The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:

• BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,175 round points, mainly from sports-related articles, including 17 good articles, 27 did you know articles, and 9 in the news articles
• Arconning (submissions) with 1,090 round points, mainly from articles about athletes and politicians, including a featured article on Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 9 good articles, 28 did you know articles, and a wide assortment of featured and good article reviews
• AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) with 854 round points, mostly from a high-scoring featured article on the Indian leader Rani of Jhansi and two good articles, in addition to 13 featured and good article reviews

Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.

In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).

Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. @Farkonas: Per our guideline on autobiographies (WP:AUTO), it is strongly discouraged for editors to create an article on themselves, as this is conflict-of-interest editing (WP:COI).

White's article was not written by herself; in fact, her account has not edited the article even once, according to the page history.

Normally, if a subject meets out notability guidelines, an article will be written sooner or later.

Hello. I've given money for years and did mild editing. Mostly spelling really. I only joined because I got a rude message for apparently misspelling someone's name and was accused of vandalism. Now I was on the verge of just leaving the site (and never giving another dollar) when I thought that maybe joining the site would lead to more civil responses to my own errors. I'm not giving any money until I see how this works out. (Of course, I have to wait until I make another error to find out). I'm sorry, but I am just in a foul mood after today's events and it's not the first time. Regarding your edit: The user who warned your for vandalism was not necessarily a "moderator" as you say. Many ordinary users help out with anti-vandalism efforts on a daily basis. My recommendation is to reply to the user's message, asking them how that was vandalism.

@Eruditti&: Wikipedia does not have control over external search engines, such as Google. It may be possible that Google just hasn't seen the page yet. However, as previously stated this is not in our control.

Thanks for your reply, but your response contradicts what I have been told by other sources. They said new articles are reviewed before allowing Google to include them, and this process can take up to 90 days.

Also Google apparently scans new web pages all the time, so not sure why they wouldn’t see this page.

If he really does meet our notability guidelines, some neutral, uninvolved editor should create an article, not someone with a conflict of interest. Hi it makes sense. But I wanted to not do it necessarily for personal reasons. More that his tragic story is still relevant today as his album "Today I Laid Down" is posthumously pressed on vinyl. While not a celebrity in the true sense he did leave a mark on the younger community. The vinyl profits are handled by the parents and donated to Sweet Relief. All of whom has sources as well as where he is buried. I just wanted to give this young man a chance to reach a wider audience through the power of the Internet. It's all he ever wished for. Okay I'm sorry for asking but how popular does a person need to be in order to qualify for a Wikipedia page? That part is unclear as I sometimes see Wikipedia articles for artist and topics that are very obscure. I think his story is a good advocate for good mental health as the profits of his EP are donated to a charity doing that. I think it's an informative piece in that sense. Hello and thank you in advance. Some months ago, I made major improvements to the Climate of Albania page. It became one of the most detailed climate articles I’ve seen, which fits my area of specialty. I was away for health reasons and hadn’t yet finished my work, which I planned as part of a series for every country, starting alphabetically with Albania.

Climate articles on Wikipedia are often extremely limited, especially for less well-known countries like Albania some are just one sentence (e.g“It has a tropical climate.”). My goal has been to change that with comprehensive, sourced coverage.

Today I found that user Gnomingstuff removed about 18,300 words from the article, with the edit summary “rv to pre-AI version.” This was done 4 days ago. While I did sparingly use AI tools, it was only to improve readability and style. The content and sources were entirely my own work, and I painstakingly reviewed not only every single claim but every single word hundreds of times. At no point did I copy-paste original AI output everything was checked, rewritten, and verified for accuracy. I understand why it may have looked AI generated I am still new, and all of my work has been done from mobile since my PC was out of service. I barely know how to format, add links, or pictures (mobile tutorials are almost non-existent), so I may have made mistakes that gave the wrong impression.

If you have time, could you please look at my version? I believe it is far more detailed and engaging than the current, much drier version. I would greatly appreciate your advice on how to restore my contributions without them being reverted, and how best to present this on the Talk page.

@Shamanimals: To me, some of the content that you have added shows signs of AI writing.

One strong example is the sentence "The breadth and continuity of the Cfb climate across Albania’s upland terrain underscore the intricate interplay of topography, moisture transport, and atmospheric circulation, which together contribute to the country’s unusually diverse climatic and ecological landscape." in this edit.

I'm also finding that a lot of your additions seem to be unsourced.

If you'd like to learn the basics of editing Wikipedia, you're welcome to do so; see Help:Introduction. However, I'd like to say that it's still the text that's giving me the impression of AI writing, not any of the formatting mistakes or other mistakes you may have made.

Hello, I've been planning on making a big edit to the page "Humility". Basically I want to take the last subsection "Humility and leadership" and expand it to something like "Humility as a character trait". I was wondering how I can make a sort of "draft" that I can "edit" wikipedia without really editing it so I can see how edits will look before they publish. New releases

English Wikipedia gets "Add a Link" Structured Task

We released the "Add a Link" Structured Task to 100% of accounts at English Wikipedia on Tuesday, September 2nd (before then it was available to 20% of accounts).

Growth features for Wikidata

After examining if the Growth features and Mentorship could be adapted to Wikidata, we activated the Growth features on Beta Wikidata to allow for testing and discussion (T400937). Although some features, like Suggested Edits, are Wikipedia-specific, the Growth team designed most features to be more wiki-agnostic.

Work in progress

Revise Tone Structured Task

The Growth team is making progress on the technical architecture, onboarding design, and early user testing. We are targeting an A/B test before the end of this year, with constructive edits by newcomers as the primary success metric.

Add a link to more wikis

The machine learning team has been working on a new model that can suggest links to more languages, including Urdu, Chinese, and Japanese Wikipedias. We are starting to release the “Add a Link” feature to Wikipedias that weren’t supported by the previous model.

Add a link, which can be configured by the community locally, increases the chance that a new contributor will make their first edit and then continue to participate in Wikipedia.

Research

The Growth team is involved in several research initiatives to help guide our future work:

Progression System – We have published initial findings from interviews with 10 English and French Wikipedia newcomers. The research examined motivations, challenges, and feedback on a prototype system intended to help editors build confidence, develop skills, and contribute more constructively over time.

Mobile Web Editing Research – This project combines quantitative and qualitative data, community feedback, and user journey analysis to identify possible ways to enhance the mobile editing experience.

Newcomers Survey – This project surveys successful newcomers on English Wikipedia to understand their early editing experiences, tool use, and community interactions.

Community events

The Growth team participated in several community events to listen, share, and collaborate on improving newcomer experiences across Wikimedia projects.

Wikimania - Organizers as key partners to support newcomers' growth in our movement

This session invited organizers to share how they introduce newcomers to Growth features and the challenges they encounter. The discussion focused on common newcomer questions and opportunities to strengthen collaboration in supporting new editors.

Wikimania - Lightning Talk: Structured Tasks

This talk demonstrated how Structured Tasks help newcomers take their first successful steps on Wikipedia. It shared impact data, community configurations, and a demo of “Add a Link,” illustrating how these tasks make editing more accessible and sustainable, particularly for mobile contributors.

Wikimania - Building a Sustainable Future for Wikimedia Contributors

With active editor numbers declining, the Contributors Strategy aims to create a clearer, more engaging path for participation. This session, led by the WMF Contributors group with involvement from the Editing, Growth, Moderator Tools, and Connection (formerly Campaigns) teams, highlighted efforts to streamline contributor experiences, offer structured and mobile-friendly workflows, and foster meaningful engagement. Participants learned about ongoing initiatives and shared feedback to help shape a more inclusive and sustainable future for Wikimedia contributors.

CEE Meeting - Retaining beginners and improving content moderation: an inclusive and sustainable future for Wikipedia contributors

Many communities face a decline in volunteer engagement. Newcomers often leave soon after joining, while experienced editors struggle to manage increasingly complex workflows and overwhelming backlogs. We presented the Contributors Strategy and the different features and workflows that can help communities to address these challenges. We listened to the specific needs of the CEE communities to help guide the Contributors teams' work.

If you are trying to create your user page, which provides information about yourself to other editors on Wikipedia, you can only create the one with your username.

However, you may create draft articles with different names than your username. You can create a new draft at WP:AFC.
