Nice to meet you. How did you post the cookie template to my page? I noticed that when you did this, whatever method you used did not leave a signature, so I had to check who left the cookie. If you leave it with the Wikilove button, which I expect is a heart at the top of your interface, then that should allow you to easily leave a cookie which includes your signature. Got it - thanks! Most of the Al Hayrah Google entries are because of Wikipedia - for instance 'Al Hayrah hotels' is autobot stuff. There are no hotels in Heera!!!

The first thing to do with a user causing problems is to warn them. There are a whole series of warning templates like {{uw-vandalism2}} and {{uw-delete3}}. The full list is at WP:WARN, but the most commonly-used ones are explained at WP:Vandalism#Warnings. That whole page is worth reading. The warnings mostly come in four levels: 1 = assume good faith (if it might be an innocent mistake), 2 = no AGF, 3 = if you do that again you may be blocked, 4 = if you do that again you WILL be blocked with no further warning. Very often L2 or L3 is enough.

WP:AIV is the place to report vandalism, but as you will see from the notice marked "Important" at the top, the user needs to have been warned first. Admins at AIV will normally only make a block if vandalism has persisted after a L4 warning.

Of course, that kid writing about himself was not vandalism, and after two or three repeats {{uw-create2}} would be appropriate, and go on from there. If the user persists after warnings, then what started as an innocent misunderstanding of what WP is for becomes disruptive and suitable for a report to AIV.

There is a template {{uw-autobiography}} for people who write articles about themselves, but it is rather formal and this one gave his birth date which showed, if I remember right, that he was 13, so a simpler explanation is better. WP:Wikipedia is not about YOU is quite good, and WP:Guidance for younger editors is also good to point children to. You can see what I wrote at User talk:Sergeandrei#Wikipedia is not for writing about yourself, and he seems to have got the message. The warning at the end was intended to be equivalent to Level 3. Hi Upjav!

As I said wrote above, it was a technical CSD decline. WP:G4 only applies to articles that have been deleted by a formal deletion discussion, most often WP:AfD. While the article may have been speedily deleted before, it wasn't a candidate for that particular speedy deletion category.

If you think the article should be deleted, I think the better discussion would be at AfD.

I hope this explains things a bit more clearly. Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever.

On 17 December 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tamakautoga, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in the late 19th century, Australian author Louis Becke's infant daughter went on a trip to Tamakautoga without him?   Upjav, I happened to come across this and while I understand why the content was deleted, I am not sure that it doesn't belong on that page. First, USS Tolovana (AO-64) only has one source and it's a primary source. A diary would be considered a primary source and the edits don't need to be easily verifiable. For instance, if Old Put makes the diary available to anyone who asks, then it is verifiable. As I see it, the problem is that the person who wrote the diary is the one adding it to the page. I wonder if Old Put would scan those pages and add them to Commons if then the information could be added back in by another editor.

  Those diaries probably belong in an archive somewhere. And if they were in an archive, we could cite them as a primary source here. PopularOutcast^talk2me! 04:51, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

  • @PopularOutcast, I understand where you're coming from and agree that primary sources are important and Old Put's journal entries are worth preserving as a part of history. Your point is also taken about having another person use the content from the primary source upload. On that point, though, I would think someone else should be the one uploading the journal in line with a piece of the policy of notable people not writing their own biographies --- theoretically, if someone is notable enough, someone else should have written/be inclined to write their biography without the subject being the one to do so. Should the same go for a written source, where if it is notable enough, someone else should be inclined to upload it? A counterpoint there would be how pictures and other visual media are uploaded, where I can take a picture and also be the one to upload it. Obviously there is more nuance to that, and I have to think more about it, but generally I see your point --- it's just that on the whole, I think it would be much easier for hoaxes to appear on Wikipedia if anyone could freely write up their own sources (potentially with a sock so that they're using "someone else's content" as you suggested should be prohibited) and use them to back claims. At least with unreferenced claims you can pull them, and with fake book references you can search for those titles to verify, creating a credible-looking website is labor-intensive, etc. Beyond that, if we saw a bunch of people abusing this, we could see Wikimedia get clogged with fake primary sources that would take eons to sift out from real sources. Comrades passes Wikipedia:Notability (sports)#Athletics/track and field and long-distance running and is the largest (15-20k) and oldest (1921) ultramarathon in the world and one of the largest races in the world. New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points. The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026. The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability.
