Please review what defining categories mean. You seem to have eagerly overcategorized Category:20th-century Liechtenstein people in the 19th-century when they're not defined in the 19th-century. For example, Franz Xaver Hoop was born in 1886, buy he shouldn't be added to Category:19th-century Liechtenstein people, because he wasn't defined by being active in the 19th-century. ^SMason_Garrison 00:21, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

So why did you remove most of the categories from Category:Hans Brunhart, for example? Neither of the policies you linked would suggest that to be the case. Category:Hans Brunhart is an eponymous category. I recommend looking at Wikipedia:EPONCAT for policy guidance. An eponymous category should have only the categories of its article that are relevant to the category's content. I was likely a tad overzealous, but Recipients of the Order of Merit of the Principality of Liechtenstein doesn't apply to the vast majority of the contents, particularly, Premiership of Hans Brunhart. ^SMason_Garrison 01:31, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

I noticed you just added heads of government back to them but that doesn't answer my question. Category:Presidents of the United States specifically has a the individual articles in that category, but then the centuries one has both the indvidual article and their respective category. Ok, so the categories applied to eponymous categories, as a rule of thumb, are ones that would apply to the contents within the category as well. So for the Hans Brunhart category, I don't think that the 21st/20th heads of government category would apply because the contents of Hans Brunhart also includes :Category:Premiership of Hans Brunhart. ^SMason_Garrison 04:09, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

For clarity, I do not think that a Liechtenstein election falls under NOTNEWS, nor would I ever make that claim. In fact, I am an inclusionist editor who broadly supports letting more things on to ITN and letting more articles continue to exist on the encyclopedia as opposed to deleting them over notability concerns... so, my view is the precise opposite of the position you have accused me of holding in bad faith. Rather, I was using the most recent thing we had posted to ITN as an example to illustrate that the standard proposed my Masem is, in my opinion, too onerous and a misinterpretation of the NOTNEWS policy. This is because the very high bar "enduring notability" threshold, if applied consistently, would need to capture both smaller-scale elections as well as mass-casualty accidents. Nowhere at all in that rationale is a statement that Liechtenstein should not be on Wikipedia or that those articles don't deserve to be here. Thanks for reaching out. Admittedly, I am now more confused on what you are trying to say. I interpreted this as you saying that elections in smaller elections, such as Liechtenstein, should not be put on ITN due to them not being as notable as say other countries. I do apologise for my response being rather brash, but it rubbed me the wrong way. If this is not what you meant then it would be great to clear this up.

Happy to clarify. I said,

"I would argue that a sizeable chunk of even our ITNR items, such as the recent Liechtenstein elections as one example among many, do not come anywhere close to meeting the overly high bar of enduring notability which you describe."

When you read the full thread in context, it's clear I was using the Liechtenstein election article as an example - to demonstrate my view that Masem's proposed interpretation of WP:NOTNEWS is too restrictive. I never suggested that the article you worked on should not exist or is not notable.

To your second and unrelated point, I had a genuine quality concern about the choice of image used. I can see you've improved the article now though, so I am happy to go adjust my comment... that's all I was asking for. And no, we do not always accompany the newest blurb with an image (for example, not all of the blurbs below the current top blurb had a corresponding image). We regularly discuss whether an image is appropriate depending on the context, and that can include corresponding discussions about quality of the image/article. Expressing those concerns is the point of having ITN discussions.

With the utmost respect, you bringing this up now despite these two things being somewhat unrelated sort of makes it seem like you are accusing me of bad faith in another unrelated discussion out of anger or retaliation that I expressed a quality concern about articles which you worked on (Haas/2025 Liechtenstein Election). I understand why you brought up quality concerns regarding the Haas article, but your point was still not relevant to the nomination. As I and other editors pointed out, there is no quality requirement for non-bolded articles, and using suitable images for new ITN items is standard practice. I'm happy to hear that you have verified the sourcing and statements. My concern however is that the article reads rather unnaturally, as in a substantial amount of the text does not feel like something a human would write.

For example, "This dilemma has since shaped China's foreign policy, energy strategy, and maritime security posture, prompting efforts to diversify energy sources, develop alternative transportation routes, and strengthen diplomatic and military capabilities to mitigate potential disruptions to its economic lifelines."

Also "China has also accelerated naval modernization and expanded its maritime presence to ensure trade route security. These enhanced naval capabilities have allow China to conduct more extensive maritime patrols and respond to potential threats on the Strait of Malacca."

I don't know how exactly to explain it, but LLMs like ChatGPT tend to use peacock words that don't really add anything to what it writes and is easily spottable when applied. Honestly, I would just avoid using them at all and just write it yourself. It saves a lot of effort verifying everything and avoids the text seeming unnatural like this. In the review I stated I would've preferred the article to be Defense, but that it wasn't a huge dealbreaker. Gaunt (2006), Gerçek (2014), Çetinoğlu (2017), Dolbee (2023), and these English online articles (Seyfo Center, Svenska Dagbladet, SOUF, Armenian Mirror-Spectator) use defense with an S. Lingius (2015), Gaunt/Atto/Barthoma (2017), Talay and Barthoma (2018), Gaunt (2020), and Akdemir (2023) use defence with a C. John Mitchell (1777-1841) and his half-sister Mary Stewart-Mitchell are both certainly not irrelevant/non-notable, most Mitchell’s descend from John Mitchell and Mary married the son of General D’Urban and her son has a page of his own on the German Wikipedia. (I’ve forgotten the name off the top of my head). The other two don’t seem as notable from my research (especially as one sadly died at 1 years old), so I removed the other two and only kept it as those two. Thanks for your a understanding. January–February 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol
New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points. The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026. The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability. They are cropped only to give a focused view and/or to make it balanced for DYK. I'm fine with a minor crop to make the proportions better (e.g. too long), but what you did was far too much. You zoomed in on the face way too much and changed the proportions dramatically. Notice how the examples you provided are still portraits with a reasonable amount of background around them? Thank you for the feedback, I have reliable sources(such as official election results posted by Sweet Grass County and official information posted by The City of Big Timber). I do understand the feeling that it could just be combined with the Big Timber page, but I like to encourage the idea that small towns can achieve things(like wikipedia pages for their elections) if they give it their all. As a person from Big Timber many people have asked me to do this and I have tried finding more sources(but they don't really seem to exist because we are such a small community), I ask you to review it just one more time with this new insight. Backlog update

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

2024 and 2025 NPP Awards

JTtheOG was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.

Hey man im josh and MPGuy2824 won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

January–February backlog drive
