Question from Muhammad Ishtiaq ishii (11:01, 29 December 2025)

Hello, I am new to Wikipedia and yesterday was my first day contributing. I tried to translate an article into Urdu, but it was not published. I am still learning how to translate properly and follow Wikipedia guidelines. I can work continuously for many hours and want to contribute sincerely to serve my community through Urdu translations.

I would like to know where my translated draft is saved so that I can continue working on it. Also, I want to ask whether my translated articles will be published once they meet the required standards.

Thank you for your guidance. --Muhammad Ishtiaq ishii (talk) 11:01, 29 December 2025 (UTC)

Greetings. I don't see any other edits from your account, so unfortunately it might have been lost. The recommended process is to save it as a Draft article, for example, if the article Cat was not ready for publishing it would be at Draft:Cat.
The blue button might say "Publish changes", but you'll use it whenever you want to just save any kind of changes, such as on a draft.
Additionally, you have to manually request review of your draft once you feel it is ready; it will not be automatically published.
Thank you, ~ Rusty meow ~ 15:38, 29 December 2025 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from Leeminhotep (13:33, 1 January 2026)

I don't have a particular area I want to start assisting in yet, but is there an area of Wikipedia that needs particular attention now?

I am currently a recently out of work editor for a national media org, so I'm pretty strict with my verification work. I just wanted to help out Wikipedia, because I've been donating for a little while and feel like I should also donate my time. --Leeminhotep (talk) 13:33, 1 January 2026 (UTC)

@Leeminhotep: Welcome to Wikipedia!
Wikipedia is always in need of attention. You can check the Task Center for some more beginner-friendly tasks to do. You might also want to read up on guidelines such as Reliable sources, verifiability, and neutral point of view, should those differ from what you're used to.

Question from Thebinliner (15:29, 9 January 2026)

Hi Rusty, good to meet you.

I was trying to submit a new topic about Alan Sparrow of The UK Picture Editors Guild. Can you help?

Cheers

Bret --Thebinliner (talk) 15:29, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

RustyBot 4 (re)tagging articles that already use Template:Episode table

I recently updated https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bokurano_episodes to use {{Episode table}} and removed {{Convert to Episode table}}. A few hours later RustyBot 4 re-added {{Convert to Episode table}} despite the article having one.

The bot uses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Alex_21/sandbox/No_episode_table to decide which articles to check. This seems to be a manually maintained list. Might it be possible to use https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Articles_lacking_Episode_table_templates instead? This at least is automatically updated based on the presence of {{Convert to Episode table}}, though it may lag the article changes a bit.

From reading the bot source at https://github.com/rustykitty/rustybot-mw/blob/master/task_3/bot.py I don't see any checking if the article has {{Episode table}} before adding {{Convert to Episode table}}. Adding such a check seems like a good idea. I suspect it can't be done in a 100% reliable way (there may be multiple lists in an article) but most articles could be handled automatically and the remainder flagged for manual checking.

Also, and purely my opinion on a cosmetic issue, adding an end-of-line to the '{{Convert to Episode table}}' string would make it clearer that any following tags are unrelated. I accidentally removed {{Use mdy dates|date=December 2022}} from the Bokurano article, though that's more to do with my inexperience than the bot.

Regards, ~2026-22963-2 (talk) 00:04, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

@~2026-22963-2:
The thing with Category:Articles lacking Episode table templates is that it's placed by {{Convert to Episode table}} itself.
Regarding checking if there's an episode table on the page already, I could check if it already has {{Episode table}}-I'll post this on the BRFA page though, not sure if it's significant enough a change to warrant consensus
I did just push out a change though, making sure to add a newline after the template.
Thanks! ~ rusty meow ~ 01:19, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from ScrubbedFalcon (16:24, 17 January 2026)

Hi! I added a question to the teahouse before I realized that wiki assigns mentors. I thought I might just ask if you had any input for me on the question I asked there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Teahouse#Combining_pages_and_adding_sources --ScrubbedFalcon (talk) 16:24, 17 January 2026 (UTC)

@ScrubbedFalcon: Merging all three articles is definitely a good idea! If you're not sure about whether there will be consensus to perform the merge, you can start a discussion, as @DMacks also suggested in your Teahouse post. On preserving the edit history, one way to do it would be to just blank and redirect the other pages (e.g. if you merge the articles for the double and triple knot into the Fisherman's knot article, you could redirect the former two into the latter).
Happy editing, ~ rusty meow ~ 23:12, 17 January 2026 (UTC)

Requests for approval/RustyBot 3

Hey, Rusty Cat, just visiting about Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/RustyBot 3, saw the latest edits performed by the bot via Special:Contributions/RustyBot. Just noticed a false positive in the bot's edits here, in which the bot added {{Convert to Episode table}} despite the article already using the correct episode table (albeit via using the module directly with {{#invoke:Episode table|main}} rather than {{Episode table}}). Perhaps just an additional case to add to the bot's checking? -- Alex_21 TALK 22:52, 19 January 2026 (UTC)

@Alex 21: Hello! Per this reason the bot does not check whether {{Episode table}} is already being used on the page. Thanks! ~ rusty meow ~ 01:31, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Ivorymimosa (13:03, 21 January 2026)

Hi Rusty Cat, I work for an arts orgnisation and someone has pointed out that their wikipedia page has an old logo. I'd like to upload a recent logo to their page, and have the permission of the Gallery, but I can only do it by relinquishing the copyright. This is a non-free file / the gallery would like to keep the copyright. How can I do this? Thanks --Ivorymimosa (talk) 13:03, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

@Ivorymimosa:
On the File upload wizard you can choose the option to upload a non-free image. Then be sure to choose "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use." and fill in the boxes that appear.

Question from V1gilL on Riverside Health (17:44, 21 January 2026)

I can't really see what the problem is with this page besides the underlined names, does Wikipedia usually tell you what is misspelled or should I keep more of an eye out? --V1gilL (talk) 17:44, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

@V1gilL:
Not sure what you mean by underlined names, but on Riverside Health there is a banner at the top of the page saying "this article has multiple issues". If you're not in edit mode you can click the links (e.g. in the phrase "too closely associated with the subject") to get more info about how to fix that issue.

Question from Goatmint (12:00, 22 January 2026)

I'd like to claim credit for a contribution made before I created a Wikipedia account. The temporary account username is ~2026-47733-0, and the contribution was made at 11:53, 22 January 2026 to the Admissions section of the page for Colgate University (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colgate_University#Admissions). How would I go about claiming credit for this contribution? --Goatmint (talk) 12:00, 22 January 2026 (UTC)

@Goatmint: Unfortunately, for technical reasons there is no way to reattribute edits to another user.
As such, there really isn't a formal process to "claim" an edit; I edited several times before creating this account. If you want to link to it on your user page, that's alright.

@MedSourcesCheck: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!

My post is to ask other editors to correct the article. If no one does it, what should I do. The article has error and outdated legal status. MedSourcesCheck (talk) 18:13, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
@MedSourcesCheck: This may be because it is a less-known page. To gain more visibility or feedback you could post it at the WikiProjects listed at the top of the Talk page, Wikipedia:WikiProject Pharmacology and Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemicals. If you still don't get a response and know how to do so, you can also edit the page yourself. ~ rusty meow ~ 22:36, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
Both Wikipedia:WikiProject Pharmacology and Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemicals are labled Low Importance. Will that impact visability? MedSourcesCheck (talk) 23:03, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
@MedSourcesCheck: That shouldn't impact visbility. The importance label does refer to the priority the WikiProject gives the article, but by posting it on the Talk page of the WikiProject itself, someone is bound to see it. ~ rusty meow ~ 15:52, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Safer roblox (07:59, 24 January 2026)

@Safer roblox: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. I'm not really sure what you mean by an "about me free", but if you want to create an article on yourself, this is the wrong place. We require all articles to meet the "notability" guidelines before they are accepted.
On an unrelated note, your username "Safer roblox" may violate the Wikipedia:Username policy. It gives the impression that you are either associated with Roblox or you are trying to promote safety on the Roblox platform. You can change your username at Special:GlobalRenameRequest.

Question from Pjones5683 on Tony Sewell (18:04, 29 January 2026)

Hello, I was wondering if changing the sentence "Sewell's parents arrived in the United Kingdom from Jamaica in the 1950s." would be better as "Sewell's parents immigrated to the United Kingdom from Jamaica in the 1950s." in Early life and education, or if that could come off as an attempt to highlight this person's parental immigrant status unfairly. Thank you --Pjones5683 (talk) 18:04, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Tegene Kunbi senbeto (23:55, 7 February 2026)

Tegene Kunbi

Tegene Kunbi (born 1980) is an Ethiopian contemporary artist based in Berlin, Germany. He is best known for his abstract paintings that incorporate a "material archive" of traditional Ethiopian textiles and heavy oil paint. In 2022, he was awarded the Grand Prix Léopold Sédar Senghor at the Dakar Biennale, and he is the official representative for the Ethiopian Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026.

Early Life and Education

Kunbi was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He attended the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design at Addis Ababa University, where he earned a degree in Painting and Art Education in 2004. In 2008, he received the prestigious DAAD scholarship, allowing him to move to Germany to study at the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK). He completed his Master of Fine Arts in 2011.

Artistic Style and Philosophy

Kunbi’s work is characterized by a "dialogue of substances," blending geometric abstraction with the physical textures of textiles. His practice is deeply rooted in his Ethiopian heritage, specifically the "Wax and Gold" (Sem-enna-Warq) philosophy and the use of religious and utilitarian fabrics. His project for the 2026 Venice Biennale, titled "Shapes of Silence," explores silence as a political and spiritual condition within the Ethiopian psyche.

Major Awards and Recognition

Why this draft works for Wikipedia:
Neutral Tone: It avoids "peacock" words like brilliant or legendary.
Verifiable Facts: It lists specific years, degrees, and awards that can be checked by editors.
Notability: It focuses on your Dakar Grand Prix and Venice Pavilion, which are the two "golden keys" to Wikipedia notability. Tegene Kunbi senbeto (talk) 00:00, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

Arbitration

  • Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.

RustyBot tagging with Episode table convert template

Just to let you know, your bot has been tagging quite a few pages with the {{Convert to Episode table}} template even though they have already been fixed. I believe it was requested you use User:Alex 21/sandbox/No episode table, but this list is not necessarily always up to date, I believe Alex_21 updates it with some script every few months. I have been going through fixing templates in the category, but if his list has not been updated, then they will all be retagged. I tried to remove a few today that were in my watchlist, but they got tagged again already. You might want to wait until Alex_21 updates his list, otherwise the ~500 articles that I have fixed will all be tagged again. Ajheindel (talk) 01:37, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

@Ajheindel: Thanks for letting me know! I'm not planning to run the bot again anytime soon unless a run is re-requested. As a side note, I'm compiling a list of pages that have both a tag and the table at User:RustyBot/Pages using Episode table tagged with Convert to Episode table, though note this page does take a while to generate.
Thanks! ~ rusty meow ~ 06:18, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from 67mangoboituffmustard (16:16, 26 February 2026)

hello rusty cat! so whenever i make a edit on something, does it have to be cited or at least noatable enough? like being covered by a news site? --67mangoboituffmustard (talk) 16:16, 26 February 2026 (UTC)

@67mangoboituffmustard: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!
Yes, everything has to be cited and verifiable (except for well-known facts like "the sky is blue"), but you don't necesarily have to go as far as making sure every sentence is notable. Another way of thinking about that second part is that stuff is mentioned in an article that doesn't have it's own article because it's not notable enough it's own article.
As a side note, I read your userpage, and if you want to change your username, you can! Use either Special:GlobalRenameRequest or WP:CHU/S.
Happy editing, and feel free to ask again if you need more help/have more questions! ~ rusty meow ~ 23:55, 26 February 2026 (UTC)

WikiCup 2026 March newsletter

The first round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As some of you may have noticed, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. This point increase has been retroactively applied to all good article reviews for which competitors have claimed points in this round. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 1 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 300 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 7 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 168 good articles, 13 good-topic articles and more than 50 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 14 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 700 reviews. The tournament points table will be updated within the next few days.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
