Athletics at the 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's team cross country
I previously removed the linking at Athletics at the 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's team cross country to all articles we do not currently have since it had been determined that competitors at the Olympic games are not default notable, so there is no reason to supposed we would automatically create these articles on people who are not clearly notable. An editor came along and reverted these edits with the explanation "keep links red". I really do not think we should have such links, it gives the false impression that Olympic competitors are default notable, and lots of redlinks in some cases lead to false links. I do not want to get in an edit war, so I am just letting you know. I do not think this massive amount of red links on people we are unlikely to ever have articles on is useful.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:20, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

- That editor is Habst. He and Beanie regularly go around and return to being present redlinks. Beanie claims that since "most olympians are notable" having a redlink is acceptable. These two editors are trying to avoid the implications of the consensus that Olympic competitors are notable and continue to make Wikipedia give the impression they are notable by making sure that there are links to the names of every olympic competitor. Since they do it in tandem one editor has no change to stop them, and they tend not to listen to other people.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:40, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Johnpacklambert, I just saw this. I never edited that article except for a minor naming change, so I'm not sure what you are referring to. I promise I don't believe in the motivations ascribed to me here.
