Strange page denial Draft:Hapi-Line_Fukui

Why was this page denied. I was just about to start creating the page when I discovered that the page already existed in draft form. Can you please re-consider it? Ergzay (talk) 04:52, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

@Ergzay: When I reviewed the draft at that time, there were only 3 sources. The third one was a secondary source and I took that into account for notability, but the first two are primary sources which cannot count into WP:GNG. I believe another person has added more secondary sources such that notability is demonstrated, and I would be more likely to accept it in its current state. However since I reviewed this draft already I think it's better to let another reviewer take a look. S5A-0043Talk 05:08, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
I see, I'm not familiar with draft review (I have the ability to publish pages myself so have never gone through the process), what's the process to get it restarted? Or is it already in queue? Ergzay (talk) 05:16, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Someone else has submitted it for review already, so yes it's already in the queue. You can continue to improve it, expand it, add more sources etc in the meantime, but if you're satisfied with the current draft then there's nothing you need to do. S5A-0043Talk 05:19, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Ok, thank you. I've already made a few edits to update it to current. Ergzay (talk) 05:47, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
Well because the review took too long someone bypassed it and created the page directly and now the page history is lost. This review process really seems to be broken. Ergzay (talk) 01:06, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
Well, it's a frustrating thing for us reviewers too. S5A-0043Talk 09:06, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi S5A-0043. Thank you for your work on Shanghai Bus Route 13. Another editor, North8000, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Normally a bus route doesn't fulfill wp:notability and shouldn't be an article. I think that the TV series connection and related sources move this up into an edge case and I'm marking it as reviewed. Happy editing!

Removal of station layouts in MRT stations

@S5A-0043 Please elaborate on the statement you mentioned, "Platform layouts on station articles are not considered acceptable on the English Wikipedia". It's there in other metro systems like Hong Kong's MTR (Admiralty station (MTR)). Please revert back the previous value and let the station layout reflect in the page so that readers will get to know. 61.12.82.214 (talk) 01:42, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

There was a discussion at here in which a consensus was formed that platform layouts should not be used in most cases where the layout is relatively straightforward. This includes the majority of the stations in Singapore, where the majority of the stations have an island platform layout. I consider HK's Admiralty to be a layout which is not "relatively straightforward" due to factors such as the cross-platform interchanges between the Island & Tseung Wan Lines, and the multiple floors the station has. However, some stations such as Cheung Sha Wan station do fall afoul of this consensus as a simple layout, and I would opine that they should be removed. S5A-0043Talk 03:31, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
S5A-0043, This is regarding few stations that are elevated. There are underground stations (current and upcoming) which have many floors beneath. So they should be added. 61.12.82.214 (talk) 13:48, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Take Potong Pasir MRT station for example. The station has a concourse floor at B1 and an island platform at B2. I don't see how that constitutes "many floors beneath" (it's only 2 floors), or anything that cannot be described in a simple prose manner. The same applies to pretty much all of the articles in which I've reverted your edit. If you had added it to Marina Bay MRT station for example, I would've considered that acceptable, because of the complex links between each of the lines. S5A-0043Talk 14:19, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
@S5A-0043,
So let me know if it is okay for adding to complex stations more than 2 storeys. 61.12.82.214 (talk) 07:10, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
You can add those if you wish, but (I should've mentioned this earlier, anyways) you also need to cite your sources on the platform layout. Something from the official SMRT/SBST website or LTA would do. Unsourced layout diagrams are equally likely to get removed by others. S5A-0043Talk 09:27, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

Which LTA Datamall data set to use for MRT station daily passenger at infobox?

I'm editing Lakeside station to prepare it for GAN and was wondering which specific data set in the LTA Datamall should be used to cite the number of daily passengers in the infobox. Currently, the link in the citation just leads you to the main page of the website. This is also a recurring issue for other MRT articles as well. Thanks! Icepinner (formerly Imbluey2). I added those figures upon request by ZKang and cited them in the style seen in Woodleigh MRT station (also upon their advice). With the exception of the archive link which I newly added everything else is the same, including the website link which leads to the main page. You may want to consult them for further instructions as I also do not have access to the dataset itself (ZKang provided me with the figures directly). Constituency recreated

Hi there~! Welcome to the messy world of political updates~! Please note that prior to 1988 Singaporean general election, all the constituencies are just XXXX Constituency and that election created SMCs and GRCs. Some Constituencies lived on as SMC and then abolished and recreated. If they existed as a SMC, we can reuse their old SMC article. If they only existed as XXXX Constituency, we create a new article as it is technically a brand new SMC. Thanks! ~ JASWE (talk) 06:20, 12 March 2025 (UTC)

In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Danners430 (talk) 08:25, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

@Danners430 Per WP:NFCC #1, non-free images should only be used where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose (emphasis mine). In a 2024 FfD (which I initiated and which ended in no consensus) some participants suggested that the image be replaced when the train is within the UK for testing in publicly accessible areas. In the edit summary, I provided a link to a Flickr image which shows the train undergoing testing on existing Piccadilly line tracks, indicating that a free equivalent could be created. Therefore, the image no longer complys with WP:NFCC, and should be removed. S5A-0043🚎(Leave a message here) 08:31, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
Ok - so it should be removed from commons. That’s a different process. And if there’s an alternative image available, why aren’t we adding it? You’re not replacing the image - you’re removing it without the promised replacement… Danners430 (talk) 08:37, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
And if the replacement is in Flickr, then the replacement isn’t free for use as it currently stands, is it? The copyright holder of the Flickr image would need to upload it to Commons and give it a free use license… Danners430 (talk) 08:40, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
The NFCC criteria states (and I bolded it above) "could be created". That means the possibility that a person takes a photo of the train and uploads it to WP, not whether someone has actually done it yet. S5A-0043🚎(Leave a message here) 08:41, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
Some of the photos I've seen of the trains being tested/moved have not been taken from publicly accessible locations (i.e. the stations are closed as the trains are being tested). The trains are also being stored in a location that is not publicly accessible (Ealing Common Depot) so no photos are coming from the location either.
Is there harm in waiting a few months for a free image to inevitably appear without trespass being necessary? Turini2 (talk) 09:24, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
Yet there are photos that are taken from publicly accessible areas outside the station. Take this Flickr image for example. I did a little digging and it appears this particular file was taken from a bridge along Queen's Drive, a road nearby. Are you telling me that the road was closed while the train was undergoing testing, such that it is not a publicly accessible area?
And as for Danners, I believe I've explained too many times, it is the possbility that matters. Whether it actually is the case is irrelevant. Can a person take a photo of the train? Yes, as demonstrated by the Flickr files I provided. Can a person release it under a free license? Yes, by changing the licensing on Flickr. Case closed.
If need be, I'll start a FfD on this matter. S5A-0043🚎(Leave a message here) 09:44, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
Never mind, I uploaded a freely licensed image from Flickr. Reading the guidelines at WP:NFC, restrictions are only placed on photos "of a structure on inaccessible private property that is not visible from public locations." The train is in a place "visible from public locations" so there should not be any issues. S5A-0043🚎(Leave a message here) 11:51, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
@S5A-0043 Thanks for getting an image that resolves this issue! :) Turini2 (talk) 12:07, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
You're welcome. Glad we could end this saga on a common understanding. S5A-0043🚎(Leave a message here) 12:20, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
The key word there is “free” - if a user has uploaded it to Flickr, then by default it falls under copyright, so it’s not free. Every image has the potential to be uploaded to Commons as a free image - but it equally has no chance of the copyright holder doesn’t want to upload it.
If an image existed somewhere that was already under a CC license, then I’d be in agreement - then it only takes someone (anyone) to upload that image to Commons. But a Flickr image is copyrighted, just like yours. Danners430 (talk) 09:25, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

understandable

Yeah, I was worried that my article would be declined. I thought it would be valid because I didn't know about sustained coverage. Understandable, have a good day! --DollarStoreBa'alConverse 15:05, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

Airport destination lists sourcing RfC

Hi there,

I'm leaving this message because you contributed to the recent RfC regarding the inclusion of airport destination lists. As promised, now that that RfC has closed, I've initiated a further discussion about the sourcing standards to be applied to these lists.

If you wish to contribute to the discussion, please do so at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Airport destination lists - sourcing requirements.

Cheers! Danners430 tweaks made 15:38, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
