​Give me an hour or two to look into it. Maybe you were right all along? Maybe the use of dmy in the article was well-intended, but is contrary to normal styling practice in the area. Since you have started a talk page discussion, it would look better not to rush things, i.e. not changing the date format again before someone has joined the discussion and agreed. That would be so great. The practice of using the default formats as mentioned in the article's talk page have been used in many other articles in the area. Also, every time I change it back, there are some users, particularly 218.250.200.1, always jump in to change it to dmy. I don't know why, this happens every time, but they could have just minded their own business. I don't know if the discussion will attract at least somebody, especially when I've also put it in Talk:2025 Pacific typhoon season, but hopefully I receive good replies. The reason I made Sokolac Fortress (Bihać) in the disambiguated location is because this descriptive suffix is fairly arbitrary. Several others listed at Sokolac (disambiguation) could also be described as "fortress", it just so happens that whoever made some of those other articles didn't use that word. --Joy (talk) 20:53, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

A descriptor is not necessarily used in the article title. Should any of the articles listed at Sokolac (disambiguation) be moved to Sokolac Fortress (xxxxxx)?

Sokolac Castle has been at that title since 2008.

Those two articles are the only two I think come close to "fortress". Looking at hr:Sokolac (razdvojba) and sh:Sokolac (razvrstavanje), I don't think there are any imminent competitors for the title Sokolac Fortress, but should that become the case in the future, we can disambiguate. I don't understand what you mean, specifically based on those examples - the Croatian and Serbo-Croatian disambiguation lists say "utvrda" in reference to the one near Brinje, a word which is typically translated as - "fortress". Just because @Dr. Blofeld happened to name that article "castle" in 2008, and nobody ever bothered to move it, that doesn't mean it's not conventionally understood as a fortress just as much as the one near Bihać or the one near Sokobanja.

And that's the other problem - Brinje and Bihać are actually pretty close by. For the average English reader, who is not aware of the finer details of geography of this region, 65 km of distance isn't enough to help easily distinguish.

Note also that the name of Soko Grad reinforces this because Grad (toponymy) means basically a fort or a fortress.

This all just seems plainly ambiguous to me. We might as well use Sokolac (fortress near Brinje), Sokolac (fortress near Bihać), Sokolac (fortress near Sokobanja) (in the latter case as a redirect). --Joy (talk) 07:17, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

I think we should use article titles based on policies and guidelines on English Wikipedia and disregard the fact that the article on the Serbo-Croatian Wikipedia is placed at sh:Sokolačka tvrđava kod Bihaća (lit. 'Sokolac Fortress near Bihać') despite sh:Sokolačka tvrđava (lit. 'Sokolac Fortress') being redlinked. And as of now, I do not see a need to disambiguate Sokolac Fortress. If you believe otherwise and believe Sokolac Castle was mistitled by Dr. Blofeld, maybe a discussion or RM at Talk:Sokolac Castle would be beneficial to get input from other editors. I was addressing you from the point of view of the English Wikipedia. The average English reader cannot distinguish these buildings based on one being "castle" and one being "fortress", because that just does not match the practical reality. It's an editorial choice of words, one that doesn't have a lot of actual meaning. You brought up the foreign-language Wikipedia coverage, but it just reinforces the same point. I don't think we need a lot of input from other editors, we just need to apply the fine WP:V and WP:AT policies. Can we find e.g. the preponderance of reliable sources saying the one near Bihać is always referred to as "fortress", and likewise the one near Brinje referred to as "castle"? I don't think we can. This matters far more than the history of editorializing by various Wikipedia users (including myself). --Joy (talk) 09:56, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for creating Dancing, Alone. I'm sorry to hear that your Internet connection went out. It is good practice to upload images first and then add the file name to the article. That way, we avoid having redlinked file names in main space. In this case, the file name was added 01:28 and removed again 03:06, after I had checked your local uploads to see if the error was due to a misspelling.

All in all, there is little to worry about here; should it happen again, just undo the editor who reverted you, when you find time to upload the image. Happy editing, Sam Sailor 19:36, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

If the primary sources currently used in Draft:Burnham Elementary School District are all there is, then it may prove a challenge to write a sourced article that goes much beyond a one-liner. Could other articles in Category:School districts in Cook County, Illinois serve as inspiration? Since the district only holds one school, did you try to search for sources about the school rather than the district?

Hello, Sam Sailor. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

• When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
• All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
• A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
• As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
  • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
  • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

• Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
• Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.

Impact for administrators

• It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
• It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
• Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

• Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
• Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
• See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

• It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Enable the user info card
  • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
• Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
• Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
• The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Hi Sam, hope you've been doing well! I've been recently getting back into patrolling CAT:MISSFILE after not having much time for Wikipedia for a number of years. I just rediscovered the uw-uploadfirst template that you created (which is super useful and I'm definitely going to start utilizing it again!) back when we were working on this in 2018. Looking at the template, I was thinking it might be useful to split this idea into two different templates. In its current state, it seems to lean more towards explaining why external images can't be linked on Wikipedia, but I've been running into a number of missing files that are a result of users simply uploading non-external images incorrectly. Since you were the one to create the template, I wanted to get your thoughts on if you think a second template focusing on how to correctly upload non-external files might be useful. Hi Sam, I agree {{uw-uploadfirst}}'s original wording covered both the issue of external images and users uploading non-existent files. However, I feel these are two separate issues. Many new users add non-existent files to pages that are not necessarily links to external images. I think it is unnecessarily confusing for new users to have {{uw-uploadfirst}} worded in a way that attempts to cover both issues when both aren't always relevant to the situation. The wording of {{uw-uploadfirst}} mostly focuses on external images, and I think it would be more effective if it just tries to cover that one issue, rather than also trying to be worded in a way that could also vaguely apply to non-external images.

From patrolling it every day, the vast majority of the issues that pop up there are new users who are unfamiliar with how to upload images. From communicating with some of these new users who are struggling to understand Wikipedia's complex image policy, having simpler, concise wording that addresses a single issue (rather than multiple) has seemed to be the most effective way to get them to understand what the issue is. January–February 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol
New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points. The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026. The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability. Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive. Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants. Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points. Streak awards will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds. Barnstars will also be awarded for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive. Interested in participating? Sign up here.

@Alaexis: I have not used User:Polygnotus/Scripts/AI Source Verification.js to an extent that I could offer much feedback. I see it now redirects to your script, User:Alaexis/AI Source Verification.js, and I have updated my scriptManager.json accordingly.
