The first round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As some of you may have noticed, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. This point increase has been retroactively applied to all good article reviews for which competitors have claimed points in this round. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 1 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 300 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

• Bgsu98 (submissions) with 1,467 round points, largely gained from 1 featured article, 5 featured lists, 15 good articles, and 42 FAC and GAN reviews;
• Olliefant (submissions) with 1,246 round points, largely from 4 featured lists, 9 good articles, 2 featured topic articles, 4 did you know articles, and 75 FAC and GAN reviews;
• Generalissima (submissions) with 1,095 round points, largely from 3 featured articles, 6 good articles, and 5 did you know articles;
• MCE89 (submissions) with 848 round points, largely from 1 featured article, 8 good articles, 1 did you know article, and 32 FAC and GAN reviews; and
• Rollinginhisgrave (submissions) with 838 round points, largely from 1 featured article, 8 good articles, 1 did you know article, and 14 FAC, GAN, and peer reviews.

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 7 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 168 good articles, 13 good-topic articles and more than 50 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 14 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 700 reviews. The tournament points table will be updated within the next few days.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. @ChickenScuttleMonkey Hmm, it's a major topic, see WP:COI and WP:NPOV, if you haven't already. I think it's ok to cite one own's works if they are reliable, but you can always ask for review and feedback at WP:COIN, which is something I've done (some of my works is cited on Wikipedia too). PS. If you think Polandball and Countryball should be split, check WP:THREE and if you'd like me to think more on this, throw the three best sources that prove each has stand-alone notability. Otherwise I think it's best to look at this, as I said, from the broader perspective, as a Countryball phenomenon (meme), with Polandball being its most sigificant specific example. Hi Piotrus. You made Donald Black's book The Behavior of Law a link in Jurisprudence#See also. I removed it because, I am sure, a book title by itself (unless classic in a perspective of centuries) does not belong in a 'See also' section. Instead, an important book should be referred to in a section devoted to its topic. Perhaps you could create such a section of Jurisprudence and include Black's book in that section. On the other hand, this book is already mentioned prominently in Sociology of law. I'm inclined to count that as how the book should be considered and not mention it in Jurisprudence. @Errantios The purpose of the see also is to hold relevant topics until someone finds the time and will to include them in the article. The purposes of See also are various, but that purpose is not among them: MOS:ALSO. You agree that See also should be about topics. No other book is listed and only one individual - a classic of centuries, Publius Juventius Celsus. Black is already prominent in an included topic, Sociology of law. @Errantios MOS:ALSO clearly says "ne purpose of "See also" links is to enable readers to explore tangentially related topics;". The book presents one of the major theories of law. Theory of law redirects to Jurisprudence. The book should be discussed in the article, in a section or at least a sentence. If you care about the book that much, perhaps you could do the work. You agree that See also should be about topics and this book is already mentioned prominently in one of those topics, as representing an important sociological theory of law. I think you have not provided a sufficient justification for including the book in Jurisprudence#See also and therefore I will remove it again, now citing this discussion. Since you are a multi-lingual editor, I would like your opinion. I periodically "save" an article from AfD on a topic I am unfamiliar with. I am currently working on List of game designers, many of who are European. The article lists each developer' most notable games. There are many German developers whose games were released in German--and the agency that selects the best game annually is also German. Some of the these games have articles in Wikipedia with the name translated into English. Others are not in Wikipedia, but are in the awards list in German with the English translation. My instinct is the follow the source and use the langx template (German with an English translation) However, because the source provides the English translation, I could also go with that, this being English Wikipedia. What are your general thoughts on translating titles, whether for a games or organizations, from their native language into English? (I also cleanup articles for WP:FRAT that are translated from Estonian, German, etc. and see real inconsistences in whether the article's name is translated into English or remains in German or Estonian.) My only direction from MOS is to use the common name, but I wrestle with "common for whom"? Rublamb (talk) 20:31, 1 April 2026 (UTC)

@Rublamb I do in fact write about games, including board games, relatively often, so I run into this issue likewise often. If the game has an official English title, we should use English, per USEENGLISH. If there is no official English title, I use original (Polish, German, etc.) and add the most common or accurate English translation in parenthesis or such (same logic as with trans_title parameter in citation templates). I may also use both on case the game non-English name is used in English, or if it is very famous while the official name is very rare due to popularity (case by case basis, I guess). @Mirfaek I have read that article and I concluded that the quality is satisfactory - it does not seem to contain any errors, and references are reliable. There are a few unreferenced paragraphs that the student is not required to translate (but probably will, and I'll tell them they should try to reference them), and zh reviewers are welcome to delete any referenced paragraphs. I just checked two paras that were marked as possibly AI written, and they seem correct (references exist and confirm claims made). So I don't think the problems are severe, and the article would be useful for zh wiki - important topic, and no zh article on this topic at all. _{Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here} 00:22, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

@Mirfaek That's no bother, it's much appreciated. When approving student topics, I try to balance article quality and topics importance, but sometimes some approved stuff is indeed debatable. In either case, feel free to leave the student feedback - maybe in Chinese on their zh wiki talk page (and just ping me for the record)? Quite a few students in my class are not fluent in English.
