DCWC closing update
The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points,
Thebiguglyalien (submissions) comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions;
BeanieFan11 (submissions) flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months,
Generalissima (submissions) finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home the Gold Belt Buckle. Congratulations to our winners!
In addition to his spot in the top three,
BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)!
Magentic Manifestations (submissions), after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews, Simongraham (submissions) wins for most article reviews.
The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...
We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Ixtal (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). I hope you're doing well! I have a question regarding my article on BankSathi that I’m working on for Wikipedia. I'm considering engaging with relevant WikiProjects like WikiProject Companies and WikiProject Finance to improve the article and ensure it meets Wikipedia’s notability guidelines.
Could you provide any insights on how best to approach these projects? Are there specific practices I should follow to effectively collaborate with other contributors?
Thank you for your guidance!

To fix this, please update your JavaScript pages (Special:MyPage/common.js or Special:MyPage/skin.js) by replacing all instances of Anne drew Andrew and Drew with Anne drew.

Question from Jacky2024 (09:05, 25 October 2024)
my submission for the draft article on BankSathi. I appreciate your feedback and would like to understand the specific reasons for the decline better.
If you could provide insights into the areas where the draft needs improvement, I would be grateful. I'm particularly interested in understanding how I can enhance the notability of the subject and ensure the article adheres to Wikipedia's content policies. --Jacky2024 (talk) 09:05, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, @Jacky2024:. The AfC template should already clarify why the draft has been declined. In this case, the article does not show that the company meets the general notability guideline criteria. This means that the company needs to be significantly covered (no trivial or brief mentions) in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. WP:CORP goes more into detail about the notability guidelines of organisations and companies. Hope this helps. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 11:58, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

Hello Mentor
Hello mentor, thank you for mentoring me.
I'm not sure what wikipedia mentorship entails, but I would be happy to learn from you in anyway I can. Related to this, my first (and so far only) article was nominated for deletion for being not-notable. I have responded to the thread (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Geoff_Tabin). I hope my response is useful and civil. I would love a second opinion on the notability of the article, and ideally help defending my article, which I genuinely do believe is notable.
Thanks! CallipygianConnoisseur (talk) 08:12, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

Inquiry on a new article
Hello! Happy New Year!
I have written an article about a person who I would deem to be of significance in modern Filipino history, particularly his role in the constitutional convention of 1971-72. His diary of that time was published in 1993 and frequently cited as a historical document.
I did a lot of research and compiled information both from online sources and from interviews with one of his sons, who has archived his books, photographs and copies of several articles that were written about him Dr. Espiritu and that he himself kept.
One of the online sources that has a short bio is https://philippinediaryproject.com/about-the-philippine-diary-project/about-the-diaries/about-augusto-caesar-espiritu/ <https://philippinediaryproject.com/about-the-philippine-diary-project/about-the-diaries/about-augusto-caesar-espiritu/> but I’m again unsure how reliable this is for referencing since it is not a newspaper.
Much of the information comes from the information provided by his son, including a CV that Dr. Espiritu himself wrote as well as the short biographies that are printed in the books that he wrote and edited. I was told that these are “primary sources” and therefore not valid. The only valid sources would be newspaper articles and/or biographies. Is this accurate?
The article was twice rejected on the grounds that the references were insufficient.
I went to the live chat forum of wikipedia help at https://web.libera.chat/?nick=WhiteFig38#wikipedia-en-help <https://web.libera.chat/?nick=WhiteFig38#wikipedia-en-help> to find out more concretely what needs to be changed. Unfortunately, the editor I was talking to said that the article couldn't be published because of lack of reliable references.
May I kindly ask you to look into this as I have a number of questions needing your expertise.
Many thanks,

- Hi @Casey24601:. I recommend using the Articles for creation process for submitting your draft article as you'll get feedback from reviewers in case your article needs more work. - Hi @Zigly:. With the source editor, you can create references by typing
<ref>...</ref>and inserting a {{cite web}}, {{cite news}}, {{cite book}}, {{cite magazine}}, or {{cite journal}} template inside of it. If you're using the Vector skin, you should be able to see "Cite" when opening the source editor. After clicking on it, you'll have four interactive templates to choose to add. The same goes in the visual editor, you have a "Cite" button that you can click on and then you can add a reference. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 09:03, 5 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from SassafrassAlabass (19:25, 2 April 2025)
Hi mentor, I made a large paragraph talking about a large fire in a neighborhood that happened years ago on its wiki page. It got reverted as someone said it was "not encyclopedic, and more current event news." I've seen incidents like this briefed before on location wiki pages, so is there any specific reason why mine was deleted, and any advice for what and what not to put in the future on location pages? --SassafrassAlabass (talk) 19:25, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from CNC3 Pilot (00:05, 3 April 2025)
Hello! My primary mentor is away and it appears to you have been assigned in their place. Was hoping you could review a recent edit I made to the Exeter, Ontario article. A portion of my edit was reverted, despite the same information (about the closest major airport) being in the article before my edit. Unfortunately, the user who made the change has a protected talk page so I'm unable to ask them. The only comments they made is that this isn't a travel guide. My thoughts are that it's approriate to include information about the closest airport with scheduled passenger service under the transport section of the town's article. Hoping for your advice. Thank you! --CNC3 Pilot (talk) 00:05, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @CNC3 Pilot:. I'm unsure whether that information is encyclopedic. I think that it would be applicable to mention that Exeter/South Huron has an aiport in its article if it actually had one. Considering that it does not have one, I don't see the need to mention that the closest one is in London. Cheers. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 09:55, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Teri Sullivan Sharpe Group (15:55, 11 April 2025)
Apparently I jumped in to fix some broken links on an existing page that linked to my employer's website without fully understanding the rules of engagement! I apologize for anything I did incorrectly and wish to fix it. Unfortunately I'm finding it difficult to understand exactly what I'm supposed to do and have been looking through pages and pages of instructions that people are sending me, and it's just making my head explode.
Right now I'm trying to make sure I disclose my employer and the page I'm looking at says to disclose it on my user page, on my talk page or in the edit summary. Then it takes me to a template and I have no idea how to use this template.
I'll keep reading and studying but any help you can offer would be most welcome! --Teri Sullivan Sharpe Group (talk) 15:55, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or ⌘ Cmd+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref>{{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or ⌘ Cmd+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the "External links" section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}

Question from Theman9129 (20:04, 25 May 2025)
I joined up because a paragraph in the history of Channel 13 conflicts with my memory, but I don't want to make a change without being able to research and confirm that memory. Here's the part that I question. As currently written, the history shows a program called "Daywatch" as being part of the programming on Channel 13 under its original call letters and ownership as WAATV. But I remember watching Daywatch in the first house my parents owned, but we didn't move in there until 1958, which was after the station was sold and became WNTA. What do we do? Do we rely on the memory of one person to make an edit? I am trying to research this discrepancy. Do you have any advice? Thank you. --Theman9129 (talk) 20:04, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Lego Indiana Jones - TFA
Hi Vacant0, You have the Lego Indiana Jones article still at TFAR. I have a slot I can run it in July, if you'd like, or it can wait until 2028 and the 20th anniversary (running the risk that something else may have a better shout for that date when it comes up). It's your call, but which would you prefer - now or in three years? Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 15:12, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hey there! Yeah I'd rather have it in 2028. If in case something more important comes up on that day that year, I won't have any problems moving it to a different date (the game was technically released on three different days in different regions so any of those dates would count). Cheers. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 15:22, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from TheLiteraryLoon (20:22, 1 June 2025)
Hello! New editor here!
Hope you are doing well.
I had a question that will probably display my ignorance, so forgive me - I'm still learning.
I'm curious about how one might add "Uses in other media" to a poet's page, or if that's appropriate.
Specifically right now I'm looking at Robert Penn Warren, his poem "Tell me a Story" is quoted at length in the first episode of True Detective Season 3, and is a famous poem in general.
Many articles on individual poems are stubs, so I was curious - what guidelines exist when trying to make sure my updates are non-trivial? Do you think a poem's quotation in a pivotal scene from a famous TV show enough to include on a poet's page? Especially if that poem is used in other media as well?
Appreciate any tips!
