Legobot posting GA messages in other people's name

I have previously requested that you stop your bot posting in my name. Don't do it again, I don't like it. If you want your bot to post stuff, then do it in your name, not other people's. Or, get people's permission first. Preferably, write a script allowing people to opt out of the messages completely. I much prefer to contact people in my own time and own way. Your messages appear like spam. They notify people before I'm ready. And they post even when I have already posted. Please sort it out. It's bloody annoying. SilkTork ✔Tea time 22:47, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. So, for some reason I had never deployed the updated code that I had written in response to your request, my apologies for that. Your username is listed at User:GA bot/Don't notify users for me, so the bot should stop notifying users for you. Please let me know if it continues to do so. Thanks, Legoktm (talk) 05:13, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Rescaled images script

I've been using your rescaled images script (which is a fantastic update to drilnoth's by the way, thank you!) but it sometimes removes an extra line which means that it breaks the formatting below if there is another template above the {{non-free reduced}}. Some examples . As you can see, this breaks the formatting on the level 2 header. Any chance of a fix? Hopefully it's as simple as adding a line break or something but I have no coding knowledge beyond Wikicode. Thanks very much, James086Talk 15:20, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

should fix it, you may need to clear your cache for it to take effect. Please let me know if it doesn't work. Thanks, Legoktm (talk) 05:17, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
I tested it on all 5 of those examples and it worked perfectly. Thanks very much for the fix and again for the script. James086Talk 11:48, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Legobot

Looks like the bot is editing while logged out . --NeilN talk to me 02:30, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Hmm, the framework should prevent against that. Unfortunately I'm about to go out of town, so I really don't have time to look into it. If it becomes a nuisance, I can just disable the bot, but I'd rather keep it running for now since it seems to be unpredictable and it's not screwing up. Legoktm (talk) 14:53, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Revert wars, Rachel Marsden page

Thank you for protecting the page. However, a user from the IP 195.132.58.181 (Ile de France, exactly where the subject of the article lives) just reverted all the editing work done - reverted it back to the version that was sourced primarily to - the bio blurbs authored by the subject. Would you please have a look at the page when you are able? Thanks CammieD (talk) 23:16, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

  • Traffic report: Brinksmen on the brink
There's nothing like a good old bit of Cold War nostalgia, combined with a suitably scary international incident, to focus our attention on the real world. That said, nothing could stem our outpouring of affection for the beloved comedian Harold Ramis, whose death managed to top the week in the face of those international concerns.
  • News and notes: Wikipedia Library finding success in matching contributors with sources
This week, the Signpost caught up with the Wikipedia Library (TWL), which aims to connect reference resources with Wikipedia editors who can use them to improve articles. Funded through the Wikimedia Foundation's Individual Engagement Grants program, TWL has a new "visiting scholars" initiative and a microgrants program in the works.
  • Featured content: Full speed ahead for the WikiCup
The WikiCup competition is ongoing, while six articles, three lists, and ten pictures were promoted to "featured" status of the English Wikipedia this week.
  • WikiProject report: Article Rescue Squadron
This week, the Signpost delved into the English Wikipedia's Article Rescue Squadron.

Bill Chott

I think you did wikiusers a disservice by taking down the page for Bill Chott, a former announcer for the popular Saturday Night Live program, veteran of dozens of major motion pictures and television programs, and someone who's name is referenced in several other articles. You said there was a lack of reliable sources. Here are some that seem reliable to me. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0159273/?ref_=nv_sr_1 http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20364394_20539988,00.html http://www.fandango.com/billchott/filmography/p377853 http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celbrity/bill_chott/

  • News and notes: Wikimedians celebrate International Women's Day, Women's History Month
Wikimedians around the world gathered to celebrate Women's History Month and the associated International Women's Day by holding editathons. If you lived in the United Kingdom, you had the opportunity to attend Wikimedia UK's event at the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, part of University College London and host to one of the largest collections of Egyptian and Sudanese artifacts in the world.
  • Traffic report: War and awards
An intensely busy week, as a confluence of celebratory, curious and urgent topics pushed typical residents like Facebook and Deaths in 2014 out of the top ten entirely.

User:Legoktm/rescaled.js

Hi Lego, awesome script. I've run into what might be a bug with it though. I'm using Chrome, and the script is deleting old revision(s) but not removing the template (I do get the template telling me that it's been removed though). Any ideas? Legobot down

Legobot appears to have stopped working after 15:00, 17 March 2014 (UTC); it last updated the GAN page at 12:32 that day. If you could please restart the bot as soon as you see this, that would be great. Many thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 14:44, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

  • WikiProject report: We have history
This week, we visited WikiProject History, an ancient project with roots dating back to 2001. The project is home to 196 pieces of Featured material and 483 Good and A-class articles independent of the vast accomplishments of its various child projects. WikiProject History maintains a lengthy list of tasks, oversees the history portal, and continues to build Wikipedia's outline of history.

From IRC

Hey. So the list I was hoping for is all pages in the file namespace that are members of Category:Items with OTRS permission confirmed and not members of Category:Wikipedia files on Wikimedia Commons for which a local copy has been requested to be kept. Thanks! Sven Manguard Wha? 01:15, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

  • Comment: A foolish request
April Fools' Day is rapidly approaching. Every year, members of the community pull pranks and make (or attempt to make) humorous edits to pages across the project. Every year, the community follows April Fools' Day with a contentious debate about whether or not it is necessary to impose limits on April Fools' Day jokes for future years. It is a polarizing issue.
  • Traffic report: Down to a simmer
Topics like the 2014 Crimea crisis or the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 eased down the list, making way for such traditional topics as St Patrick's Day, Reddit threads and even Google Doodles, which have reappeared after a long absence.
  • Recent research: Wikipedians' "encyclopedic identity" dominates even in Kosovo debates
Have you wondered about differences in the articles on Crimea in the Russian, Ukrainian, and English versions of Wikipedia? A newly published article entitled "Lost in Translation: Contexts, Computing, Disputing on Wikipedia" doesn't address Crimea, but nonetheless offers insight into the editing of contentious articles in multiple language editions through a heavy qualitative examination of Wikipedia articles about the Kosovo in the Serbian, Croatian, and English editions.
  • News and notes: Commons Picture of the Year—winners announced
Results for the two-stage 2013 Commons Picture of the Year have been announced. This year's winning photograph (above) shows a lightbulb that has been cracked, allowing inert gas to escape—and oxygen to enter, so that the tungsten filament burns. From the flames rise elegant curls of blue smoke.
  • Op-ed: Why we're updating the default typography for Wikipedia
On 3 April, we will roll out some changes to the typography of Wikipedia's default Vector skin, to increase readability for users on all devices and platforms. After five months of testing, four major iterations, and through close collaboration with the global Wikimedia community, who provided more than 100 threads of feedback, we’ve arrived at a solution which improves the primary reading and editing experience for all users.
  • Technology report: Why will Wikipedia look like the Signpost?
As you have probably read on this weeks op-ed, or via various other channels of announcement, 3 April will see the introduction of the Typography refresh (or update) for the Vector skin on all Wikipedias. Other projects like Commons will have this update rolled out a few days prior.

TFA Protector Bot taking a well-deserved break?

Someone spotted that yesterday's TFA wasn't given move protection (and nothing after the TFA on 25th March has had been protected) - is the bot gone for good or just on holiday? Thanks, BencherliteTalk 14:38, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

Protected the scheduled TFAs now, but it would be good to have this handy helper back soon - I've grown very dependent on it! Thanks, BencherliteTalk 14:47, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
It probably got screwed up in the eqiad migration. --Rschen7754 18:04, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
@Bencherlite: sorry about that, I had forgotten I had put the bot on a separate tool account so it got disabled during the labs migration. I've re-enabled it, and it should be back on it's hourly schedule. Whenever I get the time, I have plans to work on some monitoring tools so I'll get emails or IRC pings when the bot (and legobot) stop running. Legoktm (talk) 16:00, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
