March 2008 Butthole surfers edit

Regarding your edit sometime in March on the Butthole surfers. You say they were not Hardcore punk in their early days correct? I noticed you deleted that little tidbit that was thrown in there.I think you should really hear the stuff they made in their first first years. Just listen to the 1982 demos and tell me those werent pure hardcore. If you can find them. And if not hardcore, explain to me, what genres would the songs "Hate my Job" and "Suicide" go under?

regards.

Dignity (album)

Hi. Regarding your edits to Dignity (album): in accordance with Wikipedia:Manual of Style (flags), flag icons should not replace country names in single and album article infoboxesthey are meant to help the reader rather than decorate, and removing the country name will prevent the reader from learning quickly what country each flag is representing. Also, Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums states that only the earliest known date that an album was released should be specified in the infobox, with additional dates listed in a "Release history" section in the article. Hi, the recent edit you made to Once Bitten (album) has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thanks. Flag icons in info boxes

Hi, nice work, but just a note that per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (flags)#Summary, point 4:

"Flag images, especially flag icons in biographical infoboxes, should not be used to indicate birth or death places, as this may imply an incorrect citizenship or nationality."

I think they're not for use in band info boxes either, but I'm not certain, so I've left a note for someone who will know at User talk:John#Flag in band info boxes. Tyrenius (talk) 16:15, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for all your good work, SlayerXT. The MoS is ambiguous about flags in band infoboxes but there is a project consensus not to use them this way. There is no extra information in  United States that is not in United States. Best wishes, --John (talk) 16:27, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
The thing to remember is that as an encyclopedia for adults, we mainly rely on text to get information across. We also need to cater for people with low bandwidth, disabilities etc. Another problem is that of over-emphasising nationality, which using the flag will do. In general, we don't use things just because (in some people's opinion) they make the article look nicer. See also WP:PRETTY. Best wishes, --John (talk) 16:45, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your consideration. Let me know if you need help with anything in the future. --John (talk) 17:26, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Please read Template:Infobox_Musical_artist#Origin before adding any more flagicons to band infoboxes like you did to Betzefer. Aspects (talk) 19:37, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
This time read Wikipedia:Manual of Style (flags)#Not for use in locations of birth and death before you add any more more flagicons to biographical infoboxes like you did to Dan Andriano. Aspects (talk) 20:47, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Handy hint

As a courtesy to other editors, it is a Wikipedia guideline to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, and WikiProject pages. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and the date will then be automatically added along with a [[timestamp] when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). For further info, read Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines.
