Rosie and @Victuallers, it's always a good idea to have Rosie's talk page on your watchlist. It's so gratifying to know that we're not alone in thinking that this incident was b********. The admin in question did email me the deleted sandbox, so we're dropping it with them and moving forward. Any further ideas/suggestions for how we should do that? I think we have to decide whether we continually raise the bar concerning the quality expected from new users. If our project is considered to contain everything (now) then we need to restrict our user base to high priests and those who swear loyalty to the MOS. If our project is incomplete then we need to work out how we preserve the freedoms that allowed us to go from nothing to everything in football, us/uk politics and blokes in English... so that we can deal with the rest of the world and other minorities. We still have whole areas of missing stuff. The appeal for me is the freedom to make mistakes and to wonder as we allow value (and a bit of order) to emerge from disorganisation. I'm not sure we can sell the appeal of memorising the MOS before doing as you are told. Victuallers (talk) 19:13, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

Is it all right to have both those values? Now, I'm weird and an English nerd, so I read some of the MOS when I first started. But I made loads of mistakes, which fellow editors corrected, but with kindness while directing me to the policies I had broken. Yes, we need high quality here, but in the context of a community in which we help each other be and do better. That's the context under which I learned to edit and now I create high-quality content. Bullying others to stay within a preconceived way to achieve that doesn't work, and hurts the project in the long run. I looked at the admin's talk page and saw that they delete a lot of content, especially in sandboxes, which frustrates and drives new editors away. Is that the best practice for admins? So then I thought I'd share some of my treasure with you. Elizabeth Hetherwick was an orphan abandoned in an industrial school in the highlands. She became a missionary (when you needed to be a bloke AND an adult.) She went to David Livingstone country and married a s**t. After he was justifiably killed, and buried their children, she married again and became the "first lady" of the country she had helped to create. She then left that to care for her children. She was reunited with her husband before he died. What an amazing life ... and it's now out there! .... and you have done that 2,500 times. Superb Rosie. Well Done. Hi, so while I was attempting to learn how to make a sandbox, I accidentally created a page that was just Quillqueso/subpage name. I've been using it in place of a sandbox to practice edits to an article, but finally went back and made an actual sandbox. I'm an admin so I'm able to delete User:Quillqueso/subpage name, and I'll do so this morning.

Are you aware that the article Hunter Library already exists (appears to be the same Hunter Library as your draft)? Ergo, if indeed it is the same entity, you can't create a new article about it, but you can start adding to the current article immediately. If it's a different library, then when it moves to mainspace, it would be named with a differentiator, e.g. Public Library (Budapest), Greenville Public Library (Rhode Island), Carnegie Library (Montclair, New Jersey), or Boston Medical Library (1805–1826) depending on the circumstance.

As for User:Quillqueso/sandbox: take a look at a few of my sandboxes: User:Rosiestep/sandbox, User:Rosiestep/sandbox2, User:Rosiestep/sandbox3. I'm sharing this so that you see that you can have multiple "sandboxes".

Your "sandbox" is actually a "subpage" of your userpage, and you can have multiple subpages like this, User:Rosiestep/Tools and this User:Rosiestep/WVS Northeastern University and this User:Rosiestep/New articles (2026). --Rosiestep (talk) 15:16, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

Lastly: As you can have multiple "sandboxes"/"subpages", in the future, consider drafting articles in spaces that are named like this: User:Quillqueso/Hunter Library. This naming convention is a common approach by many editors. My whole life on this side of wikipedia is COI proposed edits related to the biography of my son Jordan Harrison (dramatist). His biography is two years behind his ever changing career, most notably due to the non-inclusion of the recent broadway run of his play Marjorie Prime. People have been helpful and I keep making errors in how to frame and format. Will you look at my latest COI proposed edit to see if I finally did it right. I used the template. However, your request was denied with the message: "Some or all of the changes weren't supported by neutral, independent, reliable sources. Consider re-submitting with content based on media, books and scholarly works.". Ergo, if you want someone to comply with your request, comply with the request.
2. I'll add the {{COI}} header to the article as you've stated (appropriately) that you have a conflict of interest.

Regarding the article Marjorie Prime (play).

1. You followed the correct process for requesting edit changes to the article, except you wrote them on a different article's talkpage: Talk:Jordan Harrison#COI Proposed Edit Due to Completed Broadway Run of Marjorie Prime. But no worries, I added a link to your COI request; see my comment here: Talk:Marjorie Prime (play)#Marjorie Prime Broadway Update. Again, the response from the reviewing editor is a request for sources.
2. There is undue amount of information about the play in the Jordan Harrison article. That information needs to shift into the article about the play. At some point, either I'll do it or someone else will.

On the article denying my requested edits on the Jordan Harrison. I did respond to the denial, citing different sources than the rejected IDMB and New York Times. I cited the Goodman Theatre and Playwrights Horizons. It is too early to have academic sources. I want to comply with the request. Was there a denial of my response? Maybe I put it in the wrong place.

I think my biggest problem is that it is an old article that could use several modifications. Partly due to me making errors, I am getting a slow start.

My father and uncle were involved and though it is not my intention to mention them the wider issue needs updating. (The article I intend to correct is well written - it just starts at a later stage and misses much of what happens). Thank you for your quick response! As I said : 'it is not my intention to mention my father and uncle'. I have dug out two books written just after the war, now out of publication, written by two soldiers involved. In my humble opinion they are both reliable sources. The writer of the Wikipedia article has not read the books or he would have, I'm sure, given far more detail than he has. I'll come back with more once I have amalgamated what I have into the current article. I will reference their books and any specific parts that I use. One author has definitely passed away and was single so no children that I can find. I'll have to check on the other author. I'm a long time reader, but a new editor on wikipedia. Over the last few weeks I've been trying my hand at editing, and also submitted a new article for approval, but all of my efforts have been rejected by the same editor. They are citing concerns about LLM use, but I have reviewed wikipedia's policy and understand that LLMs are permitted to be used, if used exclusively as a copy editing tool, which is how I have handled the use of LLMs in all my wiki writing efforts thus far. I also want to emphasize that all the sources I used were found through organic research, and are of a strong, verifiable quality.

I'm hoping to get a second opinion on this matter. If you could provide some more constructive feedback about how the edits I made can be salvaged, I would greatly appreciate it.

The explanation that the commentator gave you on the Draft:Bar Italia (Toronto) page, "Lack of wikilinks and high number of linkless print sources is suspicious." is reasonable and solvable. Ergo, my recommendation is to comply with the requests: (a) add wikilinks to other articles, and (b) add the URLs so that the sources can be verified (which syncs with your statement that the sources are of "...strong, verifiable quality"). Then request another review.

Hi Semorra and welcome to Wikipedia. The messages on your talkpage here and here explain why the image is being deleted: it is a non-free use image that does not appear in an article. Wikipedia's image use policy requires non-free use images to appear in an article. A draft, e.g. Draft:Driventic, is not an article. If/When Draft:Driventic becomes Driventic, that would be the time to upload the image and add it to the article.

A friendly FYI regarding Draft:Driventic: The first sentence should explain what the company is. For example: Driventic is a German specialist company for efficient drive technologies. It was spun off from .... (This is just an example of what to write. I don't know what is the correct description.)

• No worries about early errors; everyone makes a few when they start out.
• We're all volunteers, which means that no one has to keep an eye on any article, or their talkpages, or act on requests on talkpages if they do bother to look at the talkpage.

That said, there are multiple editors who made comments on the Jordan Harrison talkpage, so you might:

• make another request on Jordan's talkpage and ping these editors, or write a 1 or 2 sentence request directly on these editors' talkpages (just as you've done on mine) with a link to the article's talkpage, and/or
• write your 1-2 sentence request on the talkpages of the editors who edited Jordan's article in the last couple of years

Don't ping an editor twice, e.g., on the article's talkpage and on the editor's talkpage as that could be perceived as WP:SPAM.

Hi Finrod and welcome to Wikipedia. Great question. The answer is nuanced as Confirmed accounts ("... 10 edits to the English Wikipedia and after 4 days have passed since the time of their first edit...) can do so, too; read this to learn about Confirmed and Autoconfirmed editor rights.

As you seem ready to write your first article, here's how to go about it.

But having reviewed the comments on your talkpage, I think the best advice I could give you in this mentor/mentee relationship is: learn how to edit before creating an article so that when you do create it, it gets approved quickly. Make small edits -lots of them on lots of different articles over some period of time- first. With each edit, you'll learn something. At the same time, review the articles in the category which the article you want to create would be added to. For instance, as you mention "historical entity", if you want to write an article about a historical site, spend a bit of time reviewing articles in the subcategories of Category:Historic sites. Maybe the article you want to create would fit in a subcategory of Category:Former buildings and structures in Europe or Category:Disestablishments by type and century. By way of example: the first article I created was Book League of America. Before I created it, I reviewed the articles in Category:Book publishing companies of the United States, noting how they structured their lead paragraphs, use of headers, category assignments, types/qualities/quantities of references, etc. That was back in 2007. If I were to create it today, I could just review the articles in Category:Defunct book publishing companies of the United States (which was created in 2009).

The best way to edit pages (pages for all topics, not just for Africans) is to improve the pages slowly but surely. Fix things that need fixing, e.g., typos. Add things that need adding, e.g., categories, headers, references. Expand the article if it would benefit from being expanding, e.g., by using more up-to-date reliable, secondary, inline citations.

How someone becomes an editor is by making constructive edits. One at a time. Learn how to edit existing pages before attempting to create a new article so that when you do create it, it gets approved (and doesn't get deleted). Make small edits -lots of them on lots of different articles over some period of time- first. With each edit, you'll learn something. Review the articles in the category which the article you want to create would be added to. For example, review the dozens of articles in Category:South African poets and gain awareness of what the article you create should include.

In the meantime:

1. I see that you're working on a draft article here: User:StewartMcgregor/sandbox. When you're ready to have it reviewed, move it to Draft:Onalerona Seane. If/when it gets approved, one of the volunteers at Articles for Creation (AfC) will move it to Onalerona Seane. I don't work in the AfC area so I don't know how fast or slow the process might be, but be patient because everyone is a volunteer.
2. I see that you've added three WikiProject templates to your talkpage. Please remove them asap as those templates are only to be added to an article's talkpage, e.g., Talk:Onalerona Seane.

Hi Rosie, I spoke to you a few weeks ago (here) after becoming a new mentor, and you gave me some valuable advice. It's been going OK (I guess), but some of the questions have been a bit odd. One person wanted to know how to make a complaint to channel 5, so I just ignored that one! Many people just want to know how to create an article, and I suspect they want to promote something, and there's a COI issue there. It seems very premature, as I think you need to first get to grips with the basics of Wikipedia editing before you can attempt to get an article published here. The question I have for you now is this... When someone asks me a mentorship question on my Talk page, what's the best way to get their attention? I've replied to quite a few that have just never got back to me, and although I've pinged them in the reply, I'm not sure if they're getting the message. I've now started posting my replies on their Talk page (with a link through from their original question on my Talk page) to give them every chance of seeing my reply. It's a bit frustrating when you get no response after you've tried to help in some way! P.S. I have over 250 mentees, which is a bit alarming, but most of them won't even know I exist. I only focus on the mentees who write a question on my talkpage, and I respond in the same place, with a ping. Some write a follow-up message; most don't. When I don't hear from them again, I figure that they saw what I wrote and it sufficed.

If the mentee writes on my talkpage, but it isn't a question, I give some thought on whether or not to reply. An example of how I treated the situation today is here.

If there's no "welcome" message on the mentee's talkpage, I add it, though I vary which one I choose. Other than that, I don't commonly write on the mentee's talkpage unless there's some incident which dictates it (example here).

You're right; many mentee questions are about creating a new page. Example of how I commonly respond here.

(Also, look at other biography articles and you will see that numbers 10 and less are spelled out, not numeric); "He is Lebanese descent from ..."; "As Marcelino's vision, he ..." (Also, look at other biography articles and you'll see that after the first instance, do not use given name, instead use surname); "Marcelino does not share publicly ..."; "Marcelino keeps his personal ...".
• There are issues with two headers: Look at other biography articles and you'll see that there shouldn't be a header above the lead paragraph (so remove the header named "Dr. Marcelino Gebrayel"). The header named "His Published Courses" should be renamed "Selected works".

One of the newest was implemented March 20th, and as I noticed this reviewer feedback regarding the submission at Articles for creation of Dr. Marcelino Gebrayel, I should reiterate that the use of AI/LLM is prohibited in articles and talkpage comments.

I do not have any relation to the accounts that you have referred to are not mine and do not know who are they to. However i have mentioned in from of friends that i am trying to publish a wikipedia about him, we know him from far not as close or personal knowledge therefore i think that might be the case. The idea of making him a page on wikipedia is because he made a therapy session to my friend that helped her a lot in her life and it is someone that is good for people to meet and get his help. I am open to any change in the article as I am publishing alone and would appreciate your mentorship. I do like to be a writer but never had the courage to post any of my writings. Maybe this would be a start.

I do not commonly edit articles that a mentee is working on but in this case, I did add the infobox. I leave it to you to flesh it out. If it isn't easy to do it while in VisualEditor mode, switch to Wiki Markup mode.

My thinking that you had another account name were based on your statement that you "... tried to publish 1 year ago ..." and the other account created Draft:Dr. Marcelino Gebrayel. Ergo, I though you were one and the same. Hi:

I'm not trying to edit anything myself yet, but the page, "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Austin_Metcalf", not only is title itself prejudice, the editing and disclosed information regarding the trial and case is prejudice. There is no mention of there being an all-white jury, the judge themselves having a history of rushing his cases and labeling himself as "straightforward" when there's clearly racial bias and the evidence of the instigation and the late teen literally reaching into the bag, Anthony being teamed up on by 2 white teens. Also the fact that Anthony willingly turned himself in and was concerned for his harasser, the history of being Black in the US/the killing and targeting of Black children and teens, the history of racism in the Texas judicial system, and it being his first offense of any kind and a literal teenager who acted in self-defense was never considered in the case or the page at all. Wikipedia is known for it's attempts and checks on being unbiased and considering all sides. So, it should be changed to "The Karmelo Anthony Trial" and there should be separate pages for Karmelo Anthony, Austin Metcalf, Hunter Metcalf, and Judge John Roach Jr.. If you can aid me on how to best edit this and apply my citations, it would be incredibly helpful. Regarding making changes/additions to the article Murder of Austin Metcalf: Start by reviewing the article's talkpage (Talk:Murder of Austin Metcalf) beginning with the very top of it, which states "Warning: active arbitration remedies". Then read the comments made by others and see if what you want to change has already been addressed. If it hasn't been addressed or if you have new information (with a URL) regarding something already addressed, start a new section on the talkpage with the changes you wish to implement, along with a URL for each fact you want changed or added. Regarding what types of sources can be used, review this.

Regarding renaming the article: Start by reading this. If you still feel you want to make a case for a title change, you can get some feedback at the talkpage of WikiProject Crime and Criminal Biography. If you still want to go ahead with suggesting a different name, start a second new section on the Murder of Austin Metcalf talkpage making a case for why you want it changed and offer alternatives.

Regarding how to edit the article: Again, see the top of the talkpage which states, "This page is protected. You must be logged-in to an autoconfirmed or confirmed account (usually granted automatically to accounts with 10 edits and an age of 4 days)". Until you meet this requirement, you won't be able to edit the page. But you can write on its talkpage. Ergo, gain experience editing other pages on Wikipedia.

Hi Physmatlov and welcome to Wikipedia. What a wonderful contribution that will be! When I began editing (2007), there was no VisualEditor, and I found it easy enough to work with wiki markup even though I had no experience with HTML. That said, my understanding is that VisualEditor is much easier to learn.

The key word I want to emphasize is "learn". There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia in general, e.g., how to add a reference, etc., so my recommendation is to make small edits first on other articles till you feel you have the hang of it, e.g., perhaps some of the articles in Category:1888 non-fiction books or Category:1894 non-fiction books before doing the heavy lift of creating a new one. Let me know if you experience any hiccups along the way.

Hi Ayesha Basheer and welcome to Wikipedia. Your edits are impressive for a number of reasons: quantity, quality, diversity.

Regarding areas where you might focus more: While it's an interesting question, there is no right or wrong answer. Everything you're doing is useful. Wikipedia has a plethora of "maintenance tags", e.g., {{orphan}} (the articles so tagged dump into Category:Orphaned articles from June 2026 and earlier months), {{one source}} (the articles dump into Category:Articles needing additional references), etc. There are >34K articles in the Category:All pages needing cleanup because of these maintenance tags. Focusing your next thousand edits on any of these would be great so long as it gives you joy.

What I'd recommend you consider next is joining a WikiProject that interests you and work on the articles associated with it, e.g., Wikipedia:WikiProject Education, Wikipedia:WikiProject Literature, Wikipedia:WikiProject India. Keep an eye on the WikiProject's talkpage to see what those editors are focused on. Eventually, join the conversation.

About 6 months after I started editing, I joined my first WikiProject, Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthroponymy. The topic fascinated me, not because I knew anything about it, but because it opened up new things to think about.

About 1 year after I started editing, I went on a campaign to add missing commas. I added hundreds of them because it unnerved me to notice sentences that should have a comma and didn't.
