List of Cape Verdean writers
Hi Ponyo, in 2022 you deleted List of Cape Verdean writers. What was the contents of this page? I presume it was not empty, in which case the contents should have been merged back to List of African writers by country#Cape_Verde. Greenman (talk) 18:34, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Greenman: It was a list of 15 names, only two of which were sourced. It contained significantly less information than what you would get if you added the names included in Category:Cape Verdean writers and its subcategories to the List of African writers by country#Cape_Verde page.-- Ponyobons mots 18:08, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
Death of Muhammed Shahabaz
As a seasoned editor, do you consider this article (Death of Muhammed Shahabaz) notable? (I know I don't.) Just wondering if it should be PRODded or AFDed. Yours, 65.88.88.56 (talk) 18:40, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
- Tragic? Yes. Notable? I'm not so sure. Generally there needs to be something more than just the crime (e.g. the crime triggering a new law or a new technique used in the investigation) in order for it to be notable. Alternatively, if the crime receives continued coverage over a long span of time, that can lend itself to notability. As currently written, this appears to be WP:NOTNEWS. I don't think PROD would be appropriate though; a full AfD discussion would need to be had. As an aside, what is 70% brain damage? -- Ponyobons mots 18:57, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
- Well, I can't AFD as I am not registered so I will leave it in your capable hands. Don't forget. 65.88.88.56 (talk) 18:59, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

- Ponyo, User talk:65.88.88.56 has a notice that this IP is from the NYC Public Library which was posted in the mid-2000s but that's not where the IP now geolocates to. Which source of information is correct, do you think? Liz Read! Talk! 22:24, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
- The IP is still registered to NYPL with a location of New York, New York, according to the IP information on their contributions page. The assigned description remains NYPL per Whois as well (https://whois-referral.toolforge.org/gateway.py?lookup=true&ip=65.88.88.56). Finally, Spur also has the IP as dfirectly allocated to the NYPL (https://spur.us/context/65.88.88.56). Avoiding an edit war
Hello Ponyo, I see that you are an administrator in the English WP. I am an experienced author in the field of music, especially in clarinet topics, see my user page. I also play the clarinet myself. In the last few years I have written numerous new articles or significantly expanded existing ones in 10 languages, mainly in German, English and French. Yesterday I significantly expanded the English article Clarinet, to which I have already contributed a lot. You can find the text here User:Gisbert_K/sandbox3. Today the user Nikkimaria deleted this extension completely, saying it is too detailed. However, these detailed explanations can also be found in the German and French articles on the clarinet. The German article has been recognized as an excellent article, the French one as a good article. The English article has lost this distinction. My addition was intended to help it regain this rating. I do not agree with the deletion of Nikkimaria, but I do not want an edit war. What should I do, what can I do, e.g. ask for a vote on the article's discussion page? Or what do you suggest? - Gisbert ツ (talk) Illustrate Wikipedia ! 07:01, 28 March 2025 (UTC)

Possible sockpuppet
Hello. Ponyo. I'm very sorry if I am disturbing you, but I have seen suspicion in this user and I suspect that they are a sock of User:Interstate Good:
- Thetree284 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
Most of my evidences are seen on SEWP, hopefully you don't mind:
- On SEWP, both editors seem to enjoy creating articles about British Columbian highways. When HighwayHelper created articles about highways, Thetree284 would edit all of them. (1, 2, 3, and 4)
- Their SEWP userpages (or you can just look at tree's ENWP page) look very similar (5 and tree's userpage)
- Both editors act social on SEWP, and both have posted silly and immature things on their userpages (6 and 7)
Therefore, Thetree284 is evading the block (and Yamla's comment). Could I request a Checkuser to verify the relationship? If the relation is true, could you report tree on m:SRG for global lock? Thanks in advance. 2601:402:4400:3A90:35C0:504E:C233:2C10 (talk) 17:46, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- Also, when you do reply to this, please leave a note on my talk page saying you did so. Thanks. 2601:402:4400:3A90:35C0:504E:C233:2C10 (talk) 18:09, 29 March 2025 (UTC)

- I'm not a sockpuppet, I have alternative accounts called thetree284 (alt) and thetree283. I mostly edit chemistry pages right now, not highway pages. I also didn't evade a block because it is over 6 months after the block (which is on July 5, 2024). My edits are not vandalism and I usually revert vandalism too. So, therefore I'm NOT a sockpuppet of User:Interstate Good, because Interstate Good and Highway Helper are not active anymore on both English AND Simple English Wikipedia. thetree284 (talk and edits) 02:23, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

Potential sock of Andrew5
Could you take a look at Reiner123456789 ? They popped up in my watchlist and their single edit given their lack of experience etc gives me a strong gut feeling they're a sock of Andrew5. A few others have too but this is the one most likely to be, potentially to the point of CUing to check for other accounts. Coming here instead of the SPI page because I currently don't have the time to edit the template properly. Thank you! Departure– (talk) 19:04, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

Hi Ponyo, you previously put check user blocks on two accounts who edited Mandana Dayani. A newly created account has made some removals that is similar to previous edits from those blocked accounts. Not sure if concern is warranted. Best, Bridget (talk) 21:56, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

Sock but which master?
Hey, I believe that Ahad ali 25 is the sock of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Md Sunnat Ali Mollik or Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Symon Sadik. I've seen characteristics (article intersection and the way they construct new articles) of both. AFAICT, the Symon Sadik socks are stale, but there are non-stale socks of the other, including Zunaid Ahmed Oak and Chameliakterhabiba.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:40, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

Fortaleza Airport
Dear Ponyo, once again Fortaleza Airport is under attack. You have already protected it in the past and I remember that not long ago it remained protected for a whole year. A person living in Hamburg, Germany, insists in adding information according to his/her own will. This is not the first time that this person does it; actually this problem has been going on for years. Before he/she used accounts without any information and always erased the talk page (SeasSoul, Mateusportuga, CBG17). Now the person simply uses multiple IP's and whenever someone writes a message on the talk page, he/she erases it. It is very common that an editing war quickly escalates and this is something wikipedia wants to avoid. For this reason, once again, I request your help in protecting the page for a while. Thanks so much Brunoptsem (talk) 23:41, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
Omid Kordestani page protection
In 2015 you gave this page indefinite protection. I think whatever issues are probably moot at this point. Can you lower the protection? WP:PP "The duration of protection should be as short as possible" Czarking0 (talk) 02:49, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Some BLP issues, such as nationality and ethnicity, rarely become moot. The length of protection is determined by both the level and type of disruption, and protecting biographies that have a history of vandalism and BLP violations is of utmost importance. I've removed the protection for now, but have added the article to my watchlist to ensure the change in protection doesn't result in further BLP violations.-- Ponyobons mots 20:52, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

Hey, you've blocked this IP three times as a checkuser block but they're still going with unsourced edits like this. If you could re-block them, I'd appreciate it! More AFC/R redirects
Noting that Pinguinn created 900+ redirects at the behest of our friend who frequents AFC/R. Not sure if you want to address it or let it slide, but thought I'd make you aware since I haven't been very active lately. I left them a message to be careful about these requests in the future, but I blocked the IP as it appeared to be using a VPN anyways. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:14, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- I really don't know how to proceed without buy in from AFC/R. There are two LTAs who have clearly realized that it's a very successful route to evading their bans, and I can't seem to impress upon the editors active there that should not be creating these redirects. It's very frustrating to run around closing windows and doors to keep out the socks when other editors are (in good faith, but misguidedly) throwing the doors wide open again behind me. Thank you for letting me know, and your note to Pinguinn, it's really appreciated.-- Ponyobons mots 15:45, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Completely agree, and I'm not sure how to approach the matter either... I try to monitor the page but I'm not as active as I've normally been. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:20, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
Your opinion on what constitutes a "Gossip" blog
Blabbermouth, Loudwire, MetalSludge, etc are not gossip blogs. And an article discussing a post made by a musician announcing his divorce, with a screencapped image of the post in question, certainly is not gossip. Rather than reverting edits assuming what people are doing is bad faith, I would suggest taking a moment and looking at the source in question yourself. I've reverted the Ashba article. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Downzyisaliar (talk) 16:20, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Per consensus Blabbermouth can be used for reviews and such, but not BLP content. MetalSludge.tv is a website consisting of user-submitted content on who's dated who, relationship status, gossip and the purported penis size of musicians. The original announcement from the musician could possibly be used as a self-published source, but the MetalSludge website in no way meets the reliable sourcing standard required for personal information in biography articles. I implore you to actually read WP:RS and WP:BLP and adhere to them. You continue to edit war to restore disputed content to a BLP, and are skating ever closer to a block in doing so.-- Ponyobons mots 17:16, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

Socking IP?
Hello Ponyo. I stumbled across an IP with a couple of poor edits i reverted, then looked at their contributions ~ Special:Contributions/2001:818:C932:5100:E5F3:2F08:427A:E673 ~ and noticed that in almost every case the previous edit was yours reverting another IP making exactly the same edits. I have gone through and rolled back all of "my" IP's edits, but wonder if you'd mind, if you have a moment, just checking that i have not misread the situation, that both IPs are the same person, apparently socking? Help with bad faith editor
Hi Ponyo, seeking your help with a user (Gillysuitedbookworm) who is engaging in a back-and-forth edit war on the Terrence Howard article. This user is editing the article to (1) list Howard's occupation as a mathematician, philosopher and intellectual, (2) mislead readers into the veracity and wide acceptance of his claims (i.e. stating that Neil deGrasse Tyson praised his work rather than criticize it, falsely stating that an article which raised concerns about Howard's logical thinking were ultimately proven unwarranted etc.) and (3) adjust section headers to (a) characterize unverified educational claims as educational merits and (b) characterize pseudoscientific nonsense as scientific theories. Can anything be done to officially warn this user or limit edit access? I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this user is Howard himself :) Thank you! Agustin IPs
So I've just reported 186.40.148.239 at AIV, as it appears to be Agustin based on what I've mentioned in the report. However, doing some digging around some usual targets of theirs, on The Mangler, I came upon 200.111.61.175, which has targeted/edited many of Agustin's usual articles in the past, and has returned/continued to do so as of March/April, most recently editing on April 25. You also blocked the IP back in September for 6 months, I'm assuming for block evasion. Not sure if if it would be considered stale or not for blocking, but if it is, might at least want to keep an eye out on the IP.
Also, as I've typed all this, 186.40.148.239 has now been blocked. Looking through the archive of Agustin's SPI, I came upon 186.40.175.86 that was blocked back in January. Not sure if there's any range that would be blockable connecting the two of those, but may want to look into that as well. Thanks in advance. Magitroopa (talk) 16:53, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

But the link with the possible i.e. official source added by me a week ago is still in the article in the population table in the top right hand side in the article. What about Canadian population? From where are you taking the data. Let's see Toronto as an example. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto#cite_note-11 And the link where is going? To Government of Canada, National Statistics Office. Then what are you seeing in the links https://nsi.bg/en/content/22305/прессъобщение/administrative-territorial-and-territorial-division-republic-bulgaria-31-december-2024 and https://nsi.bg/en/content/2981/population-towns-and-sex that I am citing? Republic of Bulgaria, National Statistical Institute. How for Canadian city is used one approach and for another Bulgarian town you are blaming in your redo note that the "changed without a corresponding source" when the source is the relevant government agency that is the same as for Toronto's population? 185.76.230.248 (talk) 05:24, 9 May 2025 (UTC) You are proposing "consensus" with a troll ghost that is not going to comment anything and ignoring source from the official government body.
I think that you can call "a dispute" when there are qualitative features. Here are though pure quantitative numbers from the government statistics agency and that's it. Returning to the version with year 2024 is essential to not mislead the readers with obsolete data, so please do so. 2 days in a row the editing troll did not comment anything, so what are we doing when I am losing tone of time to explain axioms and the other "disputer" is even not responding anything but when the article is opened, again will attempt to return? 185.76.230.248 (talk) 05:24, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

- The political articles are a new focus of his, hence why you may not be familiar with it. - I've not known Andrew5 to disrupt political articles, and the IPs editing those articles are from many different geolocations. The very large range you're looking at covers pretty much the entire Eastern seaboard of the US, including many IP editors wholly unrelated to Andrew5 (which is why Izno chose not to block the range). The remainder of the articles (the weather related ones) do seem like Andrew5 behaviourally, but have minimal sock activity. I've blocked a small /64 they are semi-active on, but I don't see any current activity that needs immediate attention.-- Ponyobons mots 16:22, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

Is it a sock or just plain weird?
I was waiting for you to come in. Take a look at the truly bizarre conversation the user and I have had. Also, although not as odd, take a look at User talk:Rosiestep#A bowl of strawberries for you!. Notice that the user asked Rosie a legitimate question in the section above that one. Do you think there's enough here to justify a check? Maybe we'd find out what user was blocked for "distractive writing". :-) --Bbb23 (talk) 22:22, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- They've been blocked a few times as an IP for disruptive editing. That being said, the only edit they made using the named account while the most recent (hard) rangeblock was in place was the creation of their user talk page, so there is no evasion. It's probably a good thing they created the account, it will be easier to monitor them for further disruption.-- Ponyobons mots 22:34, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

Volt Ireland
May you please remove, or lessen the protection on Volt Irelands page, I believe that all parties should be able to have a page for the good of public awareness, especially with the context of Volt Europa, which requires broad European support to achieve their goals — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xanix1000 (talk • contribs)
- Given the history of that article, I won't undo the protection. Wikipedia has articles on notable subjects written neutrally by volunteers unaffiliated with the subject in question, not for "public awareness". Given your history of copyright violations, an accepted draft is needed. You can work on it Draft:Volt Ireland (in your own words please!).-- Ponyobons mots 20:05, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

History of Vietnam
This article has a very long history of persistent vandalism by multiple accounts and IP addresses (sock puppets of Phạm Văn Rạng). It is currently temporarily semi-protected, but I would like to request permanent semi-protection as it is an important article. I fear that this important article will be vandalized as soon as the protection expires. This is a very important article, and there have been many vandalisms by many different people, Phạm Văn Rạng is just a recent prominent vandal. A proper protection for this important article is deserved. 2401:D800:299:74F5:3E8C:C793:37E7:DE41 (talk) 23:17, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

IP-block exempt status?
Hi @Ponyo,
Although I'm happy to go through the email channels if a direct request isn't kosher, I'm posting here to inquire if you could extend my IP-block exempt status again. I edit almost entirely from my home, which has a stable IP (this one). But I do some volunteer work for a woman's rights group currently most active in Mexico. It's all nonviolent and (from my perspective) pretty basic human rights stuff, but volunteers have received death threats. Someone on their rotating IT staff instituted a universal VPN policy for security. I live in the U.S. where the justification makes little sense, but switching back and forth between stuff for them and stuff for WP (when I had to do that) inevitably resulted in some slips. It just makes editing easier for me if I can leave the thing on all the time. You can easy to verify that I edit under my real name, and I hope that my edit history establishes me as a trusted contributor.

You protected this page last year. Do you have some background (UPE, SOCKING, etc.)? I was starting to create this but if it is tainted from bludgeoning paid editors I will delete and move on. CNMall41 (talk) 16:43, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
- @CNMall41: It was definitely a UPE target and the last person who tried to create it, Cassigad, is globally locked for long-term abuse. That being said, if you think you can make a go of a decent neutral article I don't see any issue with moving your draft to article space. If you do move the article, can you give me a ping? I'll probably lower the protection to semi-protection if a viable article is in place.-- Ponyobons mots 17:09, 12 June 2025 (UTC)

It's not a priority but I see some COI editors over the last couple years in various pages for "feuding billionaires" so thought I would create the associated pages that are notable for each and watch them for NPOV. Redirect sock creations
FYI, The Fat Director and LOSE (TV series) were both redirects created via requests at WP:AFC/R (, ), both coming from 2803:C600:8101:9EC4:0:0:0:0/64 , which has already previously been blocked once for block evasion of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Agustin Sepulveda Venegas 2004 Fan. Should these redirects get deleted? Magitroopa (talk) 21:43, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
- Also just saw Abraham Simpson II is another requested from them as well: . Magitroopa (talk) 21:44, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
- Reblocked the range and deleted the redirects. I'm just back today and have spend so much of my time reversing AfC/R and AfC/C requests. All created by well-meaning editors who don't know they're being used for nefarious purposes, but running afoul of WP:PROXYING. One of the accounts was even named NoSocksAllowed and no one even batted an eyelash when (re)creating their cats.-- Ponyobons mots 21:52, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Ponyo, could you please post a note about this issue at WT:AFC so at least reviewers are aware and include a couple or so examples (especially if the titles were previously G5 deleted)? It is a problem but I am not so sure reviewers know about this tactic. S0091 (talk) 18:07, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, something definitely needs to be noted regarding this. Just came across WP:AFC/C#Category request: Category:Animated metafictional television series, WP:AFC/C#Category request: Category:Animated comic science fiction television series, and WP:Articles for creation/Categories/2025-06#Category request: Category:Cartoon Network sitcoms, all requests from currently-blocked 2803:C600:8101:9EC4:0:0:0:0/64. Also pinging Destinyokhiria, as one of those requested categories ('Category:Animated metafictional television series') has just now been created. 'Category:Cartoon Network sitcoms' also needs to be deleted. Magitroopa (talk) 18:53, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- I didn't know about the issue, when I was reviewing the category. Destinyokhiria (talk) 18:59, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- I have done this in the past, but the creations just continued. Or a new group of enthusiastic volunteers join AfC/R or AfC/C and the redirects and categories are just recreated. I only reverted these ones because I came across them; the problem is so incessant and prolific that I don't even bother to monitor the request pages anymore - nothing I have done has made any difference whatsoever. It's the same two sockmasters - one requesting cartoon-related categories and another requesting comic-related redirect creations and categories. I've never seen a request come through for cartoons or comics at the AfC pages that have not been from one of these two socks. NinjaRobotPirate used to monitor the creations as well, but I think he's given up too.-- Ponyobons mots 21:32, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- Adding: I just want to make sure that no one thinks I'm blaming the AfC crew in any way; all creations have been done in good faith. It's just a huge loophole for socks that I don't know how to close.-- Ponyobons mots 21:41, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Primefac @Asilvering any suggestions? S0091 (talk) 21:39, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- I didn't take at all you were blaming AfC. I agree it is a loophole. S0091 (talk) 21:53, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- Wide range blocks that partially block the request page can work. People could try to get the AFC/R contributors to get more involved in SPI, too. Our tools are kind of limited, though. I personally don't quite understand why we have this page. Anyone can create an account for free and do this themselves. Creating a page where people can request someone else do it seems kind of dumb to me. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 22:15, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- I too would simply like to see AfC/R shuttered. I don't think redirects are so greatly important that we need to preserve IP editors' ability to create them, and I think the process wastes a lot of volunteer time. -- asilvering (talk) 22:40, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

I just reverted another addition at the request of a banned editor , they're already blocked. But if memory serves we're supposed to empty the category before G5ing it, and I'm going to be busy for a bit here, so if you could roll it back I'd appreciate it. Speaking of socks using AFC/C, take a look at the last discussion at User talk:ColonelBatGuano where they say they have had accounts and edited as an IP but keep getting blocked "for years". Any clue who this is? S0091 (talk) 14:35, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
- It's not TotalTruthTeller messing about, which is what I thought at first. They're not currently blocked as far as I can see, so unless they feel like sharing links to their previous accounts or IP edits, we'll just have to judge their current edits on their merits.-- Ponyobons mots 17:27, 18 June 2025 (UTC)

You might as well fully block this user, 100% vandalism, WP:NOTHERE. Thanks 162 etc. (talk) 16:41, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- I've blocked the IP for 72 hours for the continued addition of unsourced (and in some cases dubious looking) content to articles after a warning. There's no point in blocking longer as the range is very dynamic and will likely change in short order. If you're looking for the range that is subject to multiple partial blocks to be blocked site wide, I'm not sure how likely that is to happen due to the size of the range and potential for collateral.-- Ponyobons mots 17:00, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
Another block for 2001:8F8:1DD3:B8C3:D998:1353:4648:EF09 ?
Hello Ponyo. I noticed 2001:8F8:1DD3:B8C3:D998:1353:4648:EF09 had been topically blocked by you on 13 June 2025 as shown on this page. I just reverted two more of this person's edits here and here with a warning on the person's Talk page here. I haven't checked this editor's history and wonder (1) if the two edits I reverted are typical and (2) whether another block is appropriate. Thanking you for your service and with best regards, Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 02:28, 26 June 2025 (UTC)
- This is the range in question, which is huge. I've added a few more articles to the partial block, but we may need to start looking at extesnive semi-protection once we hit the article limit for partial blocks.-- Ponyobons mots 16:16, 26 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. Not familiar with block vs partial block - can’t this user just be blocked entirely? Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 00:19, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- 2001:8F8:1DD3:B8C3:D998:1353:4648:EF09 is just one IP within a range. The disruptive editor has access to this entire range of IPs which they cycle through with each log in (sometimes multiple IPs within a log in!). The potential for collateral on such large ranges is very high, so we tend not to block highly dynamic /32 IPv6 ranges site wide unless they are used primarily by the disruptive editor or other options (such as partial blocks from specific articles) have proven ineffective. As long as the Wikimedia Foundation continues to place the ideal of open editing by anonymous editors over the integrity of the encyclopedia, this level of disruption will continue ad infinitum.-- Ponyobons mots 17:09, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation Ponyo. I agree wholeheartedly and don't know why the Foundation doesn't just only allow registered editors especially as it is so easy to do. Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 19:13, 27 June 2025 (UTC)

Block of Finniegion
Hey, just a quick note on your block of Finniegion states the reason is "Long-term abuse". The block seems very warranted, but the account was only created today, so the reason stated looks incorrect. The account did seem like a sockpuppet though, so maybe I'm misunderstanding what "Long-term abuse" means in this context. Just thought you might want to add context to the block in case more issues with this person come up. Cheers - Ike Lek (talk) 23:14, 26 June 2025 (UTC)
