Jackson883941 That's not me. A CheckUser can confirm. - ZLEA T\C 01:45, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Very odd. BilCat (talk) 04:59, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
As Heironymous Rowe seems to have implied, I wouldn't be surprised if the IP was Jackson883941. There are a few minor differences in comment style, such as the fact that the IP usually capitolized the first letter in a sentence while Jackson883941 did not. However, it's probably not a coincidence that the IP harassed Jackson883941 in addition to three admins. The IP's choice of admins to harass puzzles me as well. Heironymous Rowe was involved in this discussion started by Jackson883941, and 331dot participated in several other discussions on the same page and also had blocked the IP in December. As for Sdrqaz, I do not see any connection. - ZLEA T\C 05:15, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
I'm surprised Jackson hasn't been indeffed before. They've been extremely uncivil in the past, not just recently in our interactions with him. As to the IP, hopefully someone will run a checkuser on them. BilCat (talk) 05:22, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
As the comments on Sdrqaz's page, I guess we'll see what happens in 18 days. Someone's block will probably end, and be reinstated shortly thereafter! BilCat (talk) 05:30, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
I just discovered this IP which made very similar edits to User talk:69.127.80.35 as 90.254.56.9. I've added all three IPs to my watchlist, as something tells me it isn't over. - ZLEA T\C 06:01, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Veddy intwesting! See also this edit and following. BilCat (talk) 07:59, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
And this too. That was a particularly nasty user. Seems Jackson been socking for a while now. BilCat (talk) 21:03, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
And this one too. And I've had bad interactions with both of them. Makes me wonder if there's another connection somewhere to another sock farm. BilCat (talk) 21:16, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

T-54

Thanks for finding and adding that. I wonder what they'll name it. Goshawk? Maybe Stratoliner? BilCat (talk) 06:13, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

The T-44 was named "Pegasus", so perhaps something mythological and/or Greek. - ZLEA T\C 16:47, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
Yes, the T-44 is named "Pegasus", as mentioned in the Navy press release, but that didn't stop the Air Force from "stealing" the name for the Boeing KC-46 Pegasus. The convention up until then was to only have one name at a time for aircraft in service. My suggestion was a snide/sarcastic way of saying that the T-54 should "steal" a name from an in-service Boeing product. ("Stratoliner" would be an absolutely ridiculous name for multi-engine trainer!) Anyway, since aircraft names are approved by the Air Force Department, I doubt something like that would happen. The Navy might ought to request "Pegasus II", since both the T-44 and T-54 are King Airs, but I still doubt the AF would approve it either. So we'll see. They might go for a bird name, as with the TH-73 Thrasher. We'll find out eventually. BilCat (talk) 19:58, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Template:Zeppelin aircraft

Just give me half a good reason why two Messerschmitt aircraft, of of which thankfully never saw the light of day, be included in this template? Loads of aircraft have been built either in part or whole by companies which were not the design originator: these are NOT included in the company template. For instance the Short Brothers template does not include the Bristol Bombay, even though the company built all examples of the type. I could go on.....and on and on. I've reverted you revert and will continue to do so if needs be.TheLongTone (talk) 15:09, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

TheLongTone Why are you so confrontational? They are included because the RLM assigned them distinct "Zeppelin-Messerschmitt" designations. I'm not going to get into an edit war over a few links, but I will be bringing the matter up on the talk page. - ZLEA T\C 17:04, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Editing news 2023 #1

Read this in another languageSubscription list for this newsletter

This newsletter includes two key updates about the Editing team's work:

  1. The Editing team will finish adding new features to the Talk pages project and deploy it.
  2. They are beginning a new project, Edit check.

Talk pages project

Screenshot showing the talk page design changes that are currently available as beta features at all Wikimedia wikis. These features include information about the number of people and comments within each discussion.
Some of the upcoming changes

The Editing team is nearly finished with this first phase of the Talk pages project. Nearly all new features are available now in the Beta Feature for Discussion tools.

It will show information about how active a discussion is, such as the date of the most recent comment. There will soon be a new "Add topic" button. You will be able to turn them off at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion. Please tell them what you think.

Daily edit completion rate by test group: DiscussionTools (test group) and MobileFrontend overlay (control group)

An A/B test for Discussion tools on the mobile site has finished. Editors were more successful with Discussion tools. The Editing team is enabling these features for all editors on the mobile site.

New Project: Edit Check

The Editing team is beginning a project to help new editors of Wikipedia. It will help people identify some problems before they click "Publish changes". The first tool will encourage people to add references when they add new content. Please watch that page for more information. You can join a conference call on 3 March 2023 to learn more.

Proposed deletion of Consolidated OA-6

Notice

The article Consolidated OA-6 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

An airplane design that was never built, barely a one line mention in ref, does not appear to pass WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:00, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

Sorry to see that dumbness on your user page. I hope you don't take it personally. I usually interpret that sort of thing as feedback indicting you are doing a good job here! If you never attract any attention you are probably not being bold enough in your edits, especially vandal fighting. - Ahunt (talk) 00:27, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

Thanks. I found the whole thing to be very unusual, as my only previous interaction with that editor was when I reverted an unsourced change at Lockheed C-130 Hercules. I've had minor vandalism on my userpage before, but I guess I'm doing something right if vandalism on this scale is happening. - ZLEA T\C 00:36, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
There is even a userbox badge of honour you can add to your user page {{User:Tasc0/Userboxes/Vandalized|add number of times here as a digit}}. - Ahunt (talk) 00:44, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

United States Dollar

Information on different topics isn't always updated, and with {{}}, it can make updating more difficult. IF I did something I wasn't supposed to do, I'm sorry. Some people get angry when the information on topics isn't 100% perfect.

Sadly, the United States Dollar no longer has a value like it used to. 2600:8805:9017:EE00:20F2:F899:C388:AEA4 (talk) 06:03, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

What does "the United States Dollar no longer has a value like it used to" have to do with the changes you made? You had only changed the links in the "See also" section, so I don't get what you're trying to say. - ZLEA T\C 07:00, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

List of United States fighter aircraft

I understand if you are busy and unable to quickly respond to my message.

I am simply asking you, the expert, should foreign aircraft used by the United States be included in the list of United States fighter aircraft? BeeboMan (talk) 02:56, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

BeeboMan It depends on the exact scope of the list. If the scope is fighter aircraft produced by the United States, then imported aircraft should not be included (with the possible exception of aircraft of foreign design that were produced in the US under license). If the scope is fighter aircraft used by the US military, then imported aircraft should be included alongside US-built aircraft. It appears to me that List of United States fighter aircraft does not yet have the exact scope defined. Personally, I would include a combination of US-built and US-used fighter aircraft, but be sure to note the aircraft that were export-only.
On a side note, I would break down the list into separate tables for each branch. To determine how the predecessors of the modern branches should be handled, I would follow the example set by List of undesignated military aircraft of the United States. - ZLEA T\C 04:29, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your time. Would it get okay if "Foreign-built aircraft" be split into a separate table? Also, what needs to be done if, for example, the F7F appears both on the Naval list and Air Force list? BeeboMan (talk) 12:55, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Also, I'll follow up on your suggestions, again thank you for your time. BeeboMan (talk) 13:00, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
And what will be of aircraft that were never built, never entered service, and has no clear answer to who operated this one/intened to operate, such as the Curtiss HA? BeeboMan (talk) 13:31, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
BeeboMan I'm happy to help. I don't know that we need to have separate tables for US and foreign fighter designs. Sorting by national origin should be easy with a sortable table. For aircraft used by multiple branches, it would be best to list them in each applicable table, but with the service years adjusted for when they served with each branch. Unbuilt aircraft probably should not be included unless they were clearly intended for service with the US military, such as if they were given a fighter designation by a branch or if reliable sources state that they were intended for US service. - ZLEA T\C 13:51, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
For export-only fighters, there should probably be a separate section and table below those of the branches. - ZLEA T\C 13:52, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my admittedly petty questions. Have a good day! BeeboMan (talk) 14:30, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
