there, you currently have a user script installed from Anne drew Andrew and Drew. Several weeks ago, I changed my username to Anne drew, and unfortunately, due to an issue with script redirects, the scripts you have installed under my old username no longer function.
To fix this, please update your JavaScript pages (Special:MyPage/common.js or Special:MyPage/skin.js) by replacing all instances of Anne drew Andrew and Drew with Anne drew.
If any of this is unclear, please ping Anne drew for help. I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!
Thanks – Anne drew

Temporary account IP viewer granted

Hello, Jack Frost. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
- You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
- Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
- When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
- Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
- Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! — rsjaffe 🗣️ 15:12, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
New page reviewer granted

Hi Jack Frost, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.
This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:
- Add Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers to your watchlist to follow NPP-related discussions
- If you use Twinkle, configure it to log your CSDs and PRODs
- If you can read any languages other than English, add yourself to the list of reviewers with language proficiencies
You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! signed, Rosguill talk 20:23, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
Page mover granted

Hello, Jack Frost. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.
Useful links:
- Wikipedia:Requested moves
- Category:Requested moves, for article renaming requests awaiting action.
If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Elli (talk | contribs) 20:37, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Sockpuppet investigation (mostly procedural concerns)
Hi, I saw that you labelled me as a duck over at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dentren. I'm not one. I have no links whatsoever with that individual and I didn't even know of that user before this ordeal began. I explain myself in quite a bit of detail over at that page, how I believe the process to be extremely flawed, and how I am more than willing to give you guys any sort of evidence you require to clear my name or provide consent for any type of thorough investigation.
I'm not that person. In fact, I've been quite hurt and shaken by the accusations. I came here looking to improve the articles, using my expertise as a fifth year law student. All I wanted was to make articles look better, and just be better overall. And you can check every single one of my edits to back that up. Before this ordeal, I never engaged in any sort of discussions, or any sort of drama.
This was my creative outlet to relax, acting in good faith, and following the guidelines, making things look nice. And now that has been ruined by this person making senseless accusations that really pain me. It pains someone innocent to be accused so senselessly of something he hasn't done, and to not even be given an opportunity to explain themselves before being imposed a sanction. I have put so much hard work on these edits, formatting everything right, gathering sources, etc.
Truth be told, all I want to do now is clear my name, because I am innocent, I am not that person; and to ensure appropriate measures are enacted in the future to avoid these overly punitive and brutal scenarios whereby an individual is subjected to a high degree of stress for something he did not do. There ought to be a higher degree of oversight and accountability between your peers, I don't see justice in a model where the same administrator acts as both prosecutor and judge, and where the same administrator also overseas appeals procedures, it goes against everything that embodies due process.
Furthermore, to not involve the accused individual is frankly stunning to me. For the accused person to not be formally notified of the investigation, or given a period of time to submit evidence. It feels like an incredibly unilateral and arbitrary process where the fate of users is left to people like you, who only give a glance to another profile, and reach what seems like an absolute conclussion that someone is or not a sockpuppet ("Looks like a duck"). And I have nothing against you, by the way. You are just doing the job you volunteered for, and following procedures. What I'm complaining about is the procedures, and I hope someday you can raise these concerns with your peers so that changes can actually be enacted because as of this very moment the way you guys have been proceeding is little different from the Trial of Charles I, where it feels like all odds are stacked against the accused and no proper opportunity for his defense is available.
Once my name is cleared, I have no interest in participating in this community for a long while. This experience has been jarring, stressful and, if anything, has showcased how some people (not you) are incredibly uncivil.
Like I said in the other pages, I'm more than willing to cooperate and give whatever information or documentation I'm asked to give.

Hi Jack, Did you send the article? Nothing came. I replied to your initial mail. Thanks again, Zerotalk 05:20, 3 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Zero0000, apologies for the delay. It turned out I had only the first page of the article which for some idiotic reason was uploaded to every database under the sun and marked as being the full text. After some robust conversations with our librarians I eventually cracked it and bought access to the fulltext which I've sent to you via email. Cheers, Jack Frost (talk) 07:35, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
New to Wikipedia but not to Maple Shade, NJ
I am new to Wikipedia but not to Maple Shade, NJ where I been a historian for over 20 years and am the president of the Maple Shade Historical Society. I note all the sources quoted in other stuff not mine or pretty lame. Say the link to "Cinnaminson Township" etc. I'll keep fighting to have truth here. I guess I'll have to learn all the ins and outs of cites. Shoot people putting stuff here like Chesterfield School. It was the Chesterford school as half the kids were from the other side of the Pennsauken Creek. It is even on the National Register as Chesterford School. And my write up I do quote every src in my books I wrote but this Shoot I could "Cite" every line and have cites to the cites to the cites. I know Maple Shade, NJ!
Anyhow maybe all we got is your "Addition" page for now. So much Maple Shade history and one day in the life of Martin Luther King is more important- Yes to him and to Civil Rights Movement etc, not to Maple Shade.
I have to learn all the cites stuff then put back on Maple Shade history. DennisLeeWeaver (talk) 12:22, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Dennis, I'm sorry I couldn't quite type fast enough and our messages have sailed past each other! I left a message on your talkpage (here) to try and explain what's going on in a bit more detail. I'm not a historian, though I am an academic, so I can understand how confusing (and painful) all this wikipedia specific nonsense can be compared to what we'd both be used to. It's getting rather late in my neck of the woods, but I'll aim to drop you another message tomorrow with some user-friendly guides on citations, as well as a couple of tools which make life much easier. If you have any questions, please feel free to , , or leave me another message here and I'll do my best to assist. Thanks, Jack Frost (talk) 12:49, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/ZHUWANDI
Good to see you again.
You wrote: "none of the accounts blocked as socks of ZHUWANDI on Ruwiki have edited Enwiki (nor Ruwiki for that matter...) and nothing in this filing otherwise amounts to actionable evidence regarding the other accounts mentioned."
But Махачкъала is User:Heinrich_Quincke (the 1st account on the English Wikipedia),
and Махачкъала is User:ZHUWANDI (2nd account on the English Wikipedia)
Account "ZHUWANDI" is his new account on the English Wikipedia, after account "Heinrich_Quincke" was blocked. DigitalSpace (talk) 09:40, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry to bother you. I’m also getting quite tired of this situation, and I’m concerned that if this user isn’t blocked, they may end up causing ongoing problems for everyone on Wikipedia. DigitalSpace (talk) 10:01, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
- @DigitalSpace: You are correct that I had missed something; I was working from a translation and didn't consider that that would also translate Cyrillic usernames. That therefore changes the basis of my assessment and I've updated the case accordingly. My apologies for the confusion. Jack Frost (talk) 10:18, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time to review this and for your thoughtful clarification. DigitalSpace (talk) 10:23, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
- @DigitalSpace: You will no doubt have noticed that following clarification of the situation from a RuWiki administrator, I have instead closed the case as the checkuser findings on RuWiki related Махачкъала to a different user. Jack Frost (talk) 00:05, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- I apologize for bothering you again. But what does it mean then, "and ZHUWANDI / Махачкъала was blocked by checkuser Q-bit array for sockpuppetry"? I assure you 100%, ZHUWANDI is Махачкъала, and I'm also 100% sure that Heinrich_Quincke is Махачкъала. DigitalSpace (talk) 05:53, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- Also, here is a translation of another quote from the administrator from Ru-Wiki: "For context, I'll note that the topic starter (Lekéville) turned out to be a virtual username belonging to the user Махачкъала, who had a long-standing conflict with the banned username (including a mutual topic ban). Judging by everything, I believe Махачкъала/Lekéville was deliberately provoking DigitalSpace, including in other language sections (see the contribution from the virtual username ZHUWANDI on the English Wikipedia), and it was his actions that set off the chain of events that led to the latter's permanent ban." - @Jack Frost If a new investigation is formally required, I will create it. DigitalSpace (talk) 10:11, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- There is no new investigation required as there is no credible evidence that the same editor is responsible for those accounts. WP:SPI is not a battleground for your dispute. Jack Frost (talk) 12:46, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- Which two accounts are you referring to? "Махачкъала" and "Heinrich_Quincke"? The connection between these accounts has already been proven. DigitalSpace (talk) 13:43, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- ZHUWANDI и Махачкъала - are interconnected (the same user). This is what the administrators of Russian Wikipedia write. Also, Heinrich_Quincke и Махачкъала - are interconnected (the same user). They were both permanently blocked by the administrator Materialscientist. DigitalSpace (talk) 13:51, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- The Russian Wikipedia administrators did not write that they are the same user, in fact they were noted as being a different user entirely; as was noted at the SPI page. Jack Frost (talk) 15:06, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Jack Frost Jack, please show me the link to this page. I'm completely confused. That’s incredible. DigitalSpace (talk) 15:16, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Jack Frost Please note. The administrator translated (by mistake) his account name (from "Махачкъала" to "Makhachkala") (the account "Makhachkala" does not exist).
- In fact, what was meant was this:: "P.S. Just in case, I note that both participants in this incident are now blocked in the Russian Wikipedia: DigitalSpace was blocked by me for threats and violation of Wikipedia:No personal attacks, and ZHUWANDI / Махачкъала was blocked by checkuser Q-bit array for sockpuppetry. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this — their endless mutual disputes have now also spread to the English Wikipedia." DigitalSpace (talk) 15:27, 16 April 2026 (UTC)

Move reverted
Hi. You moved Draft:The Bookie & the Bruiser out of draft space following a TR move request. This is not a technical request, as publication from Draft to mainspace needs to have consensus that the article meets notability guidelines. I have reverted the move and put a tag in place that AFC is a more appropriate action. BOVINEBOY2008 17:21, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, Bovineboy2008, thanks for your message. Firstly, I'd be grateful if you could point me to the policy or guideline which (1) supports the statement that
...publication from Draft to mainspace needs to have consensus that the article meets notability guidelines
, (2) enforces the AFC process for the move of a draft, and (3) suggests that this was not a technical request. WP:DRAFTMOVE suggests that any editor may move an article from draftspace to mainspace, and if they do not have the technical capacity to do so (as in this case) may request technical assistance with performing the move. This move was requested by an editor who would usually have been able to complete the move but for the technical limitations, and at first glance the article did not appear inappropriate for a move to mainspace. I would also suggest that it would not meet the policy for draftification, nor the mandatory reasons for the use of the WP:AFC process (and in fact that page statesEstablished users are encouraged to create articles on their own if they do not need support from reviewers.
). I'm therefore most curious to understand the reasons. Thanks, Jack Frost (talk) 00:01, 13 April 2026 (UTC)- I believe the reason that the reason it was not able to be moved into mainspace was because it was previously been moved to draft space for not meeting notability guidelines. I believe it still does not meet those guidelines. So perhaps it should have been taken to AFD. But that alone would make the move not uncontroversial. It looks to me that the TR was a way to circumvent an AFC process. BOVINEBOY2008 00:07, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Bovineboy2008, thanks for the quick reply. However I feel I must be missing something rather obvious, as I'm still a little confused precisely what the
AFC process
was which was being circumvented and I'm therefore still most curious to understand the answers to the remainder of my questions above. Jack Frost (talk) 00:16, 13 April 2026 (UTC)- I think you're in the right here @Jack Frost. AfC is optional and if the draft is contested, it should remain in mainspace and go through AfD. @Bovineboy2008 should an editor choose to use AfC, the barometer of acceptance is whether it stands a reasonable chance at AfD-not consensus that it meets notability guidelines. Please reverse your draftification Star Mississippi 01:59, 13 April 2026 (UTC)

SPI close
Hello, you closed this SPI with Behavioural connection alone appears insufficient basis for action
. Could you elaborate? In my opinion, it's quite obvious that this is Nomian. Malerisch (talk) 11:21, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hello Malerisch, thanks for the message. I essentially mean that (similar to the technical findings) I cannot and am not saying that AvidAnalyst is definitively ruled out as being a sockpuppet of Nomian. But that after reviewing the behavioural indicators specifically identified in the report, as well as independently investigating the behaviour, edit history, and actions of Avidanalyst and those sockpuppet accounts identified in the case archive, it's my assessment that the 'standard of proof' by which I could justify recommending administrative action is taken has not been met. Looking at the matter afresh, I came to the same position: Taking all the evidence together I cannot definitively say that AvidAnalyst is not a sockpuppet of Nomian, but that I also cannot say with sufficient confidence to justify recommending that administrative action is taken against them that they are a sockpuppet of Nomian. Thanks, Jack Frost (talk) 12:20, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
GauravMandalDesign
Hi, Jack. You created the account GauravMandalDesign, but that's not a good thing, since it's the name of a business. See e.g. . I have softblocked the account. Bishonen | tålk 12:04, 17 April 2026 (UTC).
- Hi Bishonen, thankyou for letting me know. I actually noted my take on that on the ACC system after doing the usual checks (
Name might be a business/sole trader, but there's enough doubt that it's createable.
) I sent them the COI / Promo email when I created the account (when we create an account through ACC the user gets a semi-automated 'hello, we created your account for you' email, if they give off spammy-vibes or they're connected to a company, then you can send a version of the email which says 'hello, we created your account for you. By the way you're not allowed to promote things / spam / write an article about yourself / be a general pest'.) I'm sorry that we fell on different sides of the fence on this one which has created more work for you, and will keep it in mind for the next time. Thanks, Jack Frost (talk) 12:26, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
Sex-positive feminism
Hello,
please do not delete my edit without giving a reason. I just mentioned the fact that the Bible does NOT forbid oral and anal sex, and it does not enforce pure vaginal intercourse. This should be mentioned as it is in contrast to the previously mentioned "Christian doctrine". Please provide biblical sources if you think otherwise. I am open for arguments and diskussion. Thank you. -- ~2026-23633-01 (talk) 12:49, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
- The explanation was here. If you are going to make an addition like that, provide a source rather than original research. Jack Frost (talk) 13:40, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

| Thank you for your excellent work at SPI lately. I wasn't around there the last time you were active, but I am so incredibly glad to have you back. Toadspike [Talk] 21:56, 22 April 2026 (UTC) |
- Hey Toadspike, thanks for the message; it's much appreciated! It's good to be back & able to chip in, and it feels like I'm slowly getting my wikipedia groove back and remembering how things work (with patience and pointers from everyone I've bumped into...). Thanks again! Cheers, Jack Frost (talk) 00:07, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
Question.
Hiya, thank you for a complete answer on my latest SPI. Does that still hold the same when the ISPs are different? Halbared (talk) 07:22, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
- Halbared, yeah, pretty much because the temporary account is linked to the cookie on the device rather than the IP address. When it comes to TAs and sockpuppetry I lean toward 'unless they're obviously jumping temporary accounts to avoid sanctions or otherwise being disruptive, give the benefit of the doubt'. Jack Frost (talk) 13:39, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
question RE:SPI and oversighted users
is there a better/preferred way to handle suspected sockmasters that are oversighted, when filing the case? -- Aunva6talk - contribs 05:05, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Aunva6, I don't think there's any agreed way as it doesn't happen all that often but if there's two or more accounts other than the oversighted one; I'd file the case under one of those accounts even if the oversighted account is older and then mention them in the body of the report. If there's only the oversighted account and one other, I'd file under the remaining account for the same reason. It just makes it easier to reference, and the case will always need to be moved from "unknown" anyway, so filing under an account which isn't the oldest in these circumstances isn't going to be an issue. Thanks, Jack Frost (talk) 06:11, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
Queries
Hi! You wrote: I ran a couple of queries through Quarry and didn't find any other accounts that looked like them.
on Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Chase1068.
The trick is to use User:Polygnotus/Scripts/GetAllContribs.js on suspected usernames. Give the textfile to a clanker and ask it to extract the editsummaries and find similarities and extract unique identifying patterns from those.
Then you get stuff like:
- is it hard to ask
- Forever and ever. Amen
- I swear to god, I wasn't being disruptive
Then you make a new Quarry query like so:
USE enwiki_p;
SELECT
rev_id,
rev_timestamp,
page_namespace,
page_title,
actor_name,
comment_text
FROM revision
JOIN comment ON rev_comment_id = comment_id
JOIN actor ON rev_actor = actor_id
JOIN page ON rev_page = page_id
WHERE rev_timestamp >= '20240101000000'
AND rev_timestamp < '20250101000000'
AND comment_text LIKE '%I swear to god, I wasn\'t being disruptive%'
LIMIT 500;
I limited it to one year and that already takes ~12 minutes.
Hope that helps, Polygnotus (talk) 02:16, 26 April 2026 (UTC)
May 2026 Administrator Election – Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Candidates.
Here is the schedule:
- April 29 – May 5: Call for candidates
- May 8–12: Discussion phase
- May 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
- The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
- Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for admin elections candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
- The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
- The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
- Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.
