New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
Hello Shellwood,

- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.
- Reminders
- Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
- There is live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- If you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

CSD C1 notifications
Hello, Shellwood,
As you probably have observed, I tag a lot of empty categories for CSD C1 deletion. Several editors who work primarily with categories have asked me to not send them speedy deletion notices when categories they have created become empty because they create so many categories and they aren't that invested in the fate of particular categories they might have created years ago. I've noticed that you do a lot of category creation so I'm asking if you would also like to have these notifications stop. Or, it could be, that you care if a category you created becomes empty and you want to make sure that it hasn't been emptied out of process. Either way, it would be great if you could let me know whether or not to skip these notifications.
Thank you for all of the great work you do on the project! Liz Read! Talk! 19:15, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Liz: Hi Liz and thanks for reaching out. Yes I do a lot of wanted categories patrol and I don't mind if the categories are up for speedy deletion when empty, it comes with the territory. You can stop sending me notifications, it will probably mean less work for everyone. Shellwood (talk) 19:52, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- Well, thank you for doing duty with the Wanted Categories list! When I worked with the list years ago, it was sometimes hard to tell what red link categories were valid new additions to the category hierarchy and which ones were categories that some new editor just made up! I'll uncheck the "Notify page creator" box on Twinkle when handling empty categories for you. Hope you have a great weekend. Liz Read! Talk! 01:09, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

Why deleted Mohammad Talib Shah
Please tell me what's the reason of deletion of Mohammad Talib Shah page Sameer481 (talk) 17:08, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Sameer481: Look at the discussion that is taking place. The nominator has raised concerns over the subject's notability. Is there a significant coverage about Mohammad Talib Shah to be found? Is this coverage found in reliable sources? Does the subject meet the criteria? One piece of advice, never use user-generated material when you create articles about living people. I understand that this can be a lot of information to digest, but the issues must be addressed if the article is to be kept. If possible, I suggest you try to improve the article according to the established guidelines pointed out in the discussion above. I can't be of any further help since I have no knowledge of this person, good luck! Shellwood (talk) 18:26, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
Actually his name known as Mohd Talib lots of movie's or article available on Google . Unfortunately mohd Talib draft name already created with another person that's why I created his full name [Mohammad Talib Shah]] is it right or wrong ? Sameer481 (talk) 04:32, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

Category:Educational organizations disestablished in 1989 et al
Pardon me for stopping by when I am not quite sure of the purpose of this category - but if it's for educational organisations which have gone out of existence, "disestablished" would not seem to be be the right word. My understanding is it means that something was actively withdrawn: a Ford dealer which became independent may be described as "disestablished" from the Ford dealership network, whereas a Ford dealer that went out of business would instead be (e.g.) "closed". In British English at least (not sure about other varieties) I don't believe it has a meaning which is the opposite of "established" Dorsetonian (talk) 19:10, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

About your category edits
Hi.
I noticed you edited 3 of my recent AFDs with maintainence updates. I assume they were some template that needed fixing, or an AFD Category tag or similar. Can you explain what it was? d t Also, I used Twinkle to make those AFDs. So I wonder if it's simply a problem of updating Twinkle Soni (talk) 14:34, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
