The result was delete , though the article could be recreated if further sources discussing this in-depth as a single conflict are found. This was a good discussion and the consensus is not strong, but the balance of arguments with reference to policy suggest that deletion is warranted as a case of WP:SYNTH and WP:COATRACK. —Ganesha811 (talk) 15:01, 4 June 2026 (UTC)

I believe this article has serious WP:OFFTOPIC concerns to the point of warranting deletion. The lead starts off by defining the Horn of Africa as consisting of four nations: Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Somalia, but then proceeds to discuss the conflicts in CAR, Chad, Kenya, Libya, South Sudan, Sudan, Yemen, etc.. As the lead's dual name, the article at times seems to tie all these conflicts together as being part of a Saudi-UAE proxy conflict, but repeatedly drifts off into discussing the Arab-Israeli, Iran-Israeli, and Turkish proxying, not making this a valid scope either. There's simply too much going on in this article to try and present it as one, interconnected thing: especially not under the current title. Johnson524 15:27, 12 May 2026 (UTC)

- Keep: OFFTOPIC can be dealt with by renaming to something more representative or by removing irrelevant text (maybe to another article) per WP:Sofixit. Which of these to go with and how should be decided by consensus in the talk page. Taghdtaighde (talk) 18:20, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
- It's well written, but I'm not really seeing sources that would help us decide on a scope/title. Saudi–UAE feud and the Horn of Africa would best fit the current content imo. The Saudi-UAE geopolitical rivalry includes Sudan, Yemen etc. Alley 2026 calls it the Saudi–UAE rift (starting from Dec 2025) Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 20:07, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
- Keep. The issue with this article is right now, there are a bunch of smaller conflicts that are very much interconnected, and largely backed by a Saudi alliance and the Emirati alliance. However, neither Saudi nor the UAE are fighting. By renaming the page to the Saudi-UAE feud the agency of actors like Ethiopia, Sudan, etc. are diminished when those are the ones actually fighting. It's like a pre-WWI scenario where all the lines of alliances have been drawn and mapped, there's small attacks here and there and a bunch of mutually-backed civil wars, but no full inter-state fighting. - Keep this article requires some work to improve clarity. That said, it's notable and sources are available, so deleting it isn't the right call. I suggest a talk page discussion regarding improvements such as renaming or whatever. ScottyNolan (talk) 07:55, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. I roughly agree with nom. These are different conflicts framed together as a conflict. While this is a valid frame, it is one of many so this article raises concerns of POV. My points: impacts of Gulf States, Turkey, Israel, and Iran on various conflicts belong under these conflicts, for bundling conflicts we need wider agreement, and in depth discussion of geopolitics (here roughly East Africa - considered as a rename target) would be a blessing yet should start more broadly and organically. OFFTOPIC and even OR and SYNTH are also concerns. The article does not fit in anywhere I could think of and is sadly best deleted. gidonb (talk) 19:00, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. While I agree that sources are reliable, and that the components of the article are notable, I have tried and failed to find anything that presents them in this way (a "Horn of Africa conflict" that is also known as the "Saudi-United Arab Emirates proxy war"). It does look a whole lot like WP:SYNTH. Yes, you might be able to do something with the sources this article is using to write some sort of an article, or to extend coverage of the Saudi Arabia-UAE in other articles, but I don't see how that is a good keep rationale unless someone actually puts forward a clear plan for how this is going to be done (and preferably actually going ahead and doing it). If someone can do that then I would of course be open to changing my mind. ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 19:21, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. Per the explanations by gidonb and Maltazarian. Much of the information here can be moved to a dedicated article on the Saudi-Emirati proxy conflict, while the rest of its focus on Turkey and Iran could probably just be deleted. Hsnkn (talk) 06:35, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
