Hi Kudpung. I see that you're an online ambassador. I'm the Professor for Aaron Frank's environmental law class, and while you're not signed up for my course, I was wondering if you'd be willing to take a look at any or all of the articles my students are working on. One of the aspects of this sort of course is that students understand that they are putting their work out before the wikipedia community for review. In the past, there hasn't been that much activity on their pages as they were working on them. I was hoping that if you were willing, you could take a look. If not, no problem.

The students now have draft articles in mainspace and are starting to review each other's articles, and they could also use a preliminary review by an experienced Wikipedian in this area. If you get a chance, ideally sometime before Thursday or so, please take a look at the following list of articles and leave feedback on the talk page:

I boldly changed the threshold in response to discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Unbundle autopatrolled from admin rights package, particularly the thread "The wrong question". I tend to agree that a centralised discussion of current community standards on this point would be useful, but no-one seems sufficiently interested to set one up. As one of the most regular admins at PERM, and having reviewed literally hundreds of applications for 'Autopatrolled', and having patrolled literally tens of thousands of new articles, I can't see any reason to reduce the threshold. I have issued an L2 warning (which anyone can do). The previous complaints serve already for an L1. If the disruption continues however, I suggest you either carry out your threat of an SPI or augment the warnings for disruption. If the disruption is really a nuisance you can spring straight to a final warning and if he steps out of line after that, let me know and I will block. Hi Kudpung, I saw you weigh in over at Kwami's talk page on the issue of the renaming of articles about Indigenous people in Canada. Skookum! really is correct here and needs some help on the individual articles that have the move discussions going on. If there are people who understand about these issue of naming indigenous groups, yourself included, it would be helpful for them to weigh in and help explain policy a bit. I was bullied off all discussions about linguistics by Kwami some years ago and following his performance on my RfA, I really have no interest in discussing anything more with him. Suffice it to say, he has unilaterally decided how we Brits should pronounce our town and county names by introducing a rhotic R where there are none, into the lead sections of town and county articles. Standard British English is non rhotic as most Americans are fully aware. Only a few regional accents have one, in particular Scottish and those of SW England, but it is my contention that an encyclopedia should represent the standard form, unless local dialects and accents are treated separately in sections of articles. I've since checked out the discussions and those on the various users' talk pages. The current discussions are indeed a similar repeat of Kwami's personal hegemony over British English place/county names from a few years ago. Kwami's tendentious editing and baiting people in the hope that they will acquiesce is nothing new (and there are diffs to prove it). What happens is that they quietly retire from areas on Wikipedia to which they possibly had most to contribute; the loss is to Wikipedia as a whole and is not conducive to editor retention. Saw your bio bit about WWII radar. You might be interested in Russell and Sigurd Varian, an article I've been working on some and would like to eventually put up for GA. These guys invented the klystron and did a lot of work on radar during WWII, then founded Varian Associates, one of the first firms to take root in Silicon Valley.. One of their widows helped their niece build up a nice horse ranch, which is how I came across them (with me, everything eventually traces back to WikiProject Equine, heh...) Anyway, I've been looking for a collaborator/partner in crime on that article ever since User:Churn and change bailed from WP. Any help or even just constructive critiques would be welcomed. How is his memory? Possible he knew of or worked with the Varian brothers -- there's a big blank hole in their WWII history, as apparently they did work that is classified. But they were moved from the west coast to the east coast of the USA during the war and helped figure out how to make radar devices small enough to put into airplanes, basically. Sigurd was a pilot who saw the need, Russell was the scientist. Both were rather quirky geniuses from a literary family (see John Osborne Varian, their father, who knew William Butler Yeates back in Ireland...) He won't know them. He worked exclusively in the UK with most of the people mentioned in this article. After the war he continued on research there, through its various name changes, on missile aerodynamics and guidance systems until he retired as a civil servant, after which he continued to work on avionics for several years as a consultant to a government contract company until he retired for good. Ah! Compare Cavity magnetron to klystron -- from the latter: "Klystron amplifiers have the advantage (over the magnetron) of coherently amplifying a reference signal..." so related (for a similar purpose) technology. Now, your dad would be probably at best provide WP:OR in wiki-land (sigh) but I find it interesting that there is something of an intersection here. Hi Kudpung. First I want to say thanks for hanging in there and sticking with the project. It's through the dedication of editors such as yourself that Wikipedia has become what it is today. I appreciate the devotion you have shown to the project. I know you had a difficult RfA and I'm guessing that's what lead you to start the RfA reform stuff. I also know you've been subjected to quite a bit of unjustified hostility from new users/IPs because of your help in the admin areas. So I wanted to thank you for hanging in there and sticking with the project.

I just read Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2013-05-13/News and notes and it seems likely that I have been looking at the WMF through rose-colored glasses. I shall make a concerted effort to take in view points contrary to my own with regards to the WMF.

You've kept me on my toes, Kudpung, and I appreciate that. It's important to me to see things how they truly are and not give too much weight to one side or the other. Actually it does if you click on Block instead or Warn. Block works then warns. Warn section just posts the blocking message as in this case. The reason for this (been there, done that) is usually lack of coffee. -- Alexf^(talk) 11:54, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I removed the speedy because the article makes reasonable claims to importance. That does not mean however that I endorse keeping the article. User:Reddogsix still feels that there is a possibility that the article will not meet our notability guidelines (in this case WP:BIO), and has listed the article for discussion by the community. Hi, I'm very sorry to bother you but I wonder if you could offer me some help/advice, please? I've been working on an article, which I have just moved to main space, Pitfour estate - I had also done some work on the articles about the lairds of the estate. I notice there is an article on the German Wikipedia for Pitfour House. I'm ashamed to admit my German is non existent but using Google translate, I think some of the German article might be incorrect; for instance, I think the German article says the estate was acquired in 1800 by James Ferguson (1735-1820) but these dates are for the third laird. The estate was actually purchased by his grandfather in 1700. It does become confusing as the first three lairds were all James Ferguson, followed by three named George Ferguson!

I'm not sure how I've landed on your page about this, perhaps as you're listed as able to translate from German to English? Again, I'm sorry to bother you but I'm not sure how to get corrections done on the German Wikipedia - of course it could be that the Google translation is just making nonsense of it..... Here is a complete manual translation of the body of the German Wikipedia article. It's not very different from a Google translation but German syntax is quite different from English and Google doesn't handle it too well, resulting in false negatives,etc. The only way you can verify the information is by obtaining and checking the cited sources. Hey, Kudpung! Sorry to meddle with your things, but I couldn't resist: I saw your post about your JS issues on Scottywong's talk page and took a look. On your vector.js page, it looked like you were using HTML-style comment syntax (i.e. <!-- ... -->) to insert comments. That isn't the comment syntax that Javascript uses, though; Javascript uses the same comment syntax that Java uses, where single-line comments begin with // and multi-line or partial-line comments are enclosed by /* and */. As I said, I couldn't resist going into your .js page and replacing the HTML comments with the equivalent JS comments (here's the diff); I'm really sorry if that's out of line. *shrug* You'd be surprised how often stuff like that happens: you notice something slightly wrong, some minor problem, with some code, then when you look at it, you see that none of it should ever have worked. Usually, once you notice that, the whole system starts crashing down around you, like Wile E. Coyote only falling after he realizes he's been running on thin air. I believe the technical term for it is a "schrodingbug". Anyway, you're very welcome; again, let me know if anything else is breaking, and I'll be more than happy to take a look.
