Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.
For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.
The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. - Following the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: CaptainEek, Daniel, Elli, KrakatoaKatie, Liz, Primefac, ScottishFinnishRadish, Theleekycauldron, Worm That Turned.

Featured List nominations
Hey there, I saw that you were a frequent reviewer at Featured Lists. I have two lists that are pending and seem to be going nowhere. I thought Ukrainian Figure Skating Championships was about wrapped up, but it seems to be stuck in limbo. And I nominated European Figure Skating Championships a little while ago and have received only one set of feedback. Perhaps if you have a chance, you could take a look at them and let me know? Thank you so much! Bgsu98 (Talk) 23:54, 18 February 2025 (UTC)

- @Bgsu98: I left reviews on both nominations, I know it's not much, but I hope they're helpful. I suppose I'm slightly more knowledgeable, I typically just seem to have trouble reviewing articles that aren't entertainment-related. 😅 TheDoctorWho (talk) 05:22, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- I appreciate your input and your votes of support. Public interest in figure skating peaks every four years, and that peak is about one year away, so I want these flagship articles (Worlds, Europeans, U.S., and Canada) at featured status by then. Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:04, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: Being completely honest, I don't think I ever realized it was such a huge deal outside of the Olympics. Regardless, don't hesitate to drop me a message if you ever need a review on any similar (or even completely different) lists!!! TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:50, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- I really want to get The Amazing Race 1 to featured status, but that's not a list, and I think featured articles are actually more difficult to get passed. Anyway, Canada is ready to go once these two are processed, with Worlds probably very close. I'm working on U.S., and Estonia may need only a little bit more work. And Germany... God bless their record-keeping; they made sourcing so easy. 😉 Bgsu98 (Talk) 22:02, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: I always tell people there's a reason why I only have one FAC 😅. I'm sure TAR1 could get there eventually. It looks rather decent on a first glance, but there is some room before it'd be at FA standards. I'll try to keep my eyes on the FLC page for those then, I'm usually there at least once every other day. TheDoctorWho (talk) 22:18, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

COLHEAD issues
Hey TDW. Continuing on the above discussion on how {{Episode table/part}} template is apparently an accessibility issue per MOS:COLHEAD, I'm wondering how |ShortSummary= in {{Episode list}} does not cause the same accessibility issue. Does you know anyone with COLHEAD knowledge that would understand this? -- Alex_21 TALK 06:56, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- @MPGuy2824 and PresN: were the two to first bring it up to me an FLC of mine. If anyone can tell us if it's an issue, it's likely one of them? TheDoctorWho (talk) 07:08, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- Wonderful, thanks for pinging them. To give context, both the /part template and ShortSummary parameter can be seen at Doctor Who series 14#Episodes. -- Alex_21 TALK 07:30, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- So. In a technical, specific sense, that kind of "it's a new row that doesn't correspond to any of the column headers" isn't correct. So, not 100% accessible. That said, however, when you dig into it, "accessibility", even on-wiki, is nowhere near 100%, so there are compromises when it comes to "still very usable by humans even if it doesn't meet the spec". In this case, even though the summary row doesn't correspond with any of the column headers, it isn't really any harder for screen-reader users to understand than it is for sighted-users. So it's not a big deal. So, even FLC, which is much further ahead than the rest of wiki for enforcing this stuff, doesn't try to forbid this kind of thing description field. Pseudo-column headers, despite looking similar, are much worse, because they're not just contextual to the previous row like this case but instead are a context for every row thereafter and there's no programmatic way to carry that context through. Tl;dr you're fine. --PresN 19:23, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- Courtesy ping @Alex 21: to the above response just in case they're not watching/subscribed. TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:56, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw it, thanks.
Gonna see if I can change the two types of row-spanning columns into the same non-header format. -- Alex_21 TALK 06:01, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hopefully it works out! It'd definitely be nice to keep something closer to the /part format. TheDoctorWho (talk) 06:07, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

Unlike the round points in the main WikiCup table, which are reset at the end of each round, tournament points are carried over between rounds and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far.
Round 1 was very competitive compared with previous years; two contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 500 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
Gog the Mild (submissions) with 1,168 round points, mainly from 4 featured articles and 4 good articles on old military history, in addition to an assortment of GA and FA reviews.
Generalissima (submissions) with 1,095 round points, mainly from 2 FAs, 2 featured lists, 8 GAs, and 16 Did You Know articles mainly on historical topics.
BeanieFan11 (submissions), with 866 round points from 20 GAs, 23 DYKs, and 2 In the News articles primarily about athletes.
Sammi Brie (submissions), with 846 round points from 16 GAs about radio and TV stations, 45 GA reviews, and 3 DYKs.
Hey man im josh (submissions), with 816 round points from 5 FLs about sports and Olympic topics, 46 FL reviews, 3 ITN articles, and a large number of bonus points.
MaranoFan (submissions), with 815 round points primarily from 3 FAs and 1 GA about music, in addition to 9 article reviews.
The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 18 featured articles, 26 featured lists, 1 featured-topic article, 197 good articles, 38 good-topic articles and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 23 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 550 reviews.
Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2, which begins on 1 March. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! A barnstar for you!
| The Writer's Barnstar | |
| Well done for your amazing work on Reservation Dogs episodes and getting them to GA - I enjoyed reviewing them and was very happy I was able to pass them. I have really enjoyed learning about the episodes and their context and it is so important that more stories about indigenous people are told, so please do carry on with your amazing work! DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 03:42, 7 March 2025 (UTC) |
- @DaniloDaysOfOurLives: Thank you for the barnstar, it truly means so much! I'm not indigenous myself, but as an Oklahoman (where the series is filmed), I've found the series to be crucial for the stories it's told. I hope to make more episode articles for the program soon. A Myers-Briggs fan?
Hi, TheDoctorWho ... I noticed you identified yourself as an INFJ on your User page, though you had a T out to the right of the J. As someone very much into the MBTI and other similar assessments, as well as a sharer of three of your four letters, I'd be interested to take this forward in conversation, if you're up for it. I identify as INTJ, but my J is just over the middle line and so I often say I'm INTX. I think I understand now why I felt so in tune with your writing as I copy edited it. :) Augnablik (talk) 10:05, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Augnablik: Apologies for the delayed response, I have been sidetracked with some on- and off-wiki projects. We took Myers-Briggs tests and discussed the results in-detail in a college psychology course of mine. The T at the end stands for "turbulent" and is a further subtype of INFJ that you can read more about here if you're interested! It's interesting how close our personality types are.
TheDoctorWho (talk) 18:38, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- This Turbulent and Assertive breakdown is fascinating, and I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it before because the MBTI was one of the assessment tools I studied extensively when I was doing my doctoral work on cognitive and learning styles, and related tools — then continued with that area of interest in the world of education and training for quite a while.
- This breakdown must have come later, when I more or less stopped keeping up with the area. All because of running into you, and through you, this, I'll look into it.
- Is there a T and A for each letter? Augnablik (talk) 03:18, 20 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Augnablik: I honestly wasn't sure at first, but a quick search of the website does make it appear so. Here's the further T/A breakdown for INTJ. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:58, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- I followed the link you gave me two days ago somewhat further, and even took this company's version of the assessment tool. This time I ended up over on the P side of the dividing line, though only by one point ... so again I think it's fair to claim an X as my fourth letter, all the more because in my earlier assessment, I was a J by only three points.
- And like you, I found that I also ended up as a T!
- Incidentally, although this new assessment places me in the Logician category, I feel much at home as an Explorer. I don't feel comfortable with the cold feel of being labeled a Logician! And I'm definitely no mathematician or physicist, just someone who seeks truth, accuracy, and clarity above most everything else. Augnablik (talk) 06:33, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

- For complete transparency (for you or anyone else), I have actually declined to make edits on behalf of DWF91 that they've requested off-wiki. The only thing I've taken on is their Good Topic nom, which I was already contributing to prior to the initial AN thread that kicked off all this drama, and that was of my own interest in seeing this promoted. British Figure Skating Championships

- Hello... I am also working on Canadian National Skating Championships. If you have a chance, can you take a look at the History section? I'm not asking for a full analysis or anything like that, but I have been struggling with writing this section, especially regarding the chronology of events. If you can let me know how it reads or if there might be a better way to organize it, that would be super awesome! Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:31, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: Sure! I just got around to leaving comments on the British FLC, which I've been putting off for a minute. Give me another day or two and I'll look over the Canadian list! TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:06, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: I'll have to offer my sincerest apologies, I clearly and very frequently overestimate the time I have available. I've just gotten a chance to read over the history section on the Canadian article. I think it would read a lot better if the first two paragraphs were merged to flow chronologically a bit better. It's a little disorienting when we jump from 1905 > (1897) > 1913 > 1907 > 1887 > 1914 > 1905. I think it would be easier to keep track if it started with the background of the Amateur Skating Association as a lead into Minto, and then finally Skate Canada (if I have that in order), and of course with the relevant details about women's additions/competition changes/etc. interspersed. The same could be said for the last paragraph; the first sentence could be merged into the preceding paragraph while the following could be shifted up chronologically (and just slightly reworded) TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:39, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- That whole section has been maddening. Let me know how you think it looks now. Canadian National Skating Championships#History Bgsu98 (Talk) 05:54, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: It reads so much better to me now than it did before! After giving it another read through in its current state, I only had one portion that led to some slight confusion: "
The championships were cancelled in 1907 after the Rideau Skating Rink was destroyed by a fire. While separate competitions for men and women were not held until 1913, an award was presented to the "top lady skater" at each competition prior to 1913. A separate governing organization for figure skating in Canada was established in 1914 [...]
" When I first read this, I thought it implied that there were no competitions between 1907 and 1914, and only realized that it was just for that single year, after glancing at one of the tables. What about just rewording that one portion similar to one of the methods you use further down, either: "No 1907 championships were held after [...]" or "After the Rideau Skating Rink was destroyed in a fire, no 1907 championships were held"? Just provides less chance that it's misinterpreted as a permanent cancellation and provides slight variation so it's not an exact repeat of the World War/COVID cancellations. TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:28, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: It reads so much better to me now than it did before! After giving it another read through in its current state, I only had one portion that led to some slight confusion: "
- That whole section has been maddening. Let me know how you think it looks now. Canadian National Skating Championships#History Bgsu98 (Talk) 05:54, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: Sure! I just got around to leaving comments on the British FLC, which I've been putting off for a minute. Give me another day or two and I'll look over the Canadian list! TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:06, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 May newsletter
The second round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 April at 23:59 UTC. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.
Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:
BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,233 round points from 24 good articles, 28 Did you know articles, and one In the news nomination, mainly about athletes and politicians
Thebiguglyalien (submissions) with 1,127 round points, almost entirely from two high-multiplier featured articles on Black Widow (Natasha Romanova) and Grace Coolidge, in addition to two GAs and two reviews
History6042 (submissions) with 1,088 round points from four featured lists about Michelin-starred restaurants, nine good articles and a good topic mostly on Olympic-related subjects, seven ITN articles, and dozens of reviews
Gog the Mild (submissions) with 1,085 round points from three FAs, one GA, and four DYKs on military history, as well as 18 reviews
Arconning (submissions) with 887 round points, mostly from four FLs, six GAs, and seven DYKs on Olympic topics, along with more than two dozen reviews
In addition, we would like to recognize
Generalissima (submissions) for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.
The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.
Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Good luck! - Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
- An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
- An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.

GA Reviews
I was coming to your talk page to see if you participated at the Good Article project too and then I saw the icons strung across the top of your user page like Christmas garland. Anyway, I have recently submitted this article – 2022 CS U.S. International Figure Skating Classic – to GA (among others). It's a pretty simple article, but I think it has a great hook because it's the competition where Ilia Malinin first performed his Quadruple Axel, and he is literally the only person on Earth who can perform one. If you have the time and wouldn't mind taking a look, I'd appreciate it. Also, I have another FS article up at FL, too. It's Grand Prix de France (figure skating). Thanks! Bgsu98 (Talk) 22:12, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: Apologies it's taken me so long to respond. My AuDHD gets the better of me more than I'd like to admit, and although I had plans to get to this sooner it ultimately took me ten days. I also admittedly have to say that most of those icons were articles written rather than reviewed. I feel like I suck at reviewing GA's, especially in topic areas I'm not familiar with, compared to content creation. Although I have taken on a few GAR's, that's why I typically (and more recently I'd say) try to give back in the form of reviews at FLC. I can focus on specific areas I specialize in there, even if it's not a familiar topic area.
- That said, as you know, I did finally make it around to reviewing Grand Prix de France, and I'd be more than happy to review any FAC's of yours (either drop me a message here, or I have the FAC page on my watchlist, and will likely see anything in due time). However, I'm not sure how well I'd succeed at taking on that GAN, knowing that I don't know anything about the related MOS. I did notice though that you have The Amazing Race 1 sitting at GAN. I'm a little sidetracked currently with Doctor Who series 15 and its related episode article(s) at the moment, but the finale is next Saturday, so if TAR1 hasn't been reviewed by then (likely the second week of June, time to wrap up DW15, plus my upcoming art gallery show) I may take that on. Request for FAC help
Hello again. I hope you are doing well and having a good day so far. Apologies for the random message. I was wondering if you could help with my current FAC for an article about a character from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics? I completely understand if you do not have the time or interest. - Just left a few comments, honestly had trouble finding things to mention with how perfect it already stands!
TheDoctorWho (talk) 07:05, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
Sorry for the double-reply here. Thank you for the edits to the Private Practice season 1 article. I would imagine that will likely go through the WP:FLRC process one day. I can't remember if I asked you this already so apologies if this is a repeat, but I had formatted citations for this article in my sandbox. Since I do not plan on working on this article further, do you think that it would be helpful to post this more complete set of sources to the article talk page? Aoba47 (talk) 20:25, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- No worries! I'd agree that an FLRC is imminent there, particularly with the discussion at WT:FLC. I think placing those on the talk page where other editors might notice them would be very useful! My immediate plan is to take List of Private Practice episodes to FLC, that list transcludes references from the season 1 article, which is why I cleaned up those references. List of Grey's Anatomy episodes and List of Station 19 episodes are already FL's, so this would be the last LoE in the Grey's franchise. TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:14, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the link to the WT:FLC discussion. I will place the sources on the talk page sometime later today. Hopefully, it would help any editors who are interested in further working on the page. It would also make it hopefully easier for them as the citations are already formatted and archived.
- Best of luck with the Private Practice episode list. It would be nice to have all of the Grey's LoE at FL status, especially since I doubt that there will be any further spin-offs or shows set in that universe. There were some reports on a potential Private Practice revival, but I doubt that would actually happen. Maybe it is because I have not kept up with Grey's in over a decade now (which is wild!), it feels like that franchise is more so winding down, which is rather bittersweet.
- Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help with the Private Practice episode list. Aoba47 (talk) 00:35, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for dropping those references on there! I may eventually get around to trying to get season 1 at least up to GA (I'm a little sidetracked with other projects at the moment, though).
- There were actually a few rumors circling a few years ago about a third spin-off, but nothing substantial has come of it since. Station 19 is a great watch too, if you're looking for something shorter (105 episodes compared to Grey's' ~450), but there are several crossover plots at times that might occasionally make it difficult to keep up with if you haven't seen Grey's recently. My Name Is Earl
Hi, I noticed you cleaned up the references and endnote on My Name Is Earl, that had the same name, but supposedly different content. My intention here was to define the endnote content on each season page so that it would transclude into the list of episodes page in as one note (the same way multiple references can be transcluded across pages with the same content). After you cleaned it up, I tried it again using just seasons 3 and 4, but I'm already getting an error on the episode page. Are you able to tell me why when the content on both pages in regards to that is identical? TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:27, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
- The best way that I can figure to fix the "duplicate" references is to change each seasons page reference to a short reference, e.g. in each seasons page, change the full reference from:

GA Question
How do I add a co-nominator to a GA? Bgsu98 (Talk) 20:02, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: The generally accepted way is to add it into the nomination template as a note, like this:
{{subst:GAN|subtopic=television|note=Co-nominated with [[User:Bgsu98]]}}. - That note will transclude to WP:GAN, similar to how my nominations of "The Story & the Engine" and "The Interstellar Song Contest" currently look.
- It's important to note that by doing this, no official counts or formal records are kept, besides what would be in the history of the respective talk page. By that I mean that the co-nominator won't receive credit for the GA on Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by good article nominations or Toolforge, nor will they receive talk page notifications when the nomination is reviewed, placed on hold, passed, or failed. TheDoctorWho (talk) 20:35, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you; I wanted to add a co-editor from the Amazing Race project on my GA nomination of The Amazing Race 1. Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:30, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: Since that article has already been nominated, I believe you should be able to just append
note=Co-nominated with [[User:Example]]to the end of the template, to prevent your nomination from resetting in the queue. TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:34, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

Hey there... I haven't seen you at the FL project in a while and just wanted to check in to see how you're doing! 😃 Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:32, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: Hi, thanks for checking in, I appreciate it a lot! I had gotten a little sidetracked with the Doctor Who series 15 episode articles for a little while, which consumed most of my on-wiki time. Since that's nearly wrapped up though, I'm looking forward to jumping back into reviewing and nominating FL's. I actually just pushed through an FLC nom for List of Private Practice episodes (and an FAC nom for Deer Lady), if you're interested in taking a look at either of those. I see that you have two FLC noms up right now I'll try to take a look at them and leave a review on them soon. Hope you're doing well too?
TheDoctorWho (talk) 05:42, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- I did the source review for your Private Practice article... There are some problems with the season 1 and 2 ratings. As for me, this wasn't the highlight of my Wikitenure. 🥴 Bgsu98 (Talk) 13:52, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- I did the source review for your FAC nomination. I also have one article at FAC – 2021 World Figure Skating Championships – and another at FL – North American Figure Skating Championships. Is the PP article the only one you have at FL right now? Bgsu98 (Talk) 22:07, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: Thanks for doing the source review on both of those for me! Yup, those are my only two right now. I have another FLC in mind I'll try to get up in a few weeks (but knowing me, we'll see). I'll definitely check out your other two nom's. And big oof, reading over that AFD discussion on the Bulgaria Juniors gave me a headache (would've been an easy keep for me too). TheDoctorWho (talk) 16:55, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- It seems to me source reviews are what most people enjoy doing the least, but they're usually not too bad, so I don't mind doing them if it helps out. Bgsu98 (Talk) 16:57, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- I honestly enjoy doing source reviews for topic-adjacent areas to what I usually edit in. Sometimes they just a bit more of a time-commitment to check quality, formatting, supported statements, etc., so I don't always get to do them quite as often as I like. Elimination tables are needed in The Great Food Truck Race's page
I don't understand why elimination tables are not needed just because episode summaries exist. It's like saying we don't need to have graphs because the information on the graphs are already written in paragraphs. The pages for other shows, like MasterChef, Top Chef, Survivor and the Amazing Race, have both episode summaries and elimination tables. Elimination tables are much easier to look at to quickly see the results and the progression of each team episode-by-episode. Also, they are far easier to update than episode summaries.
Also, a lot of the episode summaries are too long because they contain a lot of unnecessary information. They are harder to read because of that. They also don't cover much ground about how each team performed other than the 1st place finisher and the eliminated team. Lastly, 14 seasons of The Great Food Truck Race don't have any information about what happened in those seasons TheVoicelessWriter (talk) 04:35, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- @TheVoicelssWriter: Per WP:BRD please don't revert further while discussion is ongoing. You made a bold edit that was reverted, the status quo should remain in place while discussion is ongoing. Please see WP:OTHERCONTENT and WP:OTHERSTUFF, just because "graphs and information" exists in one article, doesn't mean that it should automatically be included in other articles. All of the examples that you named have individual season articles, which is the proper place for this type of content.
- The Great Food Truck Race does not have season articles (bar season 11, which does have a table). A "list of episodes" page isn't the appropriate place for these types of tables (see List of Top Chef episodes, List of MasterChef Canada episodes, List of Survivor episodes, and List of Amazing Race episodes for the proper equivalent), and should be limited to the article title. If you do want to include them, write season articles instead. TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:00, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- @TheVoicelessWriter: Correct ping TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:02, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
Second opinion requested
I am looking for a quick second opinion. I have just finished auditing Norwegian Figure Skating Championships. I had included a History section, but chose to eliminate it and instead slightly expand the lead, since the History section basically just repeated what was already in the lead. You can see a previous version of the article here. This article isn't like some of the other articles I've done (like the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain), where there is extensive information to include. It seems to me that the inclusion here is unnecessary and redundant. What do you think? Bgsu98 (Talk) 20:38, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
- Apologies for taking so long to get to your FLC's. I ended up coming down with a cold last week and wasn't active as much as I'd originally hoped.
- If that's all of the history information available, I'd agree that it's probably best without one. Most lists can be dealt with on a case-by-case for things like that. When I originally expanded List of ghost towns in Oklahoma, I had all of the stuff in the history section in the lead (as can be seen here), because no history section existed prior to that, nor did any of the lists for the other 50 states. Then I realized that the lead was unproportionately large and that an exception was warranted there. The same could be said for the Norwegian article, just from the opposite perspective. I definitely wouldn't oppose at FLC for lack of having one here. TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:30, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Pinging @Bgsu98: to the above response. TheDoctorWho (talk) 21:33, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- I hope you're feeling better! The first article I brought to FLC in this series – Ukrainian Figure Skating Championships – had nothing between the lead and the tables. That discussion revealed that the lead was too short, so that's where a lot of the items which are not standard in my articles came from: who holds the most gold medals, etc. The next articles were all big: the U.S., Europe, World, Canada, Great Britain, Grand Prix de France... all with extensive histories. So when it came time for Estonia, I was so used to having a history, I struggled to pad it out, and frankly, I don't like how it turned out. I think, like with Norway, the lead can be expanded and the history section eliminated. Several of these just don't have a lot of extra stuff worth mentioning. Switzerland is another one that's done and ready to go; there just isn't a lot of extra stuff there. On the other hand, East Germany, Russia, and the Czech Republic, which are also ready to go, have histories worth expanding upon. I just wanted a second opinion. I think the Norway article, and also the Switzerland article, are better off without a history section that would ultimately just be repetitive and padding. Bgsu98 (Talk) 23:24, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Bgsu98: Sorry again for the delayed response, but I'd definitely agree with the way it seems you're leaning. If it came down to having to choose between a very well-fleshed out lead or a weak lead and weak history section because the two are split, I'd always pick the one that allows for stronger prose. TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:39, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- User:TheDoctorWho: I have the following articles up for FA/FL review if you have a free minute or two. Also let me know if you have anything in need of a review!

Administrators' newsletter – August 2025
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
- Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.
- Administrators can now restrict the "Add a Link" feature to newcomers. The "Add a Link" Structured Task helps new account holders get started with editing. Administrators can configure this setting in the Community Configuration page.
- The arbitration case Indian military history has been closed.
- South Asia (WP:CT/SA) is designated a contentious topic. The topic area is specifically defined as

- The contentious topic designations for Sri Lanka (SL) and India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan (IPA) are folded into this new contentious topic.
- The community-authorized general sanctions regarding South Asian social groups (GS/CASTE) are rescinded and folded into this new contentious topic.
- South Asia (WP:CT/SA) is designated a contentious topic. The topic area is specifically defined as

Temporary account IP viewer granted

Hello, TheDoctorWho. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary account IP viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
- You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
- Access should not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
- When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
- Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
- Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with an IP address or CIDR range.
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! asilvering (talk) 04:52, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

WikiCup 2025 September newsletter
The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:
BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,175 round points, mainly from sports-related articles, including 17 good articles, 27 did you know articles, and 9 in the news articles
Arconning (submissions) with 1,090 round points, mainly from articles about athletes and politicians, including a featured article on Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 9 good articles, 28 did you know articles, and a wide assortment of featured and good article reviews
AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) with 854 round points, mostly from a high-scoring featured article on the Indian leader Rani of Jhansi and two good articles, in addition to 13 featured and good article reviews
Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.
In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).
Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. Wok Is Dead reversion to redirect
The episode was released today and, like every other South Park episode, the Wikipedia article for it has been created and is in the process of being updated by myself and other editors to have additional information. Reverting it back to a redirect when multiple editors were working on improving the article makes this more difficult. I will update the article with additional information/better sources but it was in the process of being worked on by multiple editors when it was reverted. Onyxqk (talk) 02:52, 4 September 2025 (UTC)

Guide to temporary accounts
Hello, TheDoctorWho. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
- When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:
~2025-12345-67(a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5). - All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
- A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
- As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
- There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
- There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
- Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
- Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.
Impact for administrators
- It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
- It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
- Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
- Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
- Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.
~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR
, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67) - See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.
Useful tools for patrollers
- It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options →
Enable the user info card
- This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
- Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
- Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
- The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

FLC-related question
Hello again. I wanted to congratulate you on all of your work for List of songs by Conan Gray. I will try my best to do a review for your WP:FLC in the near future. It is really cool to read about when someone discovers their favorite artist and enjoys their music to the point of working on Wikipedia articles about them. I think that is really inspiring and heartwarming.
Anyway, I actually had a question about the YouTube citations. I noticed that you use the AV media notes template and that because of this, the titles (in this case, the titles for the YouTube videos) are presented in italics in the citations. I was wondering if that was an intentional choice on your part?
I do not think that there is a real or wrong way to cite YouTube videos. I have used the web source template, but I can see value in the AV media notes one. I was just a bit uncertain about having the YouTube videos with italic titles, and I wanted to get your perspective about it? Let me know if this makes sense lol. Aoba47 (talk) 02:56, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Aoba47: Thank you! Always appreciate hearing from you and seeing your comments on my work. As someone with AuDHD I always fall hard into my special interests, and that frequently evolves into expanding WP's coverage around that topic.

- I took a quick look at the page, it appears for the YouTube videos I actually used {{cite AV media}} (and then used {{cite AV media notes}} for the liner notes from the CD/vinyl releases of the albums). I'm not too attached to that particular template, I just assumed it was acceptable as {{cite YouTube}} and {{cite video}} have both redirected there since 2019/2013. This was also a similar format to a series of citations we used across the 8 episodes of a recent Doctor Who season for behind the scenes featurettes that were uploaded to YouTube (see citation #2 here, for example), and have since all reached GA status.
- However, I can also see the concern given that individual songs would generally be represented by double quotes rather than italics per our MOS. It does appear that this can be overridden with standard formatting, so if I enter
title=''"Antics" - Original Song''the resulting display in the references section would be"Antics" - Original Song
rather than the current/defaultAntics - Original Song
. If you think those cites would be better presented that way, let me know. I don't think it would take too long to go through and modify them. TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:46, 1 November 2025 (UTC)- Of course! I can relate to that. I have 100% fallen down rabbit holes and have gotten really into my interests on WP. I think that is a big part of the fun of this site, and it is always cool to learn more about editors based on what they work on.
- Thank you for the clarification about this. Apologies for confusing the AV media notes template with the one for AV media. Just to be clear, I could be entirely wrong. I am not saying that I am right about this, as I could see the value in using the AV media template, particularly given the history with the YouTube and video templates being redirected there.
- I think that it would be better to override the standard formatting to more accurately reflect how the title is represented in the YouTube video (as well as to go along with WP:CONFORMTITLE). That being said, it might be a good idea to wait and see if reviewers (or editors in general) brings this up. I could just be way overthinking this. I was just curious about it (both for your FLC and for my own editing in the future), so I wanted to get your opinion on it.
- I hope that you are having a good weekend so far! Aoba47 (talk) 18:52, 1 November 2025 (UTC)

Congratulations to these great achievements! - Today I remember a singer who impressed me on stage. - You are invited to the peer review after FAC, - in a poll, you could simply mark yes or no for the four open questions. It's an experiment. The piece has its 300th anniversary on Christmas Day, and should be as good as possible by then. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:01, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
I have three biographies on the main page today, miss a fourth one, nominated a fifth, that means little time for other matters. My places now include La Scala, - see music, Verdi three times, and twice in my story! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:12, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:41, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
